POPSMagic Numbers in Politics: Part II by Thomas Sowell
Bluntly, it means more severe injuries and death. Many of the same people who protest against "trading blood for oil" when it comes to military interventions in the Middle East seem not to see that higher miles per gallon can also mean trading blood for oil. The magic number du jour is the number of Americans without health insurance. Apparently getting more people insured is another "good thing"-- which is to say, it is something whose costs are not to be weighed against the benefits, or whose costs are to be finessed aside with optimistic projections or a claim that these costs can be covered by eliminating "waste, fraud and abuse." In real life, people weigh one thing against another. But in politics one declares one thing to be imperative, so the issue then becomes how we do it. In real life, all sorts of desirable things are not done, either because of other desirable things that would have to be sacrificed to do it or because of the dangers incurred .

POPSCelente – People Should Brace For ‘Greatest Depression’ 2012 Forecast – Food Riots, Ghost Malls, Mob
“Here we are in 2012. Food riots, tax protests, farmer rebellions, student revolts, squatter diggins, homeless uprisings, tent cities, ghost malls, general strikes, bossnappings, kidnappings, industrial saboteurs, gang warfare, mob rule, terror,” he writes for a quarterly publication that is available through subscription on his website. He also talked about his forecasts with Greg Corombos of Radio America/WND in an interview that has been posted online. The recent surge in Wall Street indexes back to near the 10,000 level, still far below the 14,000 prior to the crash, should be no reassurance for anyone, he said. “There’s no recovery. This is merely a cover-up,” he said. “The market crashed in March of 2009 and around the world they papered over the damage from the collapse with phantom money printed out of thin air backed by nothing,” he said. This is “much bigger” than an economic collapse, he said. “This is the decline of empire America.”

POPSCBO: Medical Liability Reform--Saving $54 Billion in 10 Years!
“It’s a sad reality that our doctors do a delicate balancing act of choosing what’s best for patients while also trying to deflect frivolous lawsuits. It has created an unwinnable cycle of unnecessary tests and procedures and costs which are spiraling up and out of control. The time to set our healthcare system right again is now and these CBO findings show that we literally can’t afford not to take action.” The tort reforms identified by CBO as contributing to these significant savings include: * A cap of $250,000 on awards for noneconomic damages; * A cap on awards for punitive damages of $500,000 or two times the award for economic damages, whichever is greater; * Modification of the “collateral source” rule to allow evidence of income from such sources as health and life insurance, workers’ compensation, and automobile insurance to be introduced at trials or to require that such income be subtracted from awards decided by juries;

POPSAmerica’s First Zero Carbon Mass Transit Shuttle Compared to diesel or CNG buses, their buses have low maintenance costs, low operation costs, zero tailpipe emissions, and can reach a zero carbon footprint if powered by renewable energy sources. There will be a presentation/demonstration of the technology at American University in D.C. on Wednesday, October 21. They will be showcasing the following: - The 15-foot minibus showcased will be the first electric vehicle in the country powered completely by ultracapacitors. - Two dozen full-size ultracapacitor buses have been in commercial operation in Shanghai, China for the past three years. - The ultracapacitor vehicle demonstration is a combined effort of American University, Sinautec Automobile Technologies, The Stella Group, and Shanghai Aowei Technologies Corp.

POPSNikola Tesla Built an Electric Car in 1931 Tesla is one of my biggest heroes. In 1900 he understood the concepts behind what finally became the "web" and would have built it given the right support. He also had plans to distribute electricity wirelessly around the world for free. I truly believe he would have accomplished that too.

POPSMother Nature vs.The Automobile I am a weather fanatic. I'm posting this to share some of it with you. I had to leave out some interesting captions, because of the char. limit. Some of these pics are not as obvious as they look. I was unable to undo the captions I first clipped, because it is a slideshow on separate pages. You may click on any picture for details though. The last one looks b&w but, it is really an ice covered tree on top of a car.

POPSReally? You don't need facts, just a low IQ
The free market never does anything right, does it? If you have to pay $500.00 for a 200.00 airline ticket...thank a union member. If you are stuck in traffic for 2 hours in what should be a 45 minute commute because there is a road project that has taken 3 years and still is not completed, which should have taken 4 or 5 months...Thank a Union member. If you find the productive traditions of your nation being sucked away by third-world countries, because the cost of paying someone 28 dollars an hour to glue a sticker on an automobile - plus another 40 dollars an hour cost to the company, blame a union member. If your country is being ransacked by fascist thugs and greedy materialists who care not one iota for a particular company, just whatever they can control or steal...thank a union member. If state funds are depleted because trade shops keep their members on unemployment for 40% of the year, which results in staggering costs to taxpayers, then thank a union member.

POPSFord model T quotes+vid The Ford Model T (colloquially known as the Tin Lizzie and the Flivver) was an automobile produced by Henry Ford's Ford Motor Company from 1908 through 1927. The model T set 1908 as the historic year that the automobile came into popular usage. It is generally regarded as the first affordable automobile, the car that "put America on wheels"; some of this was because of Ford's innovations, including assembly line production instead of individual hand crafting (though the Oldsmobile Curved Dash had done this first), as well as the concept of paying the workers a wage proportionate to the cost of the car, so that they would provide a ready made market. The first production Model T was built on September 27, 1908, at the Piquette Plant in Detroit, Michigan.

POPSCompulsarary Insurance Won't Work and they get caught again. More fines they can’t afford, just like the insurance they couldn’t afford in the first place, and then they go to jail for failing to pay the fines. Now the government gets to provide their room and board and when they get out of jail they no longer have a job. Before long, the state legislatures start cranking out new bills and regulations aimed at coercing more people to buy insurance, forcing the insurance companies to sell insurance to people they don’t want to sell to, increasing penalties for not having insurance, and setting up multi-million dollar systems to track who has insurance and who doesn’t. Finally, the state gets into the insurance business to sell insurance to people who the insurance companies won’t or can’t afford to insure — call it a public plan to compete against greedy private insurers. .

POPSAll Clunkered Out Is anyone really surprised?! What an absolutely stupid program. This Administration at work. Please do not let them mess with your Health Care program. We have recently switched from one plan to another and are concerned about our future health care...but there is NO WAY I want those in Congress or in this Administration to be *helping me out*. :~(

POPSAnother Dubious Democratic 'Doctor' at HealthCare TownHall I’m indebted to a number of bloggers, including Kate McMillan, for drawing my attention to the fact that Dr. Leavitt is no stranger to local politics or to prefabricated “talking points.” In fact, at one time in the recent past, her own car was covered with them. As one reporter wrote in 2005: You could call Sheila Leavitt a nutty, annoying, unrelenting Newton leftie who home-schools the kids and raises chickens to share eggs with neighbors, not to eat. She is, of course, a vegetarian. I see her as one of those rare people who puts their convictions on parade, then faces uneasy consequences. Like the beefy, mad, middle-aged guy who followed her around the Esplanade yesterday, before dawn, tearing down her “Impeach Bush” posters as fast as she put them up.

POPSTexting While Driving (car crash reënactment) What it looks like before, during , and after a 3-car accident caused by someone texting while driving. No limbs get torn off, but there's plenty of realistic blood & broken glass. Anyone who gets into an automobile (let alone behind the wheel) should be required to watch this. Just because you're a safe driver doesn't mean there's not some dangerous moron driving the other car. Me? I don't own a car and take the less-driven streets on foot/bike. I don't generally trust you maniacs who drive cars. Not when you're behind the wheel of a 2000+ death machine & out in public. And yes, talking on the phone, even with a hands-free, is JUST AS BAD . It's about diverting your attention. "Oh, but I can multi-task". bullshit. I live in Oakland. I'm not worried about terrorism @ the port or getting shot in a bad neighborhood. But the car-drivers, they are the ones most likely to kill me if I'm not paying attention

POPSDealer’s Cash-for-Clunkers Claims Remain Unpaid This means each Transportation staff member is processing 1,500 claims. Sestak says the Administration should assign 1,000 processors to handle claims. Just imagine how many processors the government would need to handle health care claims. I wonder what percentage of those claims would get paid?

POPSAl Gore's no-carbon emission car arrives at US dealerships! A staff of Pakistani surgeons have set up mobile clinics outside select dealerships where young and old have taken the incentive offer and who wanted an immediate upgrade to compliment their new green automobile. At a San Diego dealership, a young aspiring actress recently bought a new Obama Green and had her knockers upgraded to size 38dd. With a smile and a little jiggle, she proudly took possession of her new eco-friendly automobile. Al Gore announced that it will be coming out with a new model next year for men..........It will be called the 'Big Dude', and sales are expected to be brisk.

POPSWhy Oakland's increased parking rates are beneficial
Much more in the original. More: Given how hard it is for people (all of us, not just automobile drivers) to imagine that a change in lifestyle might actually improve our lives, I can’t help but wonder how many of the people who are outraged about having to pay more for parking in Oakland live within walking distance of the destinations that they currently drive to, and whether they might discover that spending 20 minutes strolling to the Grand Lake Theatre for a movie, or to Arizmendi for coffee and pastry, or to Walden Pond Books for a used paperback is actually a much more pleasurable experience than driving there and looking for parking (even free parking)… if some significant number of people start walking and biking to those Oakland neighborhoods instead of driving because they don’t want to pay $2/hour for a meter, or because they fear getting a parking ticket from an overzealous parking enforcement officer, then I would consider that a feature, not a bug.
