POPSObama's Misleading, Confusing Abortion Rights Ads Obama’s new radio ad tells voters McCain “will make abortion illegal” is airing widely in at least seven swing states. Kate Michelman, an informal Obama adviser who is the former president of the abortion-rights group NARAL Pro-Choice America, said she expected the campaign to expand its appeal to women on issues of abortion rights. “This is a door opened to a longer campaign and strategic effort to ensure that women know the truth about John McCain and Gov. Palin,” she said, suggesting it would come “on the radio, in the mail, on the phones, and in the organizing on the ground.” Though the campaign says the ad was released before Palin was chosen, Michelman said her selection, and her strong anti-abortion stance, would drive the issue closer to the center of the race. “By his nomination of Gov. Palin, McCain has made his opposition to a woman’s right to decide a major campaign issue,” she said.

POPSGov. Palin Slashed Funds for Unwed Teenage Mothers I really can't understand how a governor could slash funds for teenage unwed mothers unless increasing their hardship is supposed to teach those sinners a lesson. I believe that is about the correct righteous tone that masquerades for apathy and stinginess in "fiscally prudent" circles these days. Of course, if one wants to get really biblical about the matter, one could always consider the significance of "Whatever someone sows that also he reaps" if you get my meaning.

POPSWomen Power- Educated Women and Babies It has been proven for a long time that women who are educated and in control of their lives will not have as many children as their un-educated counterparts. Give women control of their economics and the effect is startling.

POPSObama's "Carefully Nuanced Refinements" Obama could have picked Hillary Clinton, who received 18,000,000 votes. (He would have done so, by the way, without sacrificing his desire to have a Vice President with strong national security and foreign policy credentials on the ticket.) That works out to 2,000 votes for Clinton for every one vote Senator Biden got.

POPSMother Dog Rescues Abandoned Baby, Saves Baby Girls Life! A DOG has touched the hearts of Argentines by saving the life of an abandoned baby girl, placing her safely alongside her puppies. The country's media are calling her "the miracle baby". She was born prematurely to a girl, 14, in a shanty town outside Buenos Aires. The Argentine media has descended on the shanty town, talking of "the Argentine Romulus and Remus", the founders of Rome abandoned as babies and rescued by a wolf almost 3000 years ago. La China, worried about her puppies, is reported to be petrified by her new-found fame, and her owner said he was worried she was not eating.

POPSStrange Laws In Phoenix, Arizona, you can't walk through a hotel lobby with spurs on. In California, a law created in 1925 makes it illegal to wiggle while dancing. In Utah, daylight must be visible between dancing couples. In Michigan, it is against the law for a lady to lift her skirt more than 6 inches while walking through a mud puddle. In North Carolina, it is against the law for a rabbit to race down the street. In Georgia, it's against the law to spread a false rumor. In West Virginia, one can't cook sauerkraut or cabbage due to the odors and the offence is subject to imprisonment. In Missouri, a man must have a permit to shave. The law states that more than 3000 sheep cannot be herded down Hollywood Blvd. at any one time. In Texas, it is still a "hanging offense" to steal cattle. In Virginia, the Code of 1930 has a statute which prohibits corrupt practices or bribery by any person other than political candidates.

POPSThe Fall of Great Cities: America's Fastest-Dying Cities
The former manufacturing backbone of the U.S. is in rougher shape than ever, still searching for some way to replace its long-stilled smokestacks. Where's it worst? Ohio has 4 of the 10 cities and Michigan has 2 cities making the ranking. So far this decade, 115,000 people have left Cleveland. Smaller changes in other regions can be just as painful: People are leaving in the thousands and they are not being replaced by either new babies or new immigrants. These cities face fleeing populations, painful waves of unemployment and barely growing economies... And they face even bleaker futures. Once great centers of business and industry, these cities now are shells of their former selves. They will have to re-shape their image & think outside of the box in order to try to attract future residents and businesses. The top 5 fastest dying American cities: 1. Canton, Ohio 2. Youngstown, Ohio 3. Flint, Mich. 4. Scranton, Pa. 5. Dayton, Ohio

POPSDo You Love This Face? Evolutionary biology holds that in any given population, extreme characteristics tend to fall away in favor of average ones. Birds with unusually long or short wings die more often "in storms. Human babies who are born larger or smaller than average are less likely to survive. The ability to form an average-mate template would have conveyed a singular survival advantage."

POPS$999.99 "I Am Rich" iPhone App Not A Joke I just checked the App Store and this app, which was released yesterday, is still live/available. Some see this as evidence that Apple is shirking its duty to select only useful, best-in-class apps for the App Store. But there probably is a market for witty, way-overpriced apps like this. And each time someone buys "I Am Rich," Apple will collect $300.
