Bank boss says 'we do God's work'
tabsey
by tabsey  11-8-2009    2
Another example of religion being used to justify a position. I think it belittles religion and the religious. The misuse of religion gives an insight into the way they handle taking someone's last cents, before sending them to jail for not being rich. They would also believe that there is a special place in the afterlife for them and it is all good. They don't believe in suffering now to achieve glory in the next life (Mother Theresa and those types can have all of that - and a small donation - will suffice) The bonuses will be awarded to compensate workers for having to listen to people who seemed to have morals, over the last couple of years; and a reward for adjusting to honesty until the smoke cleared.

Bank can't prove it owns the mortgage, Judge writes off $460k debt
Spiritualmonkey
by Spiritualmonkey  10-29-2009
This is why Rep. Kaptur was telling people facing eviction to squat in their own homes , refuse to be evicted, and make the bank demonstrate in court that the debt is legitimate . Possession is 9/10 of the law. I predict that this is the first tremble of a massive shock-wave about to move through our economy.

Hillary Clinton: US Wants Israel To Stop Building West Bank Settlements 'Forever'
ratilfar
by ratilfar  11-5-2009    4
But Clinton has had to do a lot of explaining since last Saturday, when she stood with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in Jerusalem and praised his offer to limit settlement construction without halting it. Clinton has since tried to clarify the remarks, saying that the Israeli offer does not got far enough. Still, she has indicated that the Palestinians should resume negotiations with Israel without a full settlement halt as they demand.

Banks Do Not Make Good Neighbors
sahara
by sahara  10-26-2009
Ross Wallace, a lieutenant in the U.S. Army, turned in his check for $500 and waited on the auction floor in full dress uniform for a chance to buy a Detroit house on the cheap. Wallace, 27, said he did not want to leave his fiancee and two children with a mortgage before shipping out to Iraq later this year. “I still have student loans and I’m trying to be responsible. I don’t want to leave debt,” he said. Wallace waited for the auction to roll around to Detroit’s Boston-Edison district, a once stately area that was home to boxing legend Joe Louis and Motown founder Berry Gordy. But he was quickly outbid. An unidentified investor at the front of the room who had scooped up several dozen properties took the home Wallace wanted for about $15,000. “Why am I competing against a bank?” he said later. “It would be common sense to have a separate process for people who want to move back to the city or it’s going to stay empty.”

You're Not Going To Believe This One.
thinkingblue

Just when you think the Banks can’t possibly do more to hurt us... They come out with a lalapalooza... They are now going to charge their credit card customers for... hold on to your proverbial hats... INACTIVITY! I heard this on CNN this morning and I couldn't believe it. Bank of America, yup the ones who received $25 billion from the government's $700 billion financial rescue fund, including $10 billion that would have gone to Merrill had it not been acquired by good old Bank of America. Now, instead of just gouging those who are in debt and over a barrel they are targeting people who have enough income and only use credit cards, as a convenience. The question is, are these financially better off consumers going to take it? Or Are they going to (like the rest of us) GET MAD AS HELL AND NOT GONNA TAKE IT NO MO? I hope they will be strong enough, in numbers, to put these greedy banks in their place… If not there is NO JUSTICE! HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Krugman Sounds The Alarm On Banks - Again.
ratilfar
by ratilfar  10-19-2009
So who was this thundering bank critic? None other than Lawrence Summers, the Obama administration’s chief economist — and one of the architects of the administration’s bank policy, which up until now has been to go easy on financial institutions and hope that they mend themselves. Why the change in tone? Administration officials are furious at the way the financial industry, just months after receiving a gigantic taxpayer bailout, is lobbying fiercely against serious reform. But you have to wonder what they expected to happen. They followed a softly, softly policy, providing aid with few strings, back when all of Wall Street was on the ropes; this left them with very little leverage over firms like Goldman that are now, once again, making a lot of money. But there’s an even bigger problem: while the wheeler-dealer side of the financial industry, a k a trading operations, is highly profitable again, the part of banking that really matters — lending, which fuels investment and job
