POPSBefore the Lolcats: Harry Whittier Frees The author apparently received criticism earlier in his career about his photos. In this volume he reports, "It is happily no longer necessary to take time to refute earlier charges that such pictures are made by using stuffed animals, or by stupefaction, or even... by hypnotism. Their expression is the best answer to all such surmises. But there may still be lovers of animals who are disturbed by the thought that unnatural means, savoring of cruelty, may be employed. Nothing could be farther from the truth. Animals may be ruled by fear... but never can this result in a pleasing picture.... It is impossible to mistreat an animal in any way and secure such pictures as you will see in this book..."

POPSMonkey to be sent to Mars Obscene, chilling, cruel, insane, immoral ... The question is not whether animals (or humans) have rights. It is by what right do humans carry out such horrors on the innocent? The answer is by their Might only. Which is against all ethical behaviour which by definition starts with Might is NOT right. If it was, every evil is permissible. As, indeed, it seems to be these days ...

POPSAnimal Rights Lacking in the U.S.
More from the article below: "They call for heightened involvement by local police who regard themselves as swamped with "people problems," and fail to take animal abuse reports seriously. Similarly, it is difficult to find a local District Attorney who will prosecute an offender of an animal rights law. As a result, "cases are often resolved with counseling, meager restitution, or community service, instead of felony prosecution," the law professors write. The response of public officials, they note, lags behind that of public concern. "Societal attitudes toward the favorable treatment of animals, particularly toward the family pet, have changed." They point to a recent survey that showed 75 percent of pet owners "consider their pets to be valued family members." The law professors note that when the European Economic Community signed the Treaty of Rome in 1957 there no provisions on animal welfare. But the Treaty of Amsterdam revision 40 years later included an animal welfare p

POPSMichael Vick's unpaid dues: Why dog advocates won't just "move on"
More: "Jumper cables were clipped onto the ears of underperforming dogs, then, just like with a car, the cables were connected to the terminals of car batteries before lifting and tossing the shamed dogs into the water. We don't know how many suffered this premeditated murder, but the damage to the pool walls tells a story. It seems that while they were scrambling to escape, they scratched and clawed at the pool liner and bit at the dented aluminum sides like a hungry dog on a tin can. "I wear some pretty thick skin during our work with dogs, but I can't shake my minds-eye image of a little black dog splashing frantically in bloody water ... screaming in pain and terror ... brown eyes saucer wide and tiny black white-toed feet clawing at anything, desperate to get a hold…The rescuer in me keeps trying to think of a way to go back in time and somehow…pull the little dog to safety. I think I'll be looking for ways to pull that dog out for the rest of my life."

POPSEnd the Use of Live Pigs for Training at Baystate Medical Center The study Dying to Learn: Exposing the Supply of Dogs and Cats to Higher Education also found that both medical and veterinary students can learn just as well through alternative teaching methods that can include hands on training at shelters for vet students and simulators for medical students. POPSEvery time the little bear cub moved, I heard her cry with pain Trembling at the prospect of each blow from the stick, each rough pull of the rope, she is forced to wander the dusty roads, standing and swaying on her hind legs on command. She tires easily from her poor diet, pants with thirst in the oppressive heat, shakes with fear and exhaustion. Yet this bear cub dare not stop dancing, and she must do so again and again. This story is typical of the plight of many bear cubs in India. Sadder still, over 50% of these beautiful little creatures do not even survive the journey to 'market'. They simply die in cages en route, from starvation, dehydration and trauma. That's why these bears desperately need your support. WSPA is working with the Wildlife Trust of India (WTI) to stop this barbaric practice. Our aim is to halt it at the source, and your help is vital in helping us stop this cruelty.

POPSGreyhound Racing Will Break Your Heart. After watching the video at the end of this clip, I cried for 30 minutes. But these critters need all the witnesses and help they can get. If you are so inclined, there's a petition at the website that you can sign to help end this vicious cycle. Gotta go, so I can look into what's involved in adopting one of these dogs. Sheesh! it's the last thing I need, another critter... Oh well!

POPSBan Canadian Imports of Dog and Cat Fur The United States and the European Union already prohibit the import of dog and cat fur. Now it's time for Canada to follow suit! Tell Prime Minister Harper and Agriculture Minister Ritz that you do not support the import of cat and dog fur - or the commercial seal slaughter.

POPSImagine world without suffering... ...And this world is just step away. Away from killing. Animal, birds, fish... whoever we (most of us now) are eating. God (Mother Nature, Karma, whatever it is) not forgiving us for breaking its rules to live in harmony with surrounding world and punishing us for our ignorance. If only diabetes! Whole metabolic syndrome with depressions and host of mood disorders, disfiguring obesity, heart failure as direct result. Everything starting from what we putting in our mouths. Far from everything what we can chew and swallow can be good for your body! Watch what you eating and drinking! Educate yourself. You will be terrified what we doing now and inevitably come to the vegan lifestyle, where is no place for cruelty, diseases, tricks and sufferings.

POPSWill Dog Fighting Videos be Protected by Freedom of Speech? If the Supreme Court rules to uphold the conviction of Stevens, the law will be reinstated and animals will once again be protected from people who make money from their suffering. It seems like it should be an easy decision for the Supreme Court, but since the concept of free speech has come into question everyone from book publishers to movie producers, photographers, artists and journalists have gotten involved. They have taken animal cruelty out of the equation and replaced it with their own interests that they believe will be damaged if Stevens loses. Even the ACLU has gotten involved. The New York Times went as far as filing a “brief” in support of Stevens. They said, “The 1999 law imperils the media’s ability to report on issues related to animals.” Media publications cite that they are concerned that hunting and fishing magazines will be censored and general reporting on animal issues will be limited.
