POPS10 Rules That Govern Groups 6. Leaders gain trust by conforming A high-profile, high-status role in any group is that of its leader, but where do leaders come from? In some groups, they are appointed or imposed from outside, but in many groups leaders emerge slowly and subtly from the ranks. 7. Groups can improve performance... 8. ...but people will loaf 9. The grapevine is 80% accurate Intelligence, rumour, gossip and tittle-tattle is the lifeblood of many groups. 10. Groups breed competition While co-operation within group members is generally not so much of a problem, co-operation between groups can be hellish. People may be individually co-operative, but once put in a 'them-and-us' situation, rapidly become remarkably adversarial.

POPS10 more must-try exotic fruits Rose Apple, also known as Champoo is one of the most interesting exotic fruits on the planet, just for the fact that it smells and tastes a lot like roses. Unfortunately they are rarely found in markets around the world because they spoil very quickly after being picked. The bell-shaped fruits are crisp, crunchy and have a delicious fresh flavor. It can be eaten whole but as with apples, many people prefer to leave the core. Rose Apples are also boiled in hot water to make scented Rose Water.

POPSWorld's Biggest Thesaurus Born His team began transcribing information from the 20-volume Oxford English Dictionary (OED) on to slips of paper. They plugged away for more than a decade, and disaster almost struck in 1978 when the building housing the only copy of their work caught fire. The entire building was gutted, but the slips remained intact because they were stored in metal filing cabinets. After that the slips were written in triplicate and stored in three different locations. As technology developed, the work in progress was microfilmed, and eventually computers were used.

POPS50 Beautiful HDR Images from 50 World Cities HDR can be and often is overused. Some people like that effect. I do not. But I do believe that HDR is a very powerful tool that can help photographers get images that would have previously been unavailable due to dynamic range problems. Technology is NOT evil. It allows us to do things as story tellers and image makers that will be important to those who come after us.

POPS"The DNA Code" - Life Hardwired in the Universe The study indicates that you don't need a miracle to arrive at the chemical cocktail for early life, just a decently large asteroid with the right components. That's all. The entire universe could be stuffed with life, from the earliest prebiotic protein-a-likes to fully DNAed descendants. The path from one to the other is long, but we've had thirteen and a half billion years so far and it's happened at least once.

POPSStephen Hawking on Extraterrestial Life more: Hawking continues: "What is the explanation of why we have not been visited? \One possibility is that the argument, about the appearance of life on Earth, is wrong. Maybe the probability of life spontaneously appearing is so low, that Earth is the only planet in the galaxy, or in the observable universe, in which it happened. Another possibility is that there was a reasonable probability of forming self reproducing systems, like cells, but that most of these forms of life did not evolve intelligence." We are used to thinking of intelligent life, as an inevitable consequence of evolution, Hawking emphasized, but it is more likely that evolution is a random process, with intelligence as only one of a large number of possible outcomes.
