French Atomic Bomb Test Photos from 1968
Kore7
by Kore7  11-8-2007    12
Never-before-seen 40-year-old pictures of French atomic bomb tests have surfaced on the internet and they are simultaneously beautiful and terrifying. The epitome of historical human achievement and wanton destruction combined in one split-second. These are four scanned pictures of hardcopies I possess of the French nuclear test codenamed Canopus, which was fired on 24th August 1968 in the Fangataufa Atoll. The French army had those pictures taken on site. Full-size links: 1 , 2 , 3 , 4 .

I remember way back, when France conducted extensive nuclear testing at the Mururoa Atoll , we boycotted buying anything French. That was hard enough, but try avoiding "Made in China". It's practically impossible!

urbanlife
by urbanlife  2-15-2008
A 164,200-square-mile ocean wilderness will conserve one of Earth’s last intact oceanic coral ecosystems. Kiribati consists of 33 islands scattered across 2,400 mi of the Pacific Ocean near the equator. It includes 8 of the 11 Line Islands, including Kiritimati (formerly Christmas Island), as well as the Gilbert and Phoenix groups and Banaba (formerly Ocean Island).
