POPSUN Watch ~ Human Rights Group Calls For U.N. Apology Over Congo Post in Kinshaha argued there was no need for it. "We will never know how many lives could have been saved if the Council, deferring to Congo's government, had not caused this unconscionable protection gap which slashed an early- warning mechanism just when the victims needed it most," Neuer said in a statement. Over the past two years the Council has abolished the posts of several other location-specific special rapporteurs, including those in Belarus, Cuba and Sudan's Darfur region. Since its launch in 2006 to replace the U.N. Human Rights Commission, the Council has held four special sessions on Israel's treatment of the Palestinians, one on Myanmar, one on Darfur, and one on the global food crisis. POPSSenate Leadership Forgives Lieberman "It's a resolution of reconciliation and not retribution...I appreciate it," Joementum is reported as saying. For those of you keeping track of these sorts of things, the Democratic congressional leadership has established that nothing you do, no matter how shitty and disloyal, will get you kicked out of the party. From the same leadership who established the principle that there's no such thing as an impeachable offense, this shouldn't come as a surprise. Seems bass-ackward to me, though -- he loses the seat where he was doing good work and keeps the position where he can do the most harm. This stands a good chance of biting us all in the ass down the road.

POPSAn open apology to boomers everywhere “We heard the voice of a man who can inspire with his words, who's unashamed of his own intelligence, who's willing to treat the citizens of this country like smart, capable people, worthy of respect.” So unlike Bush and his neo-cons. “For the first time in some of our lifetimes, we believed.” 60’s idealism coming full circle. With a little less violence.

POPSObama Apologizes for Nancy Reagan Joke See? I told you so ... The joke in question: I have spoken to all of them who are living -- I didn't want to get into a Nancy Reagan moment, doing any seances... Not a big deal, if you ask me. But I called it, so I thought I'd follow up.

POPSGay activists want the right to have sex in public restrooms. Is it a crime to have sex of any kind in a public restroom or isn't it? How come gays get to fight for their right to do it? Heterosexual couples get arrested for having sex in public places- like the ones in the median...... Robotoilets could be bad though- what if you happen to be in there just doing your regular potty business? I'm sure homo sex in public must not take that long. when will the door open on you while you go to the bathroom? 2 minutes? The gay rights activists are protesting by having people send rolls of toilet paper to this guy. they say it is because he needs help "wiping his dirty mind" HUH? who is the one with the dirty mind- isn't it the one having sex IN THE PUBLIC RESTROOM?

POPSMore Antigay Remarks From Jerry Lewis Jerry Lewis has always been known to be a rather mean-spirited individual. He has made many misogynistic remarks, as well as anti-gay comments over the years, as well as other socially offensive actions and statements which are too numerous to go into right now. The problem is, that the older he gets, the more cantankerous he becomes. He was once largely panned by the press in Montreal when he insulted vilely a female journalist who did not post a particularly favourable review of his performance.

POPSFalse Apology Syndrome "False Apology Syndrome — which is not yet found in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of the American Psychiatric Association or the World Health Organization’s International Classification of Diseases, tenth edition — is a therefore rich but poisonous mixture of self-importance, libertinism, condescension, bad faith, loose thinking, and indifference to the effects it has on those who are apologized to. I am, of course, sorry if you disagree."

POPSJohn McCain: Proud of His Supporters Diane Fedele - a racist blaming Obama for the fact that she is a racist. KFC should sue her for associating their brand with her sick racism. From the Video: When you got a Negro running for President he's definitely a second stringer. Oh John, you must be proud.

POPSThe Dumbing down It continues... Palin is the poster-child for low expectations in politics. Not only syntactically, but intellectually.

POPSFeds to look into Lee County Sheriff Scott's 'Hussein' Obama comment at Palin rally For the record, it's John Sidney McCain III and Sarah Louise Heath Palin. Gee..."Heath"...does that mean she's a heathen? And Joseph Robinette Biden, Jr. The investigation, though, is not for what Sheriff Scott said, but that he was speaking ex cathedra as a law enforcement official, by virtue of the fact that he was in uniform and on duty at the time he spoke. Had he been in civvies and on his own time, it wouldn't be an issue.

POPSMcCain's Double Standard If McCain wants to bash Obama for his occasional appearances on the same board with Ayers, a 1970's political activist who Obama disclaims friendship with, then he needs to examine his admitted long-time friendship to a government operative who was in the thick of the biggest political scandal in American history - and one of the greatest threats to the rule of law, G. Gordon Liddy. Both Ayers and Liddy say they have no regrets for what they did. Both served prison terms for their actions. Liddy, a radio talk show host, gives the advice: "if the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms comes to disarm you, resist them with arms. Go for a head shot, they're going to be wearing bulletproof vests. Kill the sons of bitches." Ayers, since imprisonment, has spent his time helping the poor and disadvantaged. McCain thinks Obama should apologize for associating with a criminal extremist. To which Obama might reply: After you.

POPS An American Triumph This film is thoughtcrime. By rights, it should not exist, and a decade ago could never have been made. Yet it keeps the laughs rolling while enlisting some of the industry’s biggest talents to expose every pseudo-intellectual pillar of Hollywood wisdom about the War on Terror – Samizdat with a smile. It should be celebrated on those grounds alone. Cast (in credits order) http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1190617/fullcredits#cast

POPSMcCain: Campaign by Anecdote Never mind that the stories have little to do with the topic, or that he, among Senators, bears more responsibility than most for the current financial debacle.

POPSStudents Protest FOR flag - Educrats Die of Embarassment
Students on campus started a campaign to wear as much red, white or blue clothing and carry as many flags as possible Thursday in protest of Tuesday's decision, despite the apology. Jake Shelly wore the same shirt he wore Tuesday and was not disciplined. "I am glad so many people are supporting this and wearing red, white and blue," his sister said. She believes the swift change in rules was because of the overwhelming student action. A.J. Galindo is one student who wore a patriotic shirt to school. Galindo's shirt honored Marine Cpl. Joshua Pickard, a family member who died in Iraq in 2006. Pickard's two brothers remain active in the Marines. "I think it is horrible that you can't wear an American flag to school without something like this happening," he said, referring to the flurry of activities during the school's lunch hour. "We have people fighting for our country and dying every day, but we can't wear an American flag at a public school?"

POPSChurch apologises to Charles Darwin over theory of evolution But Dr Brown says everyone makes mistakes, the church included. "When a big new idea emerges that changes the way people look at the world, it's easy to feel that every old idea, every certainty, is under attack and then to do battle against the new insights,'' he writes.
