POPSPelosi Delivers Americans Her Poison Bill This is the only plan that would allow the American taxpayers to receive the full $2.6 trillion in lease payments, royalties and corporate taxes that some estimate will be generated from full exploration of the OCS. But the all-of-the-above plan does not end there. It also opens up the 10.3 billion barrels of oil estimated to be in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge. A 2007 study by the University of California estimated that leases and royalties from ANWR would generate $251 billion in government and state revenue — and that was assuming a barrel of oil cost $53. Oil opens at $102 a barrel today. Alternative energy is not ignored either. The Republican plan also attempts to improve energy conservation with tax credits for businesses and families who purchase more fuel-efficient vehicles. Barriers to the revival of the nuclear power industry are removed, and the tax credits for renewable energy (including but not limited to wind, solar and hydrogen) are part of the plan.

In addition, we recently learned that an undisclosed, non-germane $2 billion earmark was inserted into this bill in complete violation of House rules. It should be vigorously voted down.

POPSPelosi Bans House Energy Vote: Force Discharge Petition Pelosi to Secure Energy Vote Ban ..Speaker Pelosi refuses to bring this bill to the House floor, a discharge petition is the only way to force a vote on this legislation. House rules state that a discharge petition must have 218 signatures (a simple majority) in order to bring a bill to the floor for a vote, and Rep. Tim Walberg is working hard to bring both Democrats and Republicans together in support of this bill. Currently the petition has 139 signatures. In other words, the supporters of Walberg's bill only need an additional 79 votes to force Pelosi to bring the bill to the House floor for a vote!

POPSThe Really Very Problematic "Pickens Plan" sources that T. Boone Pickens rails about in the context of oil. In its most recent annual outlook, the U.S. Department of Energy projects that the U.S. natural-gas market will become more integrated with natural-gas markets worldwide as the U.S. becomes more dependent on imported liquefied natural gas -- causing greater uncertainty in future U.S. natural-gas prices. The natural-gas supply problem will be additionally magnified if significant greenhouse-gas regulation is enacted. Here's how: Currently, when natural gas gets too expensive, electric utilities often substitute coal or cheaper fuels for power generation. Under a greenhouse-gas regulation scheme, however, inexpensive coal might no longer be an alternative because of the significantly greater greenhouse-gas emissions involved with its combustion. Utilities, and ultimately consumers, could easily find themselves at the mercy of natural-gas barons -- like T. Boone Pickens himself, a large investor in natural gas

POPSGreen technology creating 'green collar' jobs I stand strongly behind my belief that if this country committed ourselves to becoming energy independent with the same determination that we committed to putting a man on the moon, that we could do it and we could create millions of new jobs in the process. It would be an enormous driver of economic growth and strengthen our leverage in the Middle East because we would no longer be reliant on their oil.

POPSMemo to President Obama 2010 Politically, we have not seen the benefits of a filibuster proof majority in the Senate. It seems that every Democratic Senator has decided that if you could become President they could too. Considering that they are all more qualified than you, all of them are now also running for President - with the exception of Senator Schumer, who seems to be running for the position of God. He believes that is his appropriate pay grade, since no one else has it.
