POPSHidden Sensory System Discovered in the Skin The human sensory experience is far more complex and nuanced than previously thought, according to a groundbreaking new study published in the December 15 issue of the journal Pain. In the article, researchers at Albany Medical College, the University of Liverpool and Cambridge University report that the human body has an entirely unique and separate sensory system aside from the nerves that give most of us the ability to touch and feel. Surprisingly, this sensory network is located throughout our blood vessels and sweat glands, and is for most people, largely imperceptible.

POPS GOP Trifecta? But it can be difficult to draw broader conclusions from off-year contests, which often turn on local issues. ************************************************** Revolt in New York Beltway bigs misjudged public dismay against the Democratic agenda in Washington. Picked by GOP elites without a primary and with a voting record to the left of many Albany Democrats, Ms. Scozzafava faced a revolt by local and national conservatives in favor of businessman Doug Hoffman, who was nominated on the Conservative Party line. The longtime GOP assemblywoman saw herself falling in the polls and yesterday endorsed Democratic lawyer Bill Owens, who could still win the GOP-leaning seat with a plurality. http://online.wsj.com/article/SB10001424052748703932904574509633956777194.html?mod=loomia&loomia_si=t0:a16:g2:r4:c0.0565713:b28671837

POPSSept. 19th - Tis time to talk pirate, me hearties More: But it wasn't until humorist Dave Barry caught wind of the idea and threw his support behind it in a September 2002 Miami Herald column that this rickety ship took sail. # Ahoy -- Hello. # Avast -- Stand and give attention; listen up. # Aye -- I heartily agree with everything you said or did. # Aye Aye -- Yeah, boss, I'll get on that as soon as I finish this coffee or rum. #Aarrr -- Not to be confused with Arrgh (a sign of pain), it's a way of announcing yourself to the world, telling everyone you're here and alive. It could mean don't look at my girlfriend that way, or I'm enjoying this hamburger.

POPSGOP To Draft Resolution Designed To Oust Rangel: Run Gov. Paterson for Seat!!! "I'm disappointed in the Congress because everyone's entitled to a full hearing and they're not giving me that," Rangel said. When asked how he feels about Congressman Carter's move to have Rangel step aside from Ways and Means, the Harlem Democrat said, "I'm disappointed in him." During the event Rangel service notice he didn't want any embarrassing questions about the growing ethics storm around him. "I would hate to see anyone attempt to mar this with questions that are not directly related to this exciting event," Rangel said. And here's a new twist. Highly placed Democratic sources told CBS 2 HD they have discussed the possibility of using one damaged New York politician to get rid of another. It centers on having Rangel resign, and giving Gov. David Paterson a dignified way to leave Albany by running for Rangel's congressional seat.

POPSMandatory flu vaccination splits Healthcare workers If I were in their position I too would be outraged. Half of the Doctors I have talked too are not even recommending for their patients and certainly our pediatricians are saying not to get the H1N1 for our kids, which we had not planned to do anyway. If I was these doctors and nurses I would just not get it as the state is just asking for a huge shortage of nurses and docs by doing this. Society needs the nurses and docs, they don't necessarily need to stay at these jobs.

POPSIs Your Newspaper Covering It?–––ACORN Corruption at the Local Level
Some interesting items not being covered in the investigative report are the links between the WFP and ACORN, and even certain names mentioned in the article which clearly show ties with the organization. The WFP has been shown to be nothing more than a front for ACORN and its radical policies. Why? RedState has demonstrated that the WFP was founded by key members of ACORN, and shares many of its political strategies. The WFP lists ACORN as an affiliate program directly on their Web site. Roger Stone calls the New York Working Families Party "one of ACORN's most successful projects". The New York Post analyzes the many shady dealings of the WFP, and its affiliation with ACORN. Yet a simple review of the above material demonstrates that these fraudulent ballot allegations may have been orchestrated by a higher entity - namely, ACORN. Seemingly just as strange, is that a quick look into the history of one of the key components in the story, Karen Scharff, shows a . . .

POPSFree Wi-Fi As an Albany resident this is great news. It may only be available in certain areas of the city (I don't know) but it would be nice if it was city-wide. I think it would be especially good for those residents who can't afford internet service.

POPSNY Senate Stalemate is Over - For Now Word of the discussion came after unusually chaotic 24 hours in Albany. Gov. David A. Paterson named Richard Ravitch as lieutenant governor on Wednesday, but early Thursday, Senate Republicans received a temporary restraining order that sought to prevent Mr. Ravitch from taking office. The Republicans got the restraining order from a judge in Nassau County. Paterson administration officials, however, had already rushed to swear in Mr. Ravitch about 8 p.m. on Wednesday at Peter Luger Steakhouse in Brooklyn. Thursday morning, in introducing Mr. Ravitch, 76, a Democratic lawyer with a career in government dating back a half-century, Mr. Paterson said his choice would not take action until the court issue is resolved, although he said he believed the appointment was legal.

POPSIs it Ringling Bros. or the New York State Senate? Paterson has threatened to call the Senate back into session every day, including weekends and July 4. Maybe the threat of having to give up a holiday they just might decide to play nice and get some actual work done. I vote that we cut their number in half. They would get just as much work done at half the cost. Now that’s what I call fiscal responsibility.

POPSRepublican Coups In New York
And Democratic leaders must determine what to do about 45 workers toiling away in a building close to the Capitol who appear to have been engaged in quasi-political research for the Republicans. "Every time we nail something down, we uncover another rock and there's another 30 people there it's all over the state," said Angelo J. Aponte, who as the new secretary of the Senate is the top aide to Malcolm A. Smith, the Queens Democrat who became majority leader last month. But as Citizen Bruno was busy getting indicted on massive federal corruption charges, the new majority was taking bold steps to fix the basic way that New York works -- reforming the state's notorious Rockefeller drug laws, seeking to limit outside pay for legislators, and -- perhaps most impressively, from our perspective in the netroots -- introducing unprecedented transparency via a new website streaming all Senate business and providing novel opportunities for citizens to get involved in the Se

POPSRepublicans seize control of the New York State Senate It was a noisy and acrimonious scene on the floor of the Senate as Senator Thomas W. Libous, a Republican from Binghamton and the party’s deputy leader, shouted for a roll-call vote, while Democrats attempted to stall the vote by asking to adjourn the session. After the results of the vote were read aloud, the in-house television station that carries Senate proceedings live in the Capitol went dark. All that appeared on the screen was a still photo of the Senate chamber and the words “Please stand by.”

POPSLimbaugh's living large while radio boss Clear Channel implodes Cont.... The astronomical worth of Limbaugh's eight-year pact: $400 million. The amount of money Clear Channel execs have been trying to scrimp and save this year as they lay off thousands from the struggling company: $400 million. Ironic, don't you think? Context: Clear Channel now pays Limbaugh more than NBC pays late-night ratings king Jay Leno. Who thinks Limbaugh brings in more ad revenue for Clear Channel than Leno does for NBC? FYI, The Tonight Show generates approximately $200 million annually for NBC.

POPSWhy fear Sex Abuse Bill, if no Molesters to Hide? The National Organization for Women and a prominent organization of African-American clergy came out in favour of the bill, joining sexual abuse survivors at a rally in Albany on April 21. “Abuse against children is violence,” Rev. Anthony Evans, president of the 34,000-member National Black Church Initiative, at an Albany news conference. “I don’t represent a god who condones violence. It is a shame we have to fight against the church in this.” Assemblyman Dov Hikind, D-Brooklyn, distributed a letter on April 22 asking Agudath Israel to reconsider, and suggesting possible compromises to make the one-year window more amenable, such as a cap on abuse victims’ financial awards or limits on plaintiffs’ attorneys contingency fees. “Achieving justice for the victims need not come about as a result of the financial demise of our greatest institutions,” Hikind wrote. ”But neither can we forsake those who have already sacrificed far too much.”

POPSFirst the Bees, Now Something is Killing Our Bats. I heard a recent interview with a biologist on this subject, and her opinion was that white-nose could be the problem, but because fungus is rarely fatal on its own, it was quite likely that the bats had a compromised immune system already, and white-nose was just the final blow. Considering how vital bats are to controlling insects, this is one mystery that needs to be solved quickly.

POPSSuzanne Lyall, Monday4 the Missing “Until we know for sure that Suzanne’s deceased, we’ll always hold out hope that she’s alive and out there somewhere. There’s no getting away from that for us. Even if on the surface people in our situation might say we’ve given up and there’s no way she’s alive, there’s still that little cell way back in the consciousness that says she could be. You see a story on TV where a woman has been held captive in some underground bunker for ten years and you think, ‘Is Suzanne being held against her will somewhere?’” Crime Rant
