False Premises
AtlLiberal
by AtlLiberal  7-20-2008
I often come across people attempting to argue that atheism is some sort of a creed or even a religion. This clip touches on why this simply isn't the case. The article itself goes into much greater detail.

Creationist Shows His Stuff
AtlLiberal
by AtlLiberal  7-7-2008
Here's a pretty typical tirade by a fundamentalist Creationist that pretty much touches on all the points that Creationists get wrong all the time. About the only point he makes is that he's pretty ignorant about science and adheres to the talking points of the conservative right. My question is how many of these proselytizers will have to be proven wrong before they're eventually shamed into admitting that they've been lied to. The sad part is that many certainly have children who are also subjected to these ignorant views thus the ignorance is allowed to be passed along generational lines.

Innumeracy's John Allen Paulos on credulity and love
enbar
by enbar  7-5-2008    1
A great post from 3quarksdaily (Feb. 2008) about the human desire to believe in something, even a fraud. Context: Paulos has put together a book debunking probabilistic arguments for God's existence. The clip doesn't do it justice -- RTWT ("read the whole thing").

PEW Survey Prompts Questions
AtlLiberal
by AtlLiberal  6-25-2008    1
As I noted in a previous clip the PEW Survey claims that 1 in 5 atheists believes in god. I remarked at that time that this simply doesn't make sense. In this clip (and the appended comments) several people suggest reasons why this might have happened.

Atheists aren't skeptical enough and...
Efrain Alvarado
by Efrain Alvarado  6-4-2008    3
...the best skeptics are actually theists. The agnostics ski down the mountain into the woods, searching for hard evidence on the basis of which to decide whether God exists—which is very odd, given that a moment ago they were standing here with us, ready to climb as declared skeptics. Agnostics, plainly, are wafflers in their skepticism: As the team gets going, they U-turn back to the foothills, where every true skeptic says there is nothing to find. They do not care about the truth. But even more astonishing than that, the atheists have just gone home. They are not down in the valley looking for evidence; they are not looking at all. They have packed in the science without lifting a boot, as if the summit were already taken, the question answered.

Theist Quotes - a collection from various forums
AcesLucky
by AcesLucky  6-3-2008    1
This doesn't even scratch the surface! Most of it is hilarious, and sad, that people can be so intellectually impoverished. I left off the names because they are probably embarrassing by now, assuming these people have improved their thinking. But the site (and shown here is a very short sample) credits the source and the person (otherwise you might not believe it with your own eyes)!

Quotations by Abraham Lincoln
AcesLucky
by AcesLucky  6-3-2008    24
""In religion, Mr. Lincoln was about of the same opinion as Bob Ingersoll, and there is no account of his ever having changed. He went to church a few times with his family while he was President, but so far as I have been able to find out, he remained an unbeliever. Mr. Lincoln in his younger days wrote a book, in which he endeavored to prove the fallacy of the plan of salvation and the divinity of Christ."
