POPSQualitative Research: Using Technology in Class This is a wonderful example of what I like to see, a reprise of a qualitative study into the uses of technology in the regular progression of improving students' use of technology while teaching class at the college level. Any teacher could use Ed Webb's protocol and replicate this research in their class. A teacher could even expand on this research by giving a formal pre-post test of technology skills and an interest inventory. Using Google Forms, a teacher could easily present the tests and survey (inventory).

POPS White Lions of South Africa
This gives them away to their prey and makes them an attractive target for hunters. According to Linda Tucker, in “Mystery of the White Lions " Children of the Sun God” they are bred in camps in South Africa as trophies for canned hunts. The chinchilla mutation, a recessive gene, gives white lions their unusual colors. A similar gene also produces white tigers. White lions can therefore be selectively bred for zoos and animal shows. Such breeding involves inbreeding of close relatives and can result in inbreeding depression (genetic defects, reduced fertility, and physical defects) although this has not yet been recorded in white lions in zoos as it has in white tigers. According to Tucker, white lions in canned hunt camps have been found to have hind-limb paralysis and serious heart defects, indicating a severe level of inbreeding involved in mass-production although they are rare in the wild.People are concerned about the White Lions mating with regular lions.

My own feeling is whilst this is a success story generally, bringing the numbers of elephants in Sth Africa from virtual extinction into now finding a solution to manage their population growth. There is a huge irony that is much more subtle.

A statement on the SIOE Web site criticizes the secrecy of the process: "It was shocking to hear about the plans and at the same time knowing that Danish politicians and a Danish press - who is otherwise proud to be critical - has told nothing to the Danish people about this project which begins in January. This also showed clearly at the conference. Only very few politicians showed up and no media. Those politicians who showed up had obviously never heard about the

By that time also their breast milk had dried up. So they skipped feedings and/or added more water. Often the water was contaminated. Babies died; their growth was stunted; their brains damaged, they succumbed to simple diseases, etcetera. NESTLE also gave their formula to nursing mothers in other poor countries, e.g., in Africa and South and Central America. This formula lacked nutritional ingredients that were in the regular formula, with the same or similar results as above.
