Palin and those conservative women who aspire to be like her love living in ignorance. They have been eating, sleeping, and working in pollution so long that they not only believe that is just the way the air is, but they advocate the air is not polluted and actually good for you. They buy into that twisted kind of logic because their survival and identity depends upon it. The stress of having to pretend to be innately superior at all times and buy into this belief system is more than the human organism can tolerate so they become angry, hateful, intolerant wanna be bullies who aspire to have a Sarah Palin book under their Christmas tree. To challenge them or doubt them is akin to heresy. Too bad they are buying into the myth that states there is only one reality because it limits the search in seeking any understanding for other human beings. Sad and pathetic.

The Adam Lambert Problem
clip-on-tie
by clip-on-tie  12-18-2009    17
When it comes to Adam Lambert, gay organizations should either ignore the guy or criticize him for helping foster the image that gay people are obsessed with sex and flaunting that in the public square. While many gay and lesbian singers, actors and talk show hostesses live their lives openly, they leave the sexual aspect of their lives where it belongs: behind closed doors. After Lambert’s recent stunt at the American Music Awards, he has certainly extended his fifteen minutes. I don't act like that and none of my gay friends act like that. Lambert is an idiot. He does nothing to improve the image of gay people. Neil Patrick Harris and Ellen De Generes he surely is not.

Anti-Islamic bigotry that goes far beyond simply criticizing radical Islam, into support for fascism, violence, and genocide (see: Pamela Geller, Robert Spencer, etc.) Hatred for President Obama that goes far beyond simply criticizing his policies, into racism, hate speech, and bizarre conspiracy theories (see: witch doctor pictures, tea parties, Birthers, Michelle Malkin, Fox News, World Net Daily, Newsmax, and every other right wing source) And much, much more. The American right wing has gone off the rails, into the bushes, and off the cliff. I won’t be going over the cliff with them.

Bigotry Sanctioned by Religion
AtlLiberal
by AtlLiberal  12-8-2009    6
The question is one of privilege over bigotry. Should certain Christian sects be allowed to discriminate against people because of their sexual orientation? The theists claim they are simply following their holy book which they contend makes the practice of prejudice and bigotry against gays and lesbians legitimate. They cling to their repeatedly refuted dogma that the "homosexual lifestyle" is something voluntary. Their argument? The Bible says it's so. This anti-reality viewpoint is not confined to sexual orientation. It is seen in a general anti-intellectualism and distrust of science. No wonder that a growing segment of the public are beginning to see through this and respond accordingly.

But the show is rated for "Mature Audiences Only." Shows with such ratings may have content "unsuitable for children under 17. The annual kick-a-ginger event has brought angry criticism from people who feel the show's producers should have known better. A judge in Calgary, Canada, where 13 high school students swarmed a red-haired boy in a locker room, called the show "a vulgar, socially irreverent program that contributes nothing to society. When you show hateful adversarial behavior or even concepts, the effect may be most pronounced with those who have the least resilience against it."

Exposing the Colour of Prejudice
sahara
by sahara  10-25-2009
John Howard Griffin was a remarkable man. As a Texan teenager who found himself in France at the outbreak of World War II, he helped to smuggle Jewish children to safety and freedom. He then served with distinction in the US Air Force in the Pacific. And then, after the war - when illness struck him blind for 10 years while he was still relatively young - he became a prolific writer. It was after his sight returned that he hit upon the idea of Black Like Me, the work which is his most important legacy. The whole business of racial impersonation might make us feel vaguely uncomfortable now, but in 1959 a black writer simply could not have found an audience for such a graphic portrayal of African-American grievance. Griffin's grim adventures as a black man in a white man's world are worth reading. They remain a set text for many American high school children.

We stand now as a mainstream Party, offering the opportunity of quality multicultural unfairness to all Britain's morons. As part of the move the BNP's Constitution is to be reviewed to bring it more in line with the teachings of radical Islam. References to 'ragheads' and other potentially Islamic slights are to be removed, with greater emphasis placed instead on the disempowerment of woman. However, both men said they were in agreement that any bits about being Jewish could stay in place. Reports that the cleric intends to stand for Parliament remain unconfirmed.

Sure, the last Beer Summit was an empty political gesture, something Obama was forced into after he stepped in it.* This one could actually be meaningful, if everyone behaves, sincerely tries to become a better person … which is asking a lot, I know. Likelihood of it happening? Zip. But maybe the White House Press Corps, which initiated the last Beer Summit, could try to prompt this one. By asking the president about it, like they did last time. Checking Google news, not seeing that has happened. * Boston Herald, take a bow. Fired the twin rockets of Sgt. Crowley’s distinctly unracist past and his position as a police academy racial profiling instructor that blew up that race thing in Gates’ and Obama’s faces. I remember watching Gates on CNN that afternoon, and the president at his press conference that night, thinking, “Have a good time, guys. GOP House members call for investigation of Muslim political activity
ratilfar
by ratilfar  10-16-2009    1
Just to underscore how extremist the House GOP caucus is, this hysteria is all based on a new book entitled "Muslim Mafia: Inside the Secret Underworld That's Conspiring to Islamize America." That's the source which these House members are using. In fact, one of the GOP House members, Rep. Sue Myrick of North Carolina, wrote the foreword to the book. One of the two authors of that book, Dave Gaubatz, maintains this website, where he's hawking the book through Paypal. In 2006, Gaubatz created a project called "Mapping Sharia in America", the purpose of which was to create a comprehensive map of every mosque and Islamic school in the U.S. This is what he wrote: It is our task to conduct an extensive mapping of all the Islamic day schools, mosques, and other identifiable organizations in the US and to determine which ones teach or preach Islamic law, Sharib.

I went back and re-read what I had written. And I listened for far too long to the right wing hate machine who did what they could to crap all over Barack's big day. Did I -- and others on the left -- do the same? We are weary, weary of war. Obama is moving too slow for most of us -- but he needs to know we are with him and we stand beside him as he attempts to turn eight years of sheer madness around. Who could do that in nine months? Superman? Thor? Mitch McConnell? Instead of waiting to see what the president is going to do, we all need to be pro-active and push the agenda that we want to see enacted. on't abandon the best hope we've had in our lifetime for change. Now for the tasks ahead. We need you to do all that you promised to do. We need it. The world needs it. Fred (that's Norwegian for "Peace") ---- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-O7PnvVgQvA

Thankfully, we have a constitution that guarantees equal protection -- or at least it says that.

Interracial couple denied marriage license in Louisiana

More: If he did an interracial marriage for one couple, he must do the same for all, he said. "I try to treat everyone equally," he said. Bardwell estimates that he has refused to marry about four couples during his career, all in the past 2 1/2 years.… "It is really astonishing and disappointing to see this come up in 2009," said American Civil Liberties Union of Louisiana attorney Katie Schwartzmann. "The Supreme Court ruled as far back as 1963 that the government cannot tell people who they can and cannot marry." The ACLU sent a letter to the Louisiana Judiciary Committee, which oversees the state justices of the peace, asking them to investigate Bardwell and recommending "the most severe sanctions available, because such blatant bigotry poses a substantial threat of serious harm to the administration of justice." "He knew he was breaking the law, but continued to do it," Schwartzmann said.

I thought Michael Moore's letter to President Obama was a bit harsh but then again it also hit the proverbial nail on the head. I'm proud of Pres. Obama but he's only human and therefore fallible. I don't believe (lucky for us) his admin. is as reckless as the Bush/Cheney one was. They cared nothing for people, nothing for the WORLD, only their pipe-dreams of total power were important to them. They were almost non-human. Thank goodness they are no longer in power. I can't imagine what else they would have done to ruin America. Sadly there are some of their ruthless followers carrying-on where they left off. (Beck & Limbaugh) but without power they are neutered and just don't have the BITE their mentors had! Thanks Michael for printing on your site, michaelmoore.com a retraction of sorts about what you think of our President winning the Nobel Peace Prize. I know the Republicans stick together more than we but that's their sin, not blessing. They can't change their minds but we can!

More choice comments re: Dick Cheney's impending grandchild: -I respect Dick Cheney, but I don't understand why he is allowing his daughter to take innocent children into her lesbianic home. Can anyone claim that these kids won't be scarred for life? So sad. -Also repugnant, IMNSHO, is the use of "they are expecting a child" when, for obvious reasons "they" could not POSSIBLY have conceived. -As much as I don't like it, God will have to sort this out in the end. -she’s an emancipated adult. Mary Cheney is poorly exercising her free will which she will have to answer for one day. -This should be made a criminal act- it is selfish and does emotional violence to the child. - hese homosexual couples have to use a whole series of bizarre test tube procedures in order to obtain their human play toy. There is nothing natural or loving about it. Ah, the smell of bigotry in the morning. After the death of the Rep. party, this is what history will remember.

May she come to understand the difference between cost and value. All things cost. All people have value.… I hope that we who welcome Sadie into our lives…May we teach her the breadth of the word family. May we let her learn early to feel secure in the fact that she is loved, she is valued and she is wanted. May one day, when she is 30 and tired, when she is at the end of her rope, may she discover that our hands have weaved her an extra foot or two. That we have stored up enough love, packed into every corner of her heart, she never need fear of running out. May we give her the foundation of knowing love. From this beginning, may Sadie, first crawl, then walk, then run, finally fly ...

The last untouchable in Europe

More: On occasions, the bigotry was brutally enforced: in the early 18th century a prosperous Cagot in the Landes was caught using the font reserved for non-Cagots – his hand was chopped off and nailed to the church door. Another Cagot who dared to farm his fields (strictly verboten) had his feet pierced with hot iron spikes.… Even in death, the discrimination persisted – the Cagots were buried in their own humble cemeteries; there is still one in Bentayou-Sérée, a tiny village north of Pau.… I ask Marie-Pierre if she will let me use a picture of Sylvia – and the rest of her children. She shakes her head. "I'm sorry but no. It is OK for me to admit where I come from. But if people knew about my children's background, it might be difficult for them." She gazes out of the window, at the distant green Pyrenees. "In some places, the hatred lingers. Even now. The Cagots may be silent but I can still hear it."

More: If you think you should use a word because no other has the same impact, well, you’re right about the impact. Your usage has such an impact because it draws its power from disability=bad. You are forming a powerful sentence from disablism, our deep-set pain. It’s so much easier and better to just change your words. If you still insist on such usage, that’s lazy and cruel. If you’re not sure if your use of a word is offensive, err on the side of caution. Another message to take away is this. 1. If you are calling yourself progressive 2. and you are harming people with disabilities 3. you are not, in fact, progressive.

It's not talked about (except Carter's comment). But it needs to be. Bring it out in the open and shout it from the mountaintops. Racism is alive and well, albeit below the surface for the most part. But it is acting like the driving force. The hidden engine, if you will, of the hate and shouting emanating from the Right these days. The message from these KKK wannabees is clear. The President is not one of us. He is to be feared. He's not fit for the job. It has nothing to do with facts. The people protesting, for the most part, are angry because a black man is their leader and they just can't wrap their small minds around that. The continuance of this hate and bigotry makes me profoundly sad and worried for our country.

Charles Darwin film ‘too controversial for religious America’

Afraid of controversy? This country has been mired in controvery for ages. Movieguide.org is the source of the controversy in this instance. Describing Darwin as "a racist, a bigot and an1800s naturalist whose legacy is mass murder" only proves their own bigotry and intolerance for any belief not their own. To say Darwin’s theory is ‘half-baked’ when supported by insurmountable scientifically backed evidence while only ‘faith’ backs up their belief is pure religious zealotry. To condemn Darwin’s theory as ‘half-baked’ while zealously clinging to faith without scientific proof is amazingly short-sighted. I am not condemning believers, I am a believer myself, but to ridicule another person’s belief because it is different is hateful, extremely narrow-minded and very un-Christian.
