Hellas Basin
Rustee
by Rustee  Yesterday 12:53 AM    1
Mars may have been so cold that the lake was covered with ice. But it's possible that life gained a foothold beneath the ice. So Hellas Basin preserves not only a record of our solar system's violent past -- but also signs that, billions of years ago, the Red Planet was a friendlier place for life.

This is astounding. The sheer size of universe, measured in both space and time is simply impossible for me to comprehend. In trying to consider this, I can't help but feel all the more perplexed by the insanity of our world. Wars are fought and hatred persists because of religious beliefs that are based on historical events that supposedly happened over the past few thousand years - yet the Hubble Telescope looks back into space/time at galaxies that have been around for 13.2 billion years. I find these things impossible to reconcile.

What a mess this should be. They are spending billions on this. Wouldn't it be more sensible to put the money directly into universal health care rather than spending it to "police" citizens? But I guess that would not be beneficial to the insurance providers

What good health insurance if it will not PURCHASE CARE? You see dimwits, there is a big difference to HEALTH insurance and health care. MOST reputable insurers PAY doctors and hospitals for the care they provide. THE US GOVERNMENT does not. They cheat doctors and hospitals out of billions of dollars each and every year and call it a WELL RUN PROGRAM! To a freeloader this may sound great, after all they reason as long as I do not have to pay who cares. Well those of us stuck paying the bill care and to these Arizona Seniors I bet they care now too.

Here's what WON'T happen in 2010
clip-on-tie
by clip-on-tie  1-2-2010    3
Obama will stop blaming George W. Bush for his failures. Liberals will stop blaming George W. Bush for him failing to get them a date on eHarmony.com. After admitting that human behavior might not be causing global warming, Al Gore will get a real job. California will become a national model for state budgeting. The New Jersey Nets will waltz their way to an NBA championship. General Motors will become the world's most profitable carmaker. Despite Democrats' massive spending, taxes in America will fall. Huge new taxes to pay for ObamaCare will spur investors to pour billions into new businesses, igniting a wild economic boom overnight. Obama, America's first postpartisan president, will actually include Republican ideas in his agenda. The mainstream media will treat Sarah Palin fairly. and pundits will finally stop making stupid predictions.

OVER POPULATION. Can We Continue to Ignore It?
jerry23w
by jerry23w  2-2-2009    1
It is the achilles heel of democracy~ no one is likely to vote for a politician that might tell you how many children you can have, but if there are no leaders to tackle the problem then would we rather rely on natural causes to regulate the human population? Like so many things, the longer it is ignored the harder its going to be to deal with. I believe the problems of resource abuse and population could both be addressed by a willingness to realise when we have enough~ enough clothes, or enough cars, enough houses, or enough children. And then stop acquiring more. Some believe that if contraception was available to every woman, that alone would prevent the population from increasing, as the indigenous populations of developed countries are often found to be in decline. But that still requires the ability to say 'Enough' ~ is enough....

Blue State Governors Cry Foul Over Health Care Bill
merrie
by merrie  12-30-2009    1
“When asked for my support, I was assured that federal legislation would not increase costs to California or include new unfunded mandates,” Schwarzenegger wrote. “Unfortunately, under nearly every scenario we can predict, the federal health care reform legislation being debated would cost California’s General Fund an additional $3 billion to $4 billion annually.” ….. Arnold’s already looking for a bailout from Uncle Sam. They loved Porkulus, but it’s not going to help them now. The sad thing is, it’s doubtful either one of them has anything against government takeover of health care. They just don’t want it passed onto their state budgets.  And the more that *gets out* the more the "hardening" will increase. The bill is insane. FTA: "its provisions are making a difference to some people … mostly state governors looking at gigantic unfunded mandates via Medicaid. It isn’t red-state governors doing all of the objecting...". "New York Democratic Gov. David Paterson and California GOP Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger are urging congressional leaders to rework the Medicaid financing in the Senate-passed bill, warning that under that version their states will be crushed by billions in new costs."

We'd be better off being illegal immigrants in our own country, the benefits out weigh the negatives. Actually it is getting to where there is no down side to being an illegal here anymore. May as well dissolve the INS, Border Patrol, Customs, think of all that money liberals could waste on their 'worthwhile' programs.

Yet another article outlining how the largest investment banks - particularly Goldman Sachs - manipulated the market for their own benefit. What really irks me more than anything is that after betting against the very products they were selling to their clients, they got a MASSIVE government bailout while some of their top competitors got wiped out. To say the game is rigged is the understatement of the year.

Obama's Latest Health Care Lie
merrie
by merrie  12-22-2009    2
..... that every American should read before listening to a word the president says, the CBO is bound in its "scoring" to take at face value what every living politician"Obama included"knows to be a stinking lie. That is, Congress' promises to make hundreds of billions of dollars worth of unspecified future spending "cuts." From the article: s the health care debate has progressed throughout the year, Congressional Democrats have become far more adept at getting the CBO to count the beans just the way they want. Indeed, they have become so skilled at getting what they want out of the CBO that the office has taken to including strongly worded warnings that the various bills' real costs may not actually match their estimates. Analysts at the CBO are not blind to this, but they must score bills as if what is written is what will happen. However, they are not prohibited from issuing strong warnings about what might happen if the legislative reality they assumed ...

Reid Prepares to Sneak Vote Thru at 1:00 A.M. MONDAY MORNING!
merrie
by merrie  12-20-2009    2
Harry Reid has now introduced what is called his managers amendment — the secret deal that will serve as a substitute for the decoy that was the 2,074-page bill the Senate has been debating for the past three weeks. So is this bill any better? NO IT STINKS: The bill slashes hundreds of billions from Medicare to fund a new government program – cuts to hospitals, nursing homes, and hospices that care for our seniors cuts that a pair of Senate Democrats voted repeatedly to reject. The bill includes massive tax increases on American families and businesses at a time of double digit unemployment. The bill includes a massive new entitlement -the CLASS Act – which the Democrat chairman of the Budget Committee described as a Ponzi scheme. A bipartisan majority (including 11 Democrats) voted to strike the CLASS Act — and they should withhold their support.

Obama's Legacy
merrie
by merrie  12-17-2009    1
That far exceeds what's needed to turn on the lights, but it's also beyond what's needed for a basic nuclear weapons program. Consider North Korea, which manufactured two limited yield nuclear weapons using only a plutonium reactor, a plutonium reprocessing facility, and -- presumably -- some sort of weapons laboratory. Why is Iran pumping billions more into building and protecting triple the number of facilities required to build a basic nuclear weapon, akin to the Fat Man or Little Boy bombs detonated in 1945? The answer could be that Tehran is skipping basic weapons construction and moving towards an advanced thermonuclear design. Consider that they've already experimented with advanced weapons designs like two-point implosion, nuclear triggers, and have built their own facility at Arak that could be used to produce both tritium, which is a suspected boosting agent in hydrogen bomb designs, as well as weapons-grade plutonium.

HOUSE OF FOOLS Get Out And Vote
Normn8or
by Normn8or  12-14-2009
The European Union has an unelected President. The Security Counsel of the United Nations was not elected. Climate Change leaders are not elected, not democratic, not basing their decisions of science. Ponder for a moment. Why do they want your money if they can't save the world. ALL IS VANITY. Climate Change taxes are fraudulent. Don't give them your money unless they can save the world (which they can't). I believe that Kyoto was designed to keep the whole continent of Africa in a state of servitude because it thwarts it's development.
