POPS Surge This If we really face a serious situation requiring a non-Bushian surge of air marshalls, we need to re-think our legal treatment of the Detroit pants bomber, separate him from his lawyer and exhort him to chat with some intelligence professionals. Or, if talking to the pants bomber is not a priority, why the faux non-Bushian surge? Oh, well - if Michelle, Sasha and Malia were flying on commercial jets I have no doubt the pants bomber would be in Gitmo right now. Instead, Obama and Holder get to preen on the world stage as ardent defenders of civil rights while we wonder whether other Americans will be blown up. POPSIsolated Extremist???????? Al Qaeda in Yemen is the same group with which Anwar al-Awlaki is affiliated. Awlaki, a U.S.-born imam, preaches a radical form of Islam that may have inspired the Fort Hood killer. As CNSNews.com reported earlier, al-Awlaki described Maj. Nidal Hasan as a "hero" after Hasan allegedly shot and killed 13 people at Fort Hood last month. Hasan reportedly had contacted al-Awlaki on numerous occasions before the rampage. Rep. Pete Hoekstra (R-Mich.) told ABC News it looks like al-Awlaki "played a role" in the attempt to bomb Flight 253. "All roads point back to Yemen, they point back to Awlaki, I think it is a pretty deadly combination," Hoekstra told ABC's "The Blotter."

POPS Pee Wee Obama's Big Adventure
As a reference point when Bill Clinton went to Asia for a week in 2000, that trip alone cost $63 million for all of the necessities of a glutton White House. Don't think for a second that the gluttonous Obama's are saving one dime. I ask people to remember Ronald Reagan vacationing at the Reagan Ranch. I ask people to remember George H. W. Bush who vacationed Kennebunkport at his family house. I ask people to remember George W. Bush in vacationing at his Texas ranch. Those properties were all paid for and did not cost $40,000 in rent. These Republicans if you recall liked to ride horse in Reagan, fish in Bush 41 and Bush 43 liked running a chainsaw. All cheap entertainment. There was never any entourage of pigs in family and friends seeing who could suck an expensive vacation off the US taxpayers. All three of these Republican Presidents dealt with economic catastrophes and understood the value of every cent they were spending. Yet Obama rolls in and can't find

POPSChristmas bomb bid complicates Gitmo plan Christmas Day bombing attempt aboard Northwest Flight 253, Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab, reportedly spent time in Yemen after graduating from a London university in 2008. According to ABC News, Abdulmutallab has told authorities that, while in Yemen, Al Qaeda operatives crafted the explosive device that was sewn into Abdulmutallab’s underwear. “Yesterday just highlights the fact that sending this many people back — or any people back — to Yemen right now is a really bad idea,” said Rep. Pete Hoekstra (R-Mich.), the ranking Republican on the House Intelligence Committee. “It’s just dumb. ... If you made a list of what the three dumbest countries would be to send people back to, Yemen would be on all the lists.” “I think it’s a major mistake,” Rep. Peter King (R-N.Y.) said about prisoner releases to Yemen.

POPS Update: Investigators: Northwest Bomb Plot Planned by al Qaeda in Yemen
Investigators say the suspect, Abdul Farouk Umar Abdulmutallab, a 23-year-old Nigerian student whose birthday was last Tuesday, has provided detailed information about his recruitment and training for what was supposed to be a Christmas Day suicide attack. Hat tip: ABC News Less than two months after 13 Americans were murdered by a militant Islamic fundamentalist, another terrorist attempted to kill several hundred people aboard a jumbo jetliner. The announcement said the device contained PETN (pentaerythritol), which the Justice Department called “a high explosive.” “FBI agents recovered what appear to be the remnants of the syringe from the vicinity of Abdulmutallab’s seat, believed to have been part of the device,” the released added. The government said: “Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab, 23, a Nigerian national, boarded Northwest Flight 253 in Amsterdam, Netherlands on December 24, 2009 and had a device attached to his body.

POPSWhen Liberal Dreams Collide With Public Opinion
"What's really exceptional at this stage of Obama's presidency," writes Andrew Kohut, the Pew Research Center's respected pollster, "is the extent to which the public has moved in a conservative direction on a range of issues. These trends have emanated as much from the middle of the electorate as from the highly energized conservative right. From which we can draw two conclusions. One is that economic distress does not move Americans to support more government. Rasmussen reports that 66 percent of Americans favor smaller government with fewer services and only 22 percent favor more services and higher taxes. The second is that Barack Obama's persuasive powers are surprisingly weak. His advocacy seems to have moved Americans in the opposite of the intended direction. Obama first came to national attention in 2004 by promising to heal partisan, ideological and racial divisions. Like the other two Democratic presidents elected in the last 40 years .....

POPSIran, Obama and the Bipartisan Sanctions Bill “Suspicious aims.” New charges were also brought last month against Iranian-American scholar Kian Tajbakhsh, who was already sentenced to at least 12 years in prison on espionage charges. The regime has been going after other foreign nationals, including French teacher Clotilde Reiss, who is living under house arrest in the French embassy in Tehran. Christopher Dickey notes in Newsweek that “since Ahmadinejad took over four years ago, some 35 foreign nationals or dual nationals have been imprisoned for use as chump change in one sordid deal or another.” Diplomacy. In October, the U.S. and its allies offered to enrich Iran’s uranium in facilities outside the country, supposedly for the production of medical isotopes. Tehran finally came back with a counterproposal late last week, in which no uranium would leave Iranian soil. Even Hillary Clinton admits it’s a nonstarter:

POPSDems/Reps should be wary of wishes on health care. "The dominant issues today are the economy and jobs, and the public doesn't see either party making these a real priority. Further, polls show trust in government handling of domestic issues remains at historic lows. What most voters hear from Washington these days is squabbling over health reform involving a government role they don't trust and don't want."

POPSThe Adam Lambert Problem When it comes to Adam Lambert, gay organizations should either ignore the guy or criticize him for helping foster the image that gay people are obsessed with sex and flaunting that in the public square. While many gay and lesbian singers, actors and talk show hostesses live their lives openly, they leave the sexual aspect of their lives where it belongs: behind closed doors. After Lambert’s recent stunt at the American Music Awards, he has certainly extended his fifteen minutes. I don't act like that and none of my gay friends act like that. Lambert is an idiot. He does nothing to improve the image of gay people. Neil Patrick Harris and Ellen De Generes he surely is not.

POPS Does Anyone Believe Obama? Obama told Gibson that anybody who says they are concerned about the rising deficit or worried about tax increases in the future has to support this health care bill. ABC NEWS http://bit.ly/4Xi39G “Because if we don't do this, nobody argues with the fact that health care costs are going to consume the entire federal budget,” the president said. Most Americans realize by now that he'll say anything to advance his agenda. I doubt they're even listening. Propaganda is inherently boring. I'd like to see a poll that measures his credibility. He's lost the independents and there's a real sense of betrayal on the left, along with fear that January will be just as wee-weed up as August.

POPSExclusive: Andrew Breitbart Announces Launch of New “Big” Sites
In an exclusive interview with Mediaite, Breitbart shares his vision for his expanding network of “Big” right-of-center sites: Though he’s not exactly a household name, Breitbart has long been a power player in the sphere of Internet influence and opinion.
