POPSSTATUE OF LIBERTY PICTURES: Rare Views, Inside and Out The torch has been off-limits to visitors since the "Black Tom" explosion of July 30, 1916. The Statue of Liberty would reopen in 2004, and the reopening of the crown will complete the process on the Fourth of July, 2009.

After examining the proteins, the scientists found that the bat proteins exhibited less damage than those of the mice, indicating that bats have a mechanism for maintaining proper structure under extreme stress.
