POPSNew Bedford Firefighter Saves Cat: Performs"Mouth To Mouth Resuscitation" The MSPCA kicked off a fund-raiser last week in Springfield to buy oxygen masks for cats and dogs for each of the city's 18 fire engines. Performing CPR on a cat or a dog requires training. In many ways, it is the opposite of what rescuers do for humans, which typically involves pinching the nose closed and covering the person's mouth with one's own lips to create a seal. With dogs or cats, a rescuer holds the animal's mouth shut and puts their mouth around the snout. http://www.southcoasttoday.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20080910/NEWS/809100334

POPS New York's Bravest Mourn Lost Brooklyn Firefighter A Brooklyn firehouse that lost five members on 9/11 is again mourning the loss of one of its own today, this one tragically killed while on vacation with his family. NY1’s Amanda Farinacci filed the following report. A flag hangs at half-staff and a bunting waved today outside the quarters of Ladder 111 Engine 214 in Bedford-Stuyvesant, days after 41-year-old firefighter Martin Simmons drowned trying to rescue his son while on vacation in Nevada. “Marty was what we call a premier firefighter in this company,” said firefighter Joe Honan. “He was almost one of the senior guys. He was a guy that took no trouble running things.”

POPSSperm donor to pay child support Sperm donor to pay child support Andy Bathie, 37, from Enfield, north London, claims he was assured by the couple he would have no personal or financial involvement for the children. He donated his sperm as a friend rather than go through a fertility clinic. The CSA said only anonymous donors at licensed centres are exempt from being treated as the legal father of a child born as a result of their donation. Mr Bathie, a firefighter, said he cannot afford to have children with his own wife due to the financial implications. The lesbian couple, who approached the couple five years ago after they married in a civil ceremony, have a boy and a girl.
