The dispute on Spratly and Paracel islands in the South East Asia Sea (East Vietnam Sea, or South China Sea) is the hot point that can cause war in Asia. As American and Russian military powers in South East Asia are reduced, now China has the sole sea-force power in this region. They want to take control these islands, to get the oil from that area. POPS EU Tightens Sanctions On Burma Military Junta China, Myanmar's closest ally and one of its biggest trading partners, has ruled out imposing sanctions. We discussed the Asean charter only, no other issues,'' Myanmar Foreign Minister U Nyan Win told reporters in Singapore today. ``We don't want to discuss our issue.'' The European Union called for ``genuine'' dialogue for national reconciliation in Myanmar, according to a draft statement to be released after a meeting between the EU and the 10-member Asean group in Singapore on Nov. 22.

POPSGlobal Hypocrisy on Burma As for the Burmese people themselves what the world’s wilful impotence in dealing with their brutal rulers indicates is that ultimately they will have to achieve democratic rule in Burma entirely on their own strength. The people of the world will of course support them in whatever way they can but to expect governments around the globe to help topple the Burmese military regime is as unrealistic as asking the regime to step down on its own. There is no option but to keep the struggle going.
