How do we - and to what extent should we - get bicyclists to obey traffic laws?
Lexica
by Lexica  12-3-2009
More: Enter the Idaho stop-sign law. The rule, passed by the Idaho state legislature in 1982 and updated in 2005, essentially allows bikers to treat stop signs as yield signs. If a biker slows down and sees no cars coming, he or she can roll through a stop sign—a so-called "rolling stop." The "Idaho stop" has become a rallying point for vehicularists and facilitators alike—a sort of Great Compromise for bicycles.… Skeptics say that the rule would lead to more crashes. But a follow-up study of the Idaho statute found that accidents involving bikes actually decreased the year after the law was passed and haven't varied much since.

Ian Walker: Why I hate pedestrians
Lexica
by Lexica  11-16-2009    8
More: And recently…it's got worse. As I'm driving up the street I constantly come across pedestrians walking across my part of the road to get from one of these pavements to another. I mean, what the hell...? They've been given vast tracts of pedestrian-only routes, where I'm certainly not allowed to drive, but apparently this isn't enough for them . Oh no, they want to keep encroaching into my space as well. Sure, we've all heard these walking zealots who say that it's because the 'pavements' don't form a joined-up network, meaning they can't walk to where they want to go without having to step onto the road from time to time. Aw, bless their little hearts. To pedestrians I say this: get off my part of the road. If you walk there when I'm coming along then I'll happily run you down , that's all.

Sound cannons, tear gas, stun grenades used on peaceful demonstrators! One thing's clear the ruling class will stop at nothing to protect and advance their interests, as students at Kent State University found out in 1970. The US, UK and Australia are becoming more and more like a police state.

I like this one. It weighs less than I do, not counting the bike. The only thing that scares me is the Iron Lung look. I want my head inside with the rest of me. Maybe he cut that hole as an after thought that some people are longer than 5'6". Still a nice idea though.

Fake hate crime alert: Leftists vandalize Denver Democrat HQ;
merrie
by merrie  8-26-2009    4
Dems smeared Obamacare foes By Michelle Malkin • August 25, 2009 Meet the hoaxer: A 24-year-old arrested this morning on suspicion of smashing 11 windows at Colorado Democratic Party headquarters tried to conceal his identity while allegedly committing the crime, according to police descriptions. Maurice Schwenkler wore a shirt over his face, a hooded sweat shirt and latex gloves before he and another man fled the scene on bicycles, police said. Schwenkler was apprehended after a short chase. The other suspect remains at large. While Schwenkler does not appear in the state’s voter registration database, a person by that name in November 2008 received $500 from a political 527 committee called Colorado Citizens Coalition for “communications,” according to campaign finance disclosures. The accountant for the 527 appears to be the same woman who handles the books for many other Democratic-leaning political committees.

In the northern Philippines, the typhoon and lingering monsoon rains left 21 people dead and seven others missing in landslides and floodwaters. Xinhua said three fishermen died and 26 others were missing from Tropical Storm Goni, which hit Guangdong on Wednesday but weakened into a tropical depression by Sunday. Helicopters and ships were searching for the missing crew.

Some Advice on Biking to Work
speerclan
by speerclan  8-4-2009
These are some pretty good comments about commuters and biking to work. I would agree with most of these. I would also hope you are able to have a shower at work once you get there. OR, at least give yourself about 15 minutes to sit and cool off before you start your shift. And Christy has suggested have some alcohol wipes to clean your body. The alcohol acts as a coolant as it evaporates on your skin, and the wipes will help you clean up - in case you get a bit 'ripe' from the ride. This article is definitely a good read.

Banned in Alabama

This is kinda hard to believe that they would ban this fine bottle of wine! The wine's label is copied from an 1895 French advertising poster for Cycles Gladiator bicycles. It shows a side view of a full-bodied nymph flying alongside a winged bicycle.
