POPSMatt Damon in 'Green Zone', Movie With Message About Iraq War "Bourne Goes to Iraq" or Loyal Army officer finds out truth and the real enemy which changes his mission against the "powers that be". Note in the clipmark from Wiki the producer intends this to be not merely entertainment but relevant commentary: "Film shouldn't be disenfranchised from the national conversation. It is never too soon for cinema to engage with events that shape our lives. Perhaps this is like Clooney and Damon in Syriana in that respect. Allegedly based upon this book here. , which has some real interesting "reviews" worth considering.

POPSBig Brother Monitoring Your Clipmarks, Blogs, Tweets "Visible", a very extensive and sophisticated CIA-based monitoring program is in effect watching online forums, blogs, twitters, and likely Clipmarks (where influential clips are easily tabulated). After all, it's all in the public domain, where whatever you post you must own. In-Q-Tel says it wants Visible to keep track of foreign social media, and give spooks “early-warning detection on how issues are playing internationally ,” spokesperson Donald Tighe tells Danger Room.

POPS"Architects of Ruin" throw out common sense and decades of experience in order to make loans that were almost certain to go unpaid. The effort was launched during the Carter administration but really gained momentum and a head of steam during the Clinton years. (GOPers shouldn't feel too smug as the Bush administration continued and even expanded the practice). "Architects of Ruin" can be advance-ordered now on Amazon.com. No doubt, it will generate a flood of negative reviews from liberals in the mainstream media and their allies in the political and academic worlds in part because of sensational tidbits like the fact White House Chief of Staff was paid "more than $46,000 an hour as a board member for Freddie Mac ." What caught my eye today, though, concerns a little known fact about a long-forgotten class-action lawsuit filed in 1994 by three young trial lawyers, one of whom just happens to be sitting in the Oval Office today as president.

POPSConservative Books On Top, But NYT Concludes Marx is “back in vogue”
Always count on the Fishwrap of Record to have its finger on the pulse of America! *** Via Christian Toto at Human Events: Marji Ross, president and publisher of Regnery Publishing, isn’t surprised by the newspaper’s stance against these like-minded books. “Very rarely do they review conservative books,” Ross says. “What they sometimes do is mention a book that is conservative on their “Inside the List” feature. It’s a way to defend themselves against the accusation they ignore these books.” The New York Times did see fit to print reviews of major liberal books from Michael Moore (Dude, Where’s My Country?), Eric Alterman (What Liberal Media?) and Al Franken (Lies and the Lying Liars Who Tell Them) but has yet to examine the aforementioned right-leaning bestsellers. Having one’s book reviewed in The New York Times meant something up until recently. “Traditionally, most publishers and authors are very eager to get in the New York Times to review their books," Ross say

POPSAre you unsure of your beliefs? You might be right. Find out! The literal interpretation of the Bible as word of God has originated most of the religious problems in modern civilization, and created many atheists. Atheists are right when they do not accept the God in some readings of the Bible, particularly of the Old Testament; I do not believe in that “god” either, but I believe in God! The real One recognized even by Gnostics and atheists. See the book.

POPSThe American Road to Fascism -- a synopsis of Chris Hedges' new book, Empire of Illusion" "Meanwhile, our government is being wrecked by corporations, which now receive 40% of federal discretionary spending. More than 800,000 jobs, once handled by government employees, have been outsourced to corporations, a move that has not only further empowered our shadow corporate government but also helped destroy federal workforce unions. Management of federal prisons, the management of regulatory and scientific reviews, the processing or denial of Freedom of Information requests, interrogating prisoners, and running the world's largest mercenary army in Iraq -- all this has become corporate. And these corporations, in a perverse arrangement, make their money directly off of the American citizen. This devil's deal is but an expansion of the corporate welfare enjoyed by the defense industry."

POPS"Wearing the Internet" more: MIT’s Media Lab has explored the idea of wearable computing for some time. “Wearable computing hopes to shatter this myth of how a computer should be used,” states the program’s web site, “A person’s computer should be worn, much as eyeglasses or clothing are worn, and interact with the user based on the context of the situation.” Pattie Maes of the lab’s Fluid Interfaces group goes one step further. As the leader of a team of seven graduate students that developed the system, she characterizes it as somewhat more than a wearable device — she refers to it as a digital “sixth sense.” No, she can’t see dead people. But, as a recent TED demo shows — sans keyboard or monitor — she literally has the Internet cloud on her arm (and her hands, and…).

POPS"The Universe In Your Head" more (at source): Other physicists, however, point out that Lanza's view is fully in line with the perspective from quantum mechanics that the observer plays a huge role in how reality is observed. "So what Lanza says in this book is not new," Richard Conn Henry, a physics and astronomy professor at Johns Hopkins University, said in a book review. "Then why does Robert have to say it at all? It is because we, the physicists, do not say it - or if we do say it, we only whisper it, and in private - furiously blushing as we mouth the words. True, yes; politically correct, hell no!"

POPSBooks About Columbine Two have been released in the last two weeks, "Columbine," and "Columbine: A True Crime Story," timed to coincide with the 10 year anniversary of the Colorado high school massacre. Janet Maslin reviews the former, with evident disdain for author Dave Cullen's self-promotional efforts. I get where she's coming from but it's hard to tell if the book is really bad or she's just appalled at his macabre media-chase.

POPSRay "Banana" Comfort Strikes Again World Nut Daily never fails to deliver. This advert penned by the pooh-bah of irrationality would be hilarious if it weren't for the fact that there are a lot of pig ignorant (apology to pigs!) sheep out there ready to believe whatever this champion of the scientifically illiterate spews forth.

POPSHow Oil and its Pricing is Manipulated, and by Whom This book is getting rave reviews even from oil investors. This author has documented just why oil prices do not move according to normal market factors (supply and demand) and why pricing seems like it must be manipulated...because it is! Radio interview on Coast to Coast Jan. 6th here . Look at this endorsement: His unique conclusions may be controversial, but they are certainly compelling. The Oil Card proves that oil and politics are closely linked.” –– Fadel Gheit ; Managing Director, Oil & Gas Research, Oppenheimer & Co.

POPSHollywood Blues: Upcoming Film About Chess Records Months ago I exclaimed, Beyonce as Etta James! OMG, self-conscious actress = disaster. Etta is one of my favorite singers, right up there with Big Mama Thornton, Aretha Franklin, and Billie Holiday. I wondered if Beyonce the actress, too concerned with image and "prettiness," could convey the toughness and soul of Etta. According to director Darnell Martin, Beyonce, "goes to that dark place," and "forgets who she is." I haven't read any reviews, except for this article which is enthusiastic. Hope it's in theaters when I get back to the States. http://www.sonypictures.com/movies/cadillacrecords/

POPSHate crimes
Parents across this country need to be pro-active in ferreting out, exposing, and challenging those public school educators who are increasingly bold in their willingness to use taxpayer-subsidized curricula to promote anti-Christian bigotry and discrimination. Don't assume this is a problem only in colleges and universities. Dawkins' God Delusion video has been shown even in high schools. The film and play versions of the wildly inaccurate, anti-Christian Inherit the Wind are routinely used in public schools. The blasphemous play Angels in America: A Gay Fantasia on National Themes is taught in high schools. Staying Fat for Sarah Byrnes, which is taught both in high schools and middle schools, depicts conservative Christians as, in the words of Kirkus Reviews, "humorless dupes or hypocrites." And the pro-gay, anti-Christian play The Laramie Project, based on the murder of Matthew Shepard, is routinely taught and performed at high schools around the country. One wonders how often the 2
