Over half of Americans believe in guardian angels
Mohir
by Mohir  9-23-2008    11
Also, political party was linked to religious beliefs, with 77 percent of Republicans saying they believed in heaven, compared to 54 percent of Democrats. Those Americans who say they do not believe in God -- four percent -- as well as those who say they have no religion -- 11 percent -- were very close the figures in the 2005 survey. In all 45 percent of Americans say they have had at least two religious encounters in their lives, the survey found, and conservative Protestants were more likely than Catholics or Jews to report religious or mystical experiences.

Waiting for Sarah
masbury
by masbury  9-22-2008    10
24 days after her nomination, Sarah Palin has yet to announce a news conference. Never before in modern American history have the American people, through the media, had so little access to a national candidate. Now why would that be?

A Conservative For Obama
dmegivern
by dmegivern  9-22-2008    5
I saw this clipped earlier, but I didn't realize the gravity of the endorsement. Wow, a publisher of the National Review saying, "But I now see that Obama is almost the ideal candidate for this moment in American history. I disagree with him on many issues. But those don’t matter as much as what Obama offers, which is a deeply conservative view of the world. Nobody can read Obama’s books (which, it is worth noting, he wrote himself) or listen to him speak without realizing that this is a thoughtful, pragmatic, and prudent man. "

Richard Dawkins' jaw-dropping talk on our bizarre universe
wildcat
by wildcat  9-22-2008    1
Richard Dawkins discusses the question of limits on human understanding. As a species we evolved to cope with the world within a particular range of physical dimensions. These determine our common sense view of the world. How far can the plasticity of our brains transcend this limitation?

Rush Limbaugh Hates Mexicans - But in a Funny Way!
dulios
by dulios  9-22-2008    10
My problem with Rush is not that he's a bigot. Bigots are actually funny to me in the way that people who still wear parachute pants give me a chuckle. What bothers me about Rush's ilk is that they don't actually have the stones to be real racists or women haters or anti- Semites. Though they irresponsibly fan the flames of hatred, they don't own the strength of their convictions. When they are called on their stuff they run back to their bunker, which is heavily fortified for a reason, crying "but it was only a joke!" Like when Rush joked that Obama was a "haf-rican," or when he jested that Obama was a "magical negro." Oh, the hilarity. Be a man, Rush. Be a hateful man, but be a man instead of a pasty- lookin' crackhead drug addict whose wives keep ditching him 'cause he's impotent. That last bit was just satire, of course, so please don't take it out of context.
