POPSJupiter: Astronomy Picture Of The Day 2008 May 23 The newest red spot is on the far left (west), along the same band of clouds as the Great Red Spot and is drifting toward it. If the motion continues, the new spot will encounter the much larger storm system in August. Jupiter's recent outbreak of red spots is likely related to large scale climate change as the gas giant planet is getting warmer near the equator. POPS300-Year-Old Solar Eclipse Courtesy of those great folks at APoD, the oldest known (European) depiction of a total solar eclipse. Earlier depictions may exist in Asian sources - Arab and Chinese astronomers, for instance, made accurate notes on the supernova of 1054, which formed what is now the Crab Nebula, aka M1 & NGC 1952. The Chinese also kept accurate records of sunspots and comets long before other parts of the world did.

POPSZooming into the Pelican Nebula Astronomy Picture of the Day This short film is awesome. Truly an amazing vision. This really makes me regret not buying a telescope and all the accessories for photography when I could afford it. But observing vicariously is second best.

POPSGot aPOD? The Astronomy Picture of the Day is one of the coolest sites I have found. Pictures change daily and if you are a MAC user, you can get a widget to automatically update on your dashboard. A great way to learn about astronomy and get cool desktop wallpapers while you are at it.

POPSMarkarian's Eyes Lovely picture of the day on the APOD site, and the source link is actually to this particular page rather than to the main page which changes daily.
