The president had better wake up. This is no longer the 90's when the LGBT community could be placated with words and promises. We learned from the Clinton betrayal what with DADT and DOMA. This is Obama's responsibility. He raised hopes to the sky and now is showing the glass ceiling.

He has kicked DADT to the back burner, and there is no indication of when he will begin the process of repealing DOMA. The natives are restless. I am still taking a wait and see attitude, and I do have fairly high hopes.......for now.

These women were good enough to be the adopted parents of a 12-year-old child, and good enough to be responsible for this drug addicted infant when relatives could not be found, but now, for purely discriminatory and prejudiced reasons, this judge wants to take this child out of a loving home. These kids no nothing about the issue, but are being taught, by their own parents, that it is OK to be prejudiced against a particular minority group. This is even more pathetic since these kids are obviously members of a minority, themselves.

More Antigay Remarks From Jerry Lewis

Jerry Lewis has always been known to be a rather mean-spirited individual. He has made many misogynistic remarks, as well as anti-gay comments over the years, as well as other socially offensive actions and statements which are too numerous to go into right now. The problem is, that the older he gets, the more cantankerous he becomes. He was once largely panned by the press in Montreal when he insulted vilely a female journalist who did not post a particularly favourable review of his performance.

There are over 2.5 million gay seniors in the U.S. All of them have lived through the days when being gay meant facing discrimination, job loss, familial animosity, alienation of friends etc. But times have changed, and gay seniors have new recognition as important members of society. Sage, is a new organization, supported by AARP that helps gay seniors live the kind of lives to which they are entitled. Finally, elders who happen to be gay, can join us younger gays in taking our place in the new freedoms, being granted us in the ever expanding acceptance and tolerance of society. Things are far from perfect, but we are definitely getting there.

The religious right is out full-time trying to rev up the hatred of gays and lesbians in order to make sure we do not acquire the same civil rights every other citizen possesses. There is good reason to believe this vote will fail again, but just for the record, Senator McCain is fully in favour of this ban on gays having equal rights. An Old Law Dies So Same-Sex Marriage Can Thrive

Massachusetts has repealed it 1913 law that refused recognition of marriages performed in their state that would not be recognized in a couple's home state. New York, and California will also recognize same-sex marriages in this manner. This will probably result in many lawsuits in states that have banned gay marriage, by demanding that their marriages from Massachusetts and California be honoured at home, claiming that it is unconstitutional to refuse recognition of marriages from other states. Anyhoo, this is another step forward towards marriage equality in the U.S. and it is about time.

Great news, indeed! Even greater news is that Ahnold has promised to abide by the court's decision, and NOT support the upcoming state constitutional amendment outlawing gay marriage. So, this is a done deal. This comes at a very interesting time for me. My partner and I are getting married on August 31. We are a same-sex couple, and we live in Canada where gay marriage came into being in 2005 (country-wide.) So, naturally, we are really thrilled to know that finally the U.S. seems to be taking a step in the progressive social direction. It is certainly about time.

Stories like this really warm my heart. I am sure the fact that my partner of 26 years, Arnold and I are getting married in Montreal on August 31st has something to do with my personal reaction to this report. I am so proud to live in a country that finally recognizes that same-sex couples are just as much in love, and dedicated as heterosexual pairs. Anyone who knows Arnold and me knows how very much in love we are, and how we share our lives together completely. These two ladies are another example of how love between two people is special no matter what sexual orientation is involved. As an American living in Canada, I am always saddened to see how far behind my home country is from Canada and other countries in the world who are finally recognizing the rights of gays and lesbians in their society. Yes, a great deal of progress has been made in the U.S. but there appears to be a real hard-core resistance to granting equal rights to homosexual couples.

Patients will now be able to determine for themselves who can be at their bed side no matter the legal status of their relationship. Up til now gay couples were often separated during illness in hospital because there was no legal requirement to permit non-family members to visit. As ridiculous as that might sound, there are countless stories of gay men and lesbians being kept away from their partners because of their lack of recognized legal status as a couple. One would think there would be no need for this kind of rule to be established. How sad that this is the situation in a free and democratic society.

Hollywood Still Forcing Gay Actors to Remain Closeted

Hollywood producers and studios continue to have little faith in movie fans, and believe that if an actor comes out as gay, they will stay away in droves. This problem does not seem to exist in Canada, Britain, France etc. I can't help but wonder why it is that the U.S, even in these allegedly enlightened times, continues to be fearful of gays. I know the original Puritanical basis of the country is often blamed, but we must remember, those Puritans came from the same countries that are now much more accepting of homosexuals.

Although Maryland and Pennsylvania are neighbours, their politicians seem to have very different views on same-sex marriage and civil-unions. I don't really believe that the folks in Pennsylvania and Maryland are all that different, especially considering the fact that 57% of Pennsylvania Conservatives support civil unions. It just seems that there are still too many Republican/Conservative politicians who have yet to get the message that their mean-spiritedness is no longer appreciated by their constituents.

It's ironic that a same-sex divorce case would open the door to legitimatizing same-sex marriage in New York State, but that appears to be what has happened. There is a same-sex marriage bill stalled in the state legislature, which governor Spitzer said he would happily sign once the bill is passed. But in the meanwhile the courts have been making it very difficult to continue to discriminate against gay couples who wish to wed. This is a fascinating story, no matter which side of the issue you might be on.
