POPSOn Elvis Presley's birthday, impersonators say there will never be another King On January 8, 1935, Elvis Aaron Presley was born to Vernon Elvis and Gladys Love Presley in Tupelo, Mississippi. It was just a half hour before his identical twin, Jesse Garon Presley, was delivered stillborn, and Elvis, an only child, was the apple of his parents' eye. They were a poor family, and it was church where Presley found his first musical inspirations. Happy 75th Birthday, Elvis Presley (January 8, 1935 – August 16, 1977)

POPSAdvanced-level tips for the best ever no-knead bread More: The crust…is where the no-knead method kicks unequivocal butt for the home baker. Artisanal loaves have a thin, crisp crust that is difficult to duplicate in a home oven. Home “sandwich loaves” and the like will turn brown on top, but the crust is just a lifeless dry area at the edge of the loaf… In a commercial oven, the necessary moisture comes from injectors that flood the oven with steam when the loaves are put in…The Sullivan/Bittman no-knead recipe, however, uses the genius innovation of baking the bread in a pre-heated Dutch oven (a heavy, oven-safe, lidded pot). The lid is placed on the pot for the first 30 minutes of baking, so steam from the wet dough is trapped in close proximity to the surface. The result is perfect gelation and a very professional-looking crust. Definitely going to try this tip the next time I make a batch of bread . Speaking of which...

POPSSome Tough Questions About Islam and Jihadists Our enemy uses Islam as a mask and he needs us to help him drive nonpoliticized Muslims into his camp. It is the essential element of his strategy. He cannot succeed without accomplishing this feat—and he cannot accomplish this goal without our help. Consider the Machiavellian tactics of tyrants throughout human history. Repeatedly they conjure a “common (external) enemy” and an existential vision, binding the masses to them. Read, for example, Eric Hoffer’s “The True Believer, Thoughts on the Nature of Mass Movements.” Our enemy is trying to create and sustain a mass movement. If he fails in this regard, he fails completely. Patrick A. Toffler Col. (Ret.) U.S. Army Hewitt, N.J. Mr. Gerecht astutely points out that President Barack Obama has missed a critical opportunity to militate against holy warriors in our midst. But he fails to connect the dots on a larger trend: American reluctance to admit that we are at war.

POPSAmerica’s #1 Export This satisfies White House strategists, who seek a way out of a growing political impasse, and also the economic gurus at Obama’s ear, who believe government spending can create new jobs and kick-start the economy. These economic geniuses are the latter-day followers of John Maynard Keynes, an economist who believed we could end unemployment and fight our way out of economic malaise by having the government hire workers to dig ditches and then fill them back up again. They didn’t necessarily have to produce anything of value, as long as they went through the motions. All government has to do is "prime the pump," and this will set in motion a process ending in full employment. You can build hospitals or pyramids, it doesn’t matter; military spending will do. In this scenario, we are back to when James Baker was asked to justify the first Gulf war, and he replied, "Jobs, jobs, jobs." What better (economic) stimulus than a foreign policy of perpetual war?

POPSRichard Tisei, Openly Gay Republican, Picked As GOP Gubernatorial Candidate's ...
This doesn't surprise me in the least. Sometimes, when I talk to gay activists or “politically aware” gay people who support the various left-leaning national gay organizations about the Republican Party, they act as if the party was dedicated to the proposition that anti-gay attitudes are integral to the GOP. Yet, if they would spend the amount of time they spend decrying and moaning about the GOP on learning about the history of American conservatism, they might realize that the real animating principle of their movement is freedom. Homosexuality is, at most, incidental to conservative ideology–and we gay conservatives have long been working to make it a non-issue. Some may say, “Well, you support the GOP and Republicans are no better, perhaps even worse. And I’ll reply, yep, you’ve got a point, they aren't perfect, but the GOP doesn't treat our community like a cash cow, milking it when they need funds and hiding it in the barn when they fear it might offend the neighbors.

POPSABC's Johnson Recites Canard Lack of Health Insurance Kills 45,000 Annually
Trying to boost the rationale for ObamaCare, Thursday's CBS Evening News ran two stories from far-left sources, but the network disguised the agenda behind both. Katie Couric announced that "while the debate goes on over the cost of insuring everyone, a new study reveals the cost of not doing it. The Harvard study says nearly 45,000 American deaths every year are linked to a lack of insurance. "Neither she, nor reporter Jim Axelrod, noted that the report was really produced by Physicians for a National Health Program, "the only national physician organization in the United States dedicated exclusively to implementing a single-payer national health program." ....with the numbers on screen credited to "Harvard Medical School" and Dr. Steffie Woolhandler identified on screen as with "Harvard Medical School," Axelrod reported Woolhandler "was part of a team that tracked more than 9,000 people for up to 13 years, comparing the health of those with insurance to those without ...
