POPSKung Fu Panda There is much to like about this movie. The story is fun, the animation is good, the characters are lovable. What I really liked about this movie was the lack of profanity, name calling, sexual innuendos, and gross humor. It is really hard to find a new movie for kids that doesn't use the word stupid. It might be in there, but I don't remember hearing it, and I usually cringe at every instance. I do not want my daughter to use derogatory language (sweet words that edify!) and it is difficult to find movies or tv that doesn't drip with it. This is a fun, heart-warming story with a lot of kung fu. It got one of the best ratings at Kids-in-Mind, too. (1, 3, 1)

POPSGermany in shock: a polar bear eats a fish "The Frankfurter Allgemeine news website reports that Knut "senselessly murdered the carp", fishing them out, playing with them and then leaving the remains." Doh. It's a polar bear. It has a natural instinct. It is SUPPOSED to kill fish. Hand-rearing it may mess with its head, but it will not remove instinct. And nor should it. Also, anyone who thought the carp would be left alone to eat algae and remain intact is stupider than those who succumbed to "Knut-mania" int he first place. And if somebody put the carp in there to show that the polar in question was a wild animal and not some sort of vegetarian celebrity then good on them! An animal is an animal. Full stop.

POPSSarah Palin's Thanksgiving slasher film I hate this kind of meaningless, hypocritical photo op. Any politician who "pardons" a Thanksgiving or Christmas turkey should damn well have a vegetarian dinner for the holiday, but somehow that never seems to happen. Two-faced hypocrisy. Especially coming from such an enthusiastic animal slaughterer – I mean, "hunter" – as Sarah Palin. More of her eloquence: "This was neat," she said of the outing. "I was happy to get to be invited to participate in this. For one, you need a little bit of levity in this job, especially with so much that has gone in the last couple of months that has been so political obviously that it's nice to get out and do something to promote a local business and to just participate in something that isn't so heavy-handed politics that it invites criticism. Certainly we'll probably invite criticism for even doing this, too, but at least this was fun."

POPSOpie & Anthony apologize for rape jokes
Recently, Opie & Anthony had a guest on named "Homeless Charlie" who talked about having sex with Condoleeza Rice and punching her face. Not surprisingly, they've now apologized. The content of what they aired was really disgraceful, regardless of whom they were talking about. HOWEVER, one other thing that bothers me about these shows is that they are making fun of homeless people. They get this guy on their show to say all of this awful stuff, and let's face it--they're using him like a circus animal. Last year, I visited California and I heard a show on the radio where they would get these barely literature homeless men to read snippets of dialogue from movies, and then they had contestants who had to correctly answer what movie the dialogue was from. This is just shameful, but no one cares about that. We crack down on people who demean powerful women (we should do that, regardless of how powerful they are), but no one cares when they simultaneously demean homeless people.
