POPSFact: Nearly All of Hitlers Beliefs Placed Him On the Far Right[
Many conservatives accuse Hitler of being a leftist, on the grounds that his party was named "National Socialist." But socialism requires worker ownership and control of the means of production. In Nazi Germany, private capitalist individuals owned the means of production, and they in turn were frequently controlled by the Nazi party and state. True socialism does not advocate such economic dictatorship -- it can only be democratic. Hitler's other political beliefs place him almost always on the far right. He advocated racism over racial tolerance, eugenics over freedom of reproduction, merit over equality, competition over cooperation, power politics and militarism over pacifism, dictatorship over democracy, capitalism over Marxism, realism over idealism, nationalism over internationalism, exclusiveness over inclusiveness, common sense over theory or science, pragmatism over principle, and even held friendly relations with the Church, even though he was an atheist.

POPS[WATCH] Ousted Honduran President Zelaya Goes to Washington Interesting: according to Real News the San Jose Accords requires Zelya to abandon the consitutional referendum that he advocated when in office. The referendum, if successful, would have brought participatory democracy to Honduras. In Honduras, particiipatory democracy is prohibited by law. People are forbidden to ask questions about taxation, social programs, etc. The only way to change the law is to amend the constitution: Zelaya was ousted by the elite for his efforts. In Honduras, six (6) familes control 90% of economic activity while 75% of the people live under the poverty line.

POPSStudy Explores Egyptians' Attitudes Towards US On the other hand, the study also found that Egyptians believe that Obama will not succeed in the fight against terrorism and will not be able to achieve peace in the Middle East. His biggest challenges as president are the war on terrorism and the global economic crisis, according to the study. Egyptians believe that it is too early to judge whether change will actually come about during Obama’s presidency. However, those surveyed did predict a slight change with regards to the US policy in the Middle East, but maintain it will not change dramatically. “A negative image is a long term process; you can’t jump from negative to positive. This negative image has to first be changed into a neutral image and then from neutral you can go to positive and this takes time

POPSBig Lie Politics: The Republicans and Al Franken If the Republicans, who have been routed in the past two election cycles, are determined to reject the will of an American electorate that has since 2006 expanded the Senate Democratic Caucus membership from forty-five to fifty-nine, the Democrats had better be ready to play hardball. Reid and his compatriots (including Franken) must push back. If they don't challenge the filibuster privilege outright, then they must at least pressure Republican moderates like Pennsylvania's Arlen Specter and Mainers Olympia Snowe and Susan Collins to cooperate. After all, if Republicans like Cornyn define their party's role as that of obstruction at every turn, this Senate will cease to function when it comes time to chart the new economic and foreign policy courses that voters demanded November 4

POPSVote for Obama and Against McCain - but without iIlusions George Will - Surely in a Democracy it's time for us to quit being sentimental, and say the question we settle in an election is not whether elites shall rule, but which elites shall rule. Thank you for your honesty George Will. It's about time that someone cut through the pretense.

POPS10 Books That Screwed Up The World I agree with most of this list, the rest I have no opinion because I haven't read the books. My curiosity has been piqued enough to read them and found out. Read the article to learn beyond the summaries why these books (and by extension, their authors) are considered to be so harmful.

POPSQuotes on Economy Our civilization is locked in the grip of an ideology - corporatism. An ideology that denies and undermines the legitimacy of individuals as the citizen in a democracy. The particular imbalance of this ideology leads to a worship of self-interest and a denial of the public good. The practical effects on the individual are passivity and conformism in the areas that matter, and non-conformism in the areas that don't -- John Ralston Saul The acceptance of corporatism causes us to deny and undermine the legitimacy of the individual as citizen in a democracy. The result of such a denial is a growing imbalance which leads to our adoration of self-interest and our denial of the public good. -- John Ralston Saul
