POPSMaking Jihadists
....simply because they are the ones who are most thoroughly indoctrinated and influenced by the Islamic dogma in their most receptive early years. Yet, there are others who embrace Islam in adulthood, on their own, and enlist themselves as devoted jihadists for the same rewards that Islam offers them. Islam has a great advantage of the first call on the new arrival. It is an omnipresent system with masses of believers, mosques and madresehs, and a host of other social and economic organizations that overpower the person and steer him into the same fold; it is a sea of people who seem to know what they are all about, what life and death are all about, and what one must also do. Within this sea of surging humanity composed of some 1.5 billion Muslims, each individual believer -- a drop -- through a combination of choice and forces beyond his control, ends up in one of its many waves. It is the jihadist wave that is highly attractive to the deeply-indoctrinated and poorly-adjusted

POPSFormer neo-Nazi speaks against hate
That startling confession is just a glimpse into Leyden’s transformation from violent bigot to anti-hate activist. Co-author of Skinhead Confessions: From Hate to Hope, the 43-year-old commanded the attention of more than 60 people for nearly two hours Sunday evening (Nov. 8) at the Paradise Elks Lodge during a community forum called “Turning Away From Hate.” His story was one of a violent adolescence and a shameful adulthood spent recruiting young men into the white-supremacy movement. His foray into that world began in the late 1970s. Leyden, who grew up in the Southern California city of Fontana, was a punk-rock kid known for his extreme aggression. Back then, he explained that the scene focused on violence, anarchy and a “might makes right” attitude. When Leyden’s parents divorced in 1980, he sought further refuge in this subculture. He began spending more and more time on the streets and at punk shows, where he turned increasingly violent. His behavior attracted attention of

POPSTo whom it may concern: I resign More: I want to return to a time when life was simple. When all you knew were colours, multiplication tables, and nursery rhymes, but that didn't bother you, because you didn't know what you didn't know and you didn't care. All you knew was to be happy because you were blissfully unaware of all the things that should make you worried or upset. I want to believe in the power of smiles, hugs, a kind word, truth, justice, peace, dreams, the imagination, mankind, and making angels in the snow. So.... here's my cheque book and my car keys, my company badge, my credit card bills, and all 32 of my computer passwords. I am officially resigning from adulthood. And if you want to discuss this further, you'll have to catch me first, cause, TAG!! YOU'RE IT!!

POPSSome Odd Facts from the Animal World Which animal grows the maximum from birth to adulthood? Though a male kangaroo can be about 7 ft. tall and weigh 90 kg, at birth they are about 2 cm tall and weigh a few grams only! After birth, the baby has to climb about 6 inches along the furs of its mother’s abdomen to reach the edge of the pouch and enter into it. It is equivalent to a human baby climbing about 10 ft.! The infant kangaroo is suckled inside its mother’s pouch, where it completes its development to emerge when it weighs more than a kg.

POPSChildren Who Suffered Bullying Are More Likely To Develop Psychotic Symptoms In Early Adolescence
A study including 6,437 early adolescents with an average age of 12.9 was carried out by Andrea Schreier, Ph.D., and his colleagues of The Warwick Medical School, University of Warwick, Coventry, England. The children participated in the Avon Longitudinal Study of Parents and Children (ALSPAC). Questionnaires were regularly sent by mail to parents concerning their child's physical condition and progress since birth. Beginning at the age of seven, the children were submitted to physical and psychological evaluations on a yearly basis. During the yearly visits, they were rated by skilled interviewers on whether during the preceding six months they had experienced hallucinations, delusions, thought disorders or any other psychotic symptoms. Peer victimization is defined as harmful actions and unfair treatment by one or several other students with purpose to harm. Children, parents and teachers were required to account on whether the child had suffered such oppression.

POPSFinally a Consumer Fights Back.
Although, I don’t relate to this woman's belief system, I DO relate to her as a consumer. All of us who have struggled with credit card debt and job losses know the frustrations of climbing a greased pole. The banks have been putting the screws to us for a long time. As a child, I would hear adults talking about LOAN SHARKS. On TV there were stories of bones being broken for non-payment by such LOAN SHARKS who charged exorbitant interest fees. I was glad to find out, this technique was illegal and US banks could never resort to such tactics to coerce payment. In adulthood, I learned quickly, that there were legal procedures of torture, no physical bone breaking but just as vexing. In Capitalism, the torture is mental and longer lasting. Today’s banks use teaser loans to lure us, once we’re captured by their come-ons they pounce and raise the APR's so high, that there is no escape from debt. I salute this lady who didn't take it lying down! She threw a few punches back!

POPSBlame Truffles Maybe it's because I was up til 6:30am this morning doing really tedious and nerdy stuff. Maybe it's because I haven't had enough coffee today. And also I'm debating not smoking any cigarettes today. In any case, I couldn't have any less respect for psychiatry than I do at this precise moment. Kthxbye.

POPSBatterers Don't Just Appear Read The Whole Article Kids need to learn to respect each other when they are young and bring that attitude forward to adulthood. They need to understand that the loud, obnoxious people who always seem to get the laughs get tiresome. The respectful people are more and more in demand as they grow older. Kids need to understand that the way to a better life is not by bullying and dominating others, but by being a part of their lives, sharing the good and difficult times.

POPSNarcissistic Personality Disorder
Definition By Mayo Clinic staff Narcissistic personality disorder is a mental disorder in which people have an inflated sense of their own importance and a deep need for admiration. They believe that they're superior to others and have little regard for other people's feelings. But behind this mask of ultra-confidence lies a fragile self-esteem, vulnerable to the slightest criticism. Narcissistic personality disorder is one of several types of personality disorders. Personality disorders are conditions in which people have traits that cause them to feel and behave in socially distressing ways, limiting their ability to function in relationships and in other areas of their life, such as work or school. In particular, narcissistic personality disorder is characterized by dramatic, emotional behavior, in the same category as histrionic, antisocial and borderline personality disorders. Narcissistic personality disorder treatment is centered around psychotherapy.

POPSInfant pain, adult repercussions
Continuation: To test this hypothesis, LaPrairie and Murphy gave adult animals that were injured at the time of birth a drug called naloxone. This drug blocks the actions of endogenous opioids. After animals received an injection of naloxone, they behaved just like an uninjured animal. The scientists then focused on the periaqueductal gray region to see if inflammation at birth altered the natural opioid protein expression in this brain region. Using a variety of anatomical techniques, the investigators showed that animals that were injured at birth had endogenous opioid levels that were two times higher than normal. While it's beneficial to decrease pain sensitivity in some cases, it's not good to be completely resilient to pain. ------------------------------------------- Wow, I had now idea of that. The feeling of pain fascinates me. It's just so interesting how important it is and to think how it works... Sometimes we may not even pay attention to it, but many of
