POPSWhile terrorists plot, the FAA parties I saw some undercover clips of the partying on Fox and heard this story. This all says a lot about the current culture and seriousness in the minds of those who are paid (nicely) to see that our citizens are safe while they fly in our skies. Forget the parties, the bonuses for CEOs and "managers"; instead let's pay the scanners, the mechanics, and builders of our planes what they're really worth.

POPSChimpanzees Dancing with Fire When it comes to understanding fire, chimpanzees might have a leg up not only on the rest of the animal kingdom, but also on those of us in the human species who would sprint in the other direction at the sight of a blaze. A study published in the American Journal of Physical Anthropology argues that these primates don’t panic when the flames start, and could even understand the basics about how fire behaves.

POPSSelling Their Souls For Fun And Profit Gay Republicans are like any other Republicans, particularly those mean spirited souls seeking a substitute for a relationship with a heterosexual male that find safety in the twisted kind of intimacy of the denial of personal responsibility their party preaches. They can deny it all they like and they can use their gay friends as distractions but their strain of Republicanism has never been about betraying their principals, but acting on them, such as the concentration of wealth and power in fewer hands, the nation's political polarization, and the disrespect for the system of checks and balances on which our democracy is built. Those are the GOP GOALS.

POPS2010 could be warmest year on record (1) Nobody talks about consciousnes change leading to a new way of understanding what wealth means beyond the very basics of survival. If everyone just did everything they could to assist in the grand project of helping to heal nature which (some) people have harmed so grievously, then there may be a chance. All real wealth is co-owned and co-created by all life and the planet for the mutual benefit of all the stakeholders, both human and non-human. What is required is no more (and no less) than to redefine the purpose of life.

POPSEl Centro Holds Position for Highest Jobless Rate To outlast the economic crisis, Duggins Construction has adapted its business from a new commercial construction focus to include remodels and renovations. But until banks loosen their grips and start lending again, Duggins said business won't return to normal. "Lenders have gone from one extreme to another. Before, you could get a loan with just a signature. Now we joke that if you want a $500,000 loan, you better have $500,000 sitting in the bank," he said. "Banks just need to go back to how they were doing business in the late 1970s and 1980s, where they are lending so that people can put that money back into the economy and get it going." POPSLee Sandlin: Losing the War Quite long – click through for the full essay. More: I figured people had to know the basics -- World War II isn't exactly easy to miss. It was the largest war ever fought, the largest single event in history. Other than the black death of the Middle Ages, it's the worst thing we know of that has ever happened to the human race. Its aftereffects surround us in countless intertwining ways… So what did the people I asked know about the war? Nobody could tell me the first thing about it. Once they got past who won they almost drew a blank. All they knew were those big totemic names -- Pearl Harbor, D day, Auschwitz, Hiroshima -- whose unfathomable reaches of experience had been boiled down to an abstract atrocity. The rest was gone… I think what my little survey really demonstrates is how vast the gap is between the experience of war and the experience of peace.

POPSPublic Health Plan Covers FEW
"The public option is a significant issue, but its place in the debate is completely out of proportion to its actual importance to consumers," said Drew Altman, president of the nonpartisan Kaiser Family Foundation. "It has sucked all the oxygen out of the room and diverted attention from bread-and-butter consumer issues, such as affordable coverage and comprehensive benefits." The Democratic health care bills would extend coverage to the uninsured by providing government help with premiums and prohibiting insurers from excluding people in poor health or charging them more. But to keep from piling more on the federal deficit, most of the uninsured will have to wait until 2013 for help. Even then, many will have to pay a significant share of their own health care costs. The latest look at the public option comes from the Congressional Budget Office, the nonpartisan economic analysts for lawmakers. It found that the scaled back government plan in the House bill wouldn't overtake

POPSAbout half of U.S. mortgages seen underwater by 2011 Housing has been crazy here too. Prices all over the shop but rising despite all that is happening. Banks still milking home loans to the max. We did it on one income and 2 kids. Now they can't with 2 incomes and both kids in childcare. Don't think we had as much to spend though. And the house wasn't real flash, a home though.

POPSPoi Spinning - Fun and a great way to keep fit.
I have a training (soft foam) set of these and even with those after about 10 mins start you to really "feel the burn" as it were. I think it originated in New Zealand but I'm not entirely sure. The exercise itself is more geared towards natural toning on the body and a slightly more physical workout on the arms but nothing too heavy on the muscle building side so it is ok for women to do if they are not looking to have bulging muscles. The more you practice the longer you are able to go for and there are some really fun and complex manoeuvres you can learn through some websites and DVD's but picking up the basics can be done in a matter of minutes After seeing this video I think I am going to have to get myself a pair of LED Poi now :-) as I always wanted to attempt the Fire Poi but... that is a big step when you are used to soft foam. The Fire Poi are on chains ended with a steel rod which is wrapped in Kevlar, which is then dipped in liquid paraffin left to soak and lit.

POPSTroubled Alaska health programs face federal restriction
The programs at issue provide in-home help for thousands of Alaskans with the basics of life, from medication to meals. The goal is to help people stay in their own homes rather than go into nursing homes or other institutions. "Rather than continue to let the state admit more and more people into what we believe has been a poorly managed system, we just said hold the phone, we're going to try to find other ways to serve these people, and we're going to stop enrollment in this program because we are quite concerned." Said Mary Kahn, a spokeswoman for the federal Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services. Eight lawsuits have been filed against the state The common thread in the suits is that seniors and disabled Alaskans aren't getting the services they are entitled to, under the law. In one big win, the state Supreme Court ruled last year that the state had improperly cut off or reduced services to more than 1,000 needy people. Apparently, Sarah knows about death panels.
