POPSPolygamy is the key to a long life Men, by contrast, can reproduce well into their 60s and even 70s and 80s, and most researchers assumed this explained their longevity. But Lummaa and colleague Andy Russell wondered whether other factors explained the long lifespan of men, such as a grandfather effect. If female survival is the main explanation for male longevity, then monogamous and polygamous men would live for about the same length of time. Instead, it seems that fathering more kids with more wives leads to increased male longevity. Men, then, live long because they're fertile well into their grey years. The explanation could be both social and genetic. Men who continue fathering kids into their 60s and 70s could take better care for their bodies because they have mouths to feed. But evolutionary forces acting over thousands of years could also select for longer-lived men in polygamous cultures.

POPSChess Got More Info Than Torture - Steak Dinners Helped Several of the veterans, all men in their 80s and 90s, denounced the controversial techniques. And when the time came for them to accept honors from the Army's Freedom Team Salute, one veteran refused, citing his opposition to the war in Iraq and procedures that have been used at Guantanamo Bay in Cuba. "I feel like the military is using us to say, 'We did spooky stuff then, so it's okay to do it now,' " said Arno Mayer, 81, a professor of European history at Princeton University.

POPSWhy We're Such Suckers for Advertising Of course, we are also drawn into bad behavior by the other senses — even from blocks away the smell of baking bread can send us reeling, and the sound of '80s rocks and roll can transport us back in time — but humans, like all primates, are visual animals. We are constantly distracted by what we see, and marketers know this. They wave pretty pictures at us and make sure our retinas are branded with words like Dunkin’ Donuts and Krispy Kreme.

POPSYou're Never Too Old For Sex...or STDs!
"However, Dr. Hutcherson says that's a fallacy. Patients often are too shy to ask their doctors difficult sexual questions -- so doctors need to ask them directly, she says. "I say, 'How's your sex life?' and then wait for the answer. And that normalizes and makes it much easier for an older woman to say, 'Well, there are some issues that I want to talk to you about.'" Author of "What Your Mother Never Told You About S-e-x" and a columnist who writes for Essence and Glamour magazines, Dr. Hutcherson is blunt about asking her patients if they're practicing safe sex. It could save their lives. Statistics show that although the highest number of new HIV cases is in people in their thirties and forties, there are now more patients being diagnosed in their fifties than in their twenties. 'Sex Is Life-Long' So, once they're practicing safe sex, Dr. Hutcherson says it's time to make sure they're having enjoyable sex. "Sex is life-long," she says. "You should never give up on somethin

The founders believe volunteering gives the elderly a sense of purpose and happiness, as well as many health benefits. TIS fosters an educational community of excellence that provides experiences and skills for life-long learning and spirited citizenship for learners of all ages. TIS encourages communities to create new environments that empower learners of all ages, as they become life-long contributors to a society. TIS incorporates community volunteers into the life of the school. Volunteers perform a variety of tasks from painting and setting up classrooms to mentoring young readers and writers. POPSChristian Love? While not applicable to to all Christians this report does cast an accusatory finger to the Catholic Church and its well known predisposition of cover-ups and lies to protect their own. IMO, another damning pronouncement of religion in its many guises.

POPSReligious Pedophilia The rest of the piece: "So the forced marriage of this little girl — and it is forced, because no one that young can truly consent to a marriage and she demonstrated her feelings by running away — is perfectly consistent with both shariah (the laws of Islam) as well as the laws of Saudi Arabia. At the same time as this is happening, the Saudi religious police is cracking down on circus performances because "magical" acts (fire eating, laying on glass) is against shariah. That makes a lot of sense, doesn't it?"

POPSBushie the Moonie It seems the Bush family just can't seem to help throwing its support and dollars at the so called Rev. Sun Myung Moon. Yes, the daddy of the Moonies is in cahoots with the daddy of the Bushies, and has been for years. For anyone who is not sure why this should be an issue, just do a bit of reading about Moon and his ruinous cult.

POPSThis is what little girls looked like when I was a kid No pink. No sparkles. No fake high heels – or worse, real high heels. Just a kid, wearing clothes a kid can play in, playing with a toy for kids. Damn, I honestly never thought I'd feel nostalgic for 1981, but you look around at the pink-pink-pink-pretty-princess image that's shoved down girls' throats these days, and suddenly the 1970s standard kids' outfit (t-shirt, Tuffskins jeans, and Keds or other plain, practical sneakers) looks wonderful.

POPSHow Israel Helped to Spawn Hamas When Israel first encountered Islamists in Gaza in the 1970s and '80s, they seemed focused on studying the Quran, not on confrontation with Israel. The Israeli government officially recognized a precursor to Hamas called Mujama Al-Islamiya, registering the group as a charity. It allowed Mujama members to set up an Islamic university and build mosques, clubs and schools. Crucially, Israel often stood aside when the Islamists and their secular left-wing Palestinian rivals battled, sometimes violently, for influence in both Gaza and the West Bank.

POPS"The Next Tip Is To Be Absolutely Ruthless,"Says Director of Camp Obama "Listening, listening, listening. Listening is the No. 1 tool," she says. They hold a mock Iowa caucus in which campers learn to try to lure other candidates' supporters to Obama during re-alignment periods. Building alliances Just about all the candidates' campaigns do some version of this volunteer training but others don't have the candidates' own backgrounds to draw on in mapping out the training regimen. Alinsky had been dead for a decade when Obama came to organize in Chicago in the '80s, but his disciples were here ready to train him as Woodards is ready to train the volunteers.
