POPSAdd Up the Damage Bob Herbert, in this most excellent OP-ED summarizes why we must not permit George W. Bush to silently slip out of town. Read his entire commentary and see if you do not agree.
1
POPSPresident Bush's Clout in the Middle East is Going, Going, GONE! Georgie W. Bush, the lame, lame-duck guy temporarily occupying the Oval Office has no clout in the Middle East, or anywhere else in the world of foreign policy. His credibility is shot. His allies are few, and most of the world is counting the days until he shakes hands with his replacement at the new president's inauguration in January. The world is waiting to take its collective sigh of relief on the winter morning, when the war criminal in chief finally bid farewell, and hopefully gets dragged to the Hague where he will be tried for war crimes. Oh well, I can dream, can't I?

POPSBush & McCain Support the Troops by Saying...F**k 'em!
President Bush and Presidential wannabe Senator McCain are always bragging about how they support the troops and honour their service. Oh yeah! This sounds great, but when it comes to actually doing something good and fair for them when they return from the firing line, they say fuck 'em. No money for their education or other benefits. After all, if we make it too good, they will wanna leave the service rather than remain canon fodder indefinitely. Neither of these political pieces of fecal matter stop to think about how increased and improved GI benefits will bring additional people into the service that will more than make up for those who might leave after three years. All they care about is having enough bodies willing to be shot up in Iraq so they can maintain their illegal and tragic war. These war criminals should hang their heads in shame as should anyone who would consider voting for McCain after seeing what a hypocrite he really and truly is.

POPSThe Conservtive Gov't of Canada is imitating the Bushies Canada has always been far more democratic than the U.S. when it concerns access to information and transparency in government. Not perfect, for sure, but terrific compared to some of the tricks used in my home country of the U.S. But since the Conservative government, which is essentially made up of remnants of the failed Reform Party, has come to power, they have done everything in their power to imitate the machinations of the Bush administration and its policies of secrecy and outright lying. This article explains how they have now, without any notice whatsoever, closed down the access to information database that is used by journalists and the public to track the goings on in government. Canada must dump Stephen Harper and his gang of regressive assholes, and bring back transparency in government before the entire system turns into a carbon copy of the Bush administration. Harper has said his political hero is George W. Bush.

POPSPetraeus to Head Centcom This scares me a bit. Fallon is leaving because of his differences with Bush on his Iran policies. Bush and his neo-cons, including Republican candidate McCain are proponents of military action against Iran. Petraeus also agrees with a tough Iran policy. It is too convenient for my comfort to know that months before Bush is finally to leave office, he is ridding himself of a general who does not favour his Iran policy with one who does. To me this stinks of the probability of war with Iran before the end of the Bush administration, and passing it on to the next president to deal with.

POPSFormer Republican Senator Cafee Blasts a "two-faced" Bush Lincoln Chafee was a rare breed in the senate. A very Liberal Republican. The words Liberal, and Republican are just not thought of together. But this man put his belief in fairness for all, above political party ideology. He is one Republican I was sorry to see go in 2006.

POPSTroy's Poision Pill Please read this entire article in Mother Jones. It explains how a Bush appointee made it next to impossible for a person to sue a drug or pharmaceutical company, or medical device manufacturer for injuries sustained from use of their product. The claim goes that if the FDA approves a drug or device, that that should be the end of the line. As long as the product meets FDA approval, not judge or jury should be able to determine that said product could be responsible for someones injury. This is another example of how the Bush administration has put big business over human lives. Is it any wonder he demands preemptive immunity for communications companies, when he already had the FDA preempt medical liability lawsuits? This just gets disgustinger and disgustinger.

POPSWillie Nelson Wants to See Bush Impeached
Country singer Willie Nelson wants to impeach Bush and "Throw the bastards out." However, he does not see the Democrats as a viable alternative considering how they have not done a thing to change direction in Iraq and keeps caving into Bush. He feels the deck is stacked against the people. Ya know what? I think he has a good point. The only hope I think the county really has right now is to elect Senator Obama as president. I honestly do not know if he will be a good president or not. However, I really believe he has the potential to be a transformational political figure and we should give him a chance to live up to that potential. He is the only candidate on the scene who can move the nation in a positive direction emotionally, and motivate them to engage themselves in the election, which is something very much lacking up 'til now. I honour the work Hillary has done and continues to do as a senator, but as president she would be back to the future.

POPSAn Israeli Rabbi Thanks Bush for Invading Iraq.
I become very angry when I hear Orthodox rabbis thanking President Bush for attacking Iraq and thus supporting Israel. I have no problem whatsoever with America's support of Israel, which is an ally of ours. But I become very annoyed when we are expected to go to war with a country that did not attack us, simply because an ally finds it advantageous for us to do so. I find it very interesting that the vast majority of American Jews (70%) are against the Iraq war, while we are told that the majority of Israeli Jews are happy for it. I understand differences in opinions and perceptions, but to have someone thank a leader for going to war with a country that did not pose a direct threat to that leader's country, and had not attacked the ally either, just seems particularly cold blooded. I wonder how the families of our dead and wounded soldiers feel, as well as the families of the tens of thousands of Iraqi civilians who were killed and maimed. For what are we being thanked?
1
POPSBrattleboro Vt, Wants to Indict Bush and Cheney for War Crimes Of course, such an indictment would not really have any significance, but it certainly would demonstrate the level of disgust some people in our country have for these murdering war mongers. My greatest wet dream is to see these two guys, along with Rumsfeld dragged to the Hague, tried, convicted and thrown into the cell formerly occupied by Hess.
3
POPSThe Bhutto Murder is Being Exploited by Bush....Surprise! "President" Bush is once again trying to blame to good vs evil forces in the name of Islamic and Muslim terrorists for the murder of Benazir Bhutto. He is so simplistic in his accusations in the hope that thinking people will not look beyond the rhetoric and investigate the situation within the Pakistani government and its leader Pervez Musharraf. I urge you to read this entire piece, it is not long, and see how Robert Fisk looks at the situation.
6
POPSRove Will Probably Wiggle Out But Is Still Comtemptuous My guess is that Karl Rove and Josh Bolton with the assistance of the criminal in chief, will be able to wiggle out of this contempt citation. But if the public is watching, it will be another potential stake in the heart of the corrupt Republican party. I used to be a Republican, but that was decades ago, before the party was taken over by corrupt, religious freaks, with their hypocritical morality claims, and their far right war mongering ideology.
3
POPSOur Brave Democrats Are As Fearful As Ever Once again, the Democrats, who so many of us put into power in order to change the direction of the Iraq policy and to bring our troops out of the hell hole, are going to give Bush his blank cheque to continue his war. Even though better than 72% of the country want this war to end, the Dems continue to be chicken to do anything tangible about it for fear the nasty Republicans, whom the U.S. electorate have all but totally abandoned, might call them soft of terror. Oh come on! This is getting to be not only ridiculous, but criminal. We the people have had our say, and our representatives are ignoring us for their own cowardly political reasons.
3
POPSJoe Says No Holy Joe has once again shown his true colours. Do NOTHING that could possibly make the Bush administration look bad in any way whatsoever. Who cares if the mercenaries who were sent to Iraq are killing civilians in cold blood, if investigating the deadly situations might make Bush's judgment in sending them into the war zone without any legal way of holding them responsible for their actions look bad. Lieberman is one of Bush's greatest war supporters, and is one of America's most ardent neocons. I hope the citizens of Connecticut who fell hook line and sinker for Joe's lies during his last campaign have learned a lesson, and will never believe that bastard again.
8
POPSAnother Insightful Perspective By Bill Maher Bill Maher creates an interesting analogy between Bush's manipulation of the Iraq war and Ken Lay's similar tactics at Enron. My clips do not do the piece justice, and I urge all of you to read the entire commentary.
9
POPSBuck Fush With A Taser Last week's tasing of a student challenging Senator Kerry at a University forum inspired a Colorado State University publication to run a four word editorial, with the intention of instigating a discussion at the university of free speech. Lots of speech, free and otherwise has ensued.
7
POPSMore Evidence That Bush Lied About WMD This new revelation adds more evidence to the belief that Bush and his cohorts lied to congress and the American people about the need to go to war in Iraq. This is a must-read article from Salon, and I urge you all to take the time to consider its contents. By the way, does anyone know what has happened to the so-called part 2 of the intelligence report that deals with how the White House used the intelligence leading up to the Iraq invasion? I know the Republicans under the leadership of Pat Roberts put it on the back burner and then turned off the pilot light. But the Dems promised that this report was A #1 on their list of things to complete and release, and since then, not a word has been said. Or, am I missing something?
2
POPSOlbermann, Once Again Hits The Nail on the Head
It amazes me that Keith Olbermann is the only cable news journalist to have made a serious issue over Bush's comments concerning how he is playing the Iraq war for political purposes. I hope you will either watch or read Keith's entire comment as it makes plain just how crass and soulless Bush actually is. Once again, his words reinforces my belief that Bush is a sociopath. What bothers me tremendously is that no other news person dealt with Bush's comments. Chris Matthews, on his Hardball program went on endlessly about Bush's comments as it concerns his plans for making a lot of money on speaking engagements after leaving the white house. Chris felt it was a very inappropriate subject to be discussing (money) while still commander in chief of our soldiers who are being killed and wounded in battle. As inappropriate as those remarks very well may be, they don't come close to the crassness if Bush's admission to playing politics with the Iraq war.
1
POPSIs Chertoff Another Liar for Bush? Rumour has it that Michael Chertoff may be in the offing as the nominee to replace Al Gonzalez as Attorney General of the United States. There is much to question concerning Mr. Chertoff's veracity as this article explains.
8
POPSFailing Upward in the Bush Administration This article from Mother Jones lists a sampling of people who were unqualified for the positions they were given in the Bush administration, and who when failing at their jobs found themselves falling up into even better positions. I could only clip one, but I urge you to read the entire list.
0
POPSChertoff to Replace Gonzales? I Don't Really Think So The reason I don't think the Chertoff idea will fly is because it will make for a very contentious confirmation hearing. Bush certainly does not want the entire Hurricane Katrina debacle brought up for another round of commentary and questioning. I think Bush will seek someone who is squeaky clean as far has his administration is concerned, and not terribly controversial. He has enough on his plate during his lame duckedness. Another controversy or bloody battle for a confirmation is not in the cards. Especially with Iraq still being in the boxing ring.
11
POPSCheney Appears to Want War With Iran Dick Cheney and Joe Lieberman have been working their neo-con agenda very hard with Bush. Many believe this is why Bush has named the Iranian Guard and terrorist organization. Thankfully, Condi Rice is against such action, as is Secretary Gates. But Cheney has a way of getting what he wants out of Bush, and from all indications, he is being quite relentless in his pursuit of war with Iran.
2
POPSWar Drums Beating Towards Iran Some people think that Bush having named the IRGC as a terrorist organization is just a way of assuaging the hawks in the administration, but does not indicate any particular action is being planned against Iran. Others believe that this is an ill-conceived, reactionary action by Bush that now enables his reasoning for attacking Iran. I happen to personally believe the latter is true, but I hope I am wrong.
8
POPSSnubbed by the French president's wife Even though her husband is obliged to break bread with the revolting and nauseating George W. Bush, Madame Sarkozy much prefers avoiding that disgusting experience and fakes an illness to avoid being in such company. Ain't we all proud to have this man as our leader? At least Madame Sarkozy has good taste and refuses to socialize with someone she so obviously disdains.
9
POPSA Lone Senator Finally Has The Guts to Censure Bush But His Collegues Fail Him Russ Feingold has the guts to introduce a bill of censure against Bush et al, and instead of doing their duty for the American people and following-up on this well deserved action, both the House and Senate are not going to back him up. They are too cowardly to do what the majority of the American people demands. I have no use for either party in the U.S. system of government. That county is now so lost, I do not know how we will ever find our way back to what we were intended to be, and lived up to for over 200 years.
2
POPSAnabolic Bush I personally am not terribly concerned about Mr Bond's home run record, as I do not follow sports, and I truly believe there are far more important matters going on in the world. That being said, I recognize that there are gazillions of sports fans out there who are concerned with this and related matters and that's what makes horse races. Because of all this interest in Bonds and his soon to be created new home run record, I decided to read this piece I would have otherwise ignored. In reading it, once again I discovered another matter in which Bush has displayed his blatant hypocrisy. This is the "law and order" politician (not to be confused with Fred Thompson) and yet when it came to drug use in baseball during the years he owned a team, he decided to turn a blind eye. It must be nice to be able to change our values and beliefs on a moments notice when it is convenient to do so, and not have to face any consequences for doing so.
8
POPSCindy Sheehan Really Means It Cindy Sheehan and her fellow protesters really want to see Bush and Cheney impeached, and every day, increasing numbers of Americans are beginning to feel the same way. I am so glad she decided to rescind her retirement from the anti-war movement. She is a hero to many, and an inspiration to those of us who feel congress is simply not doing enough to end this war, and bring Bush and Cheney to justice for the lies they told the American people in order to get our support for this war, as well as their trampling of our Constitution.
17
POPSBush's Compassionate Conservatism Does Not Include Sick Kids George W. Bush was literally strong armed into signing legislation while he was governor of Texas that protected poor kids from going without health care. Now that he is president, he is trying to prevent helping poor kids on a national level. Has this man no shame?!?
6
POPSBush and Cheney Will Walk Away Smirking The most upsetting aspect of everything this administration does is that there is little to know doubt that they WILL get away with it in the end. Unless the congress is willing to actually force Bush, Cheney et al to face the consequences of their actions, nothing at all will happen. The dems have already announced, loud and clear, that impeachment is off the table. So, in that case, why all the hollering and shouting if we're just wasting our sweat and energy? Let's face it. The people have lost control of this government. Perhaps we should all just figure out a way to start this whole political process all over again.
32
POPSGeorge Bush Doesn't Know Why People Don't Like Him George Bush has been asking around the white house about why people seem to dislike America, or is it just him they dislike. My guess is that the world will once again warm up to America and appreciate us for the great country we are, once the Bush boy is gonzo. I just wish he were heading to the Hague where he could be tired, along with Cheney and Rumsfeld for war crimes.
6
POPSBush Turns His Back on Cheney's New Grandson During the 2004 presidential campaign President Bush said although he does not support gay marriage he DOES support same-sex civil unions. Now that the floor is falling out from his presidency and he is quacking like the lame duck he is, he is threatening to veto new legislation because the Democrats removed language that would ban same-sex civil unions. He has learned absolutely nothing, and is even going against his own avowed beliefs. Oh please 2009, hurry up and get here already. I am not one for wishing my life away, but the country just can't take any more of this dangerous man.
12
POPSKids Conftont Bush on Torture, Which, Of Course, He Denies Leave it to the kids to have the guts to confront the torturer in chief and hold him to the fire. Of course, the president simply scanned the note with his eyes, smiled at the student and offered assurance that America does not engage in torture. My guess is the kid knew it was bullshit, or the letter would not have been written in the first place. Now, if only our professional media had the same chutzpah as this kid and could stand up to Bush and demand answers and accountability.
7
POPSThe Secret Prisons are Not Secret Any Longer After all the denials by Bush and his murderous cohorts, the truth is finally out. I really have nothing further to say about this, because the entire matter is way beneath the dignity and founding beliefs of our nation. Bush and company should hang their heads in disgrace.
7
POPSAnother Indication That Bush is a Sociopath There have been any number of indications that Bush is a sociopath. He does not seem to really be able to relate to the emotions, feelings or consequences of his actions. I sensed this the first time when I noticed that even when this president talks about war, death, blood and guts, he still keeps a hint of a smirk on his face. He also giggles at the most inappropriate occasions. And now here he was, meeting with grieving mothers of sons who were killed in his Iraq war. He hands them a memento of their visit in the form of a presidential coin, and then jokes with them about selling the coin on eBay. Another indication of not connecting with the feelings or emotions of others, or how his words effect those around him.
3
POPSThings Are Happening In The Bush Group This is very interesting. First, one of Bush's chief advisers and right-hand man is suddenly leaving the white house just one year before the end of the administration. Now, the government attorney, who is a friend of Karl Rove and was given that job after Gonzales fired the attorney who was doing a fine job according to all reports is quitting that post. I get the feeling that their are rats that have decided to leave a sinking ship. Me gets the feeling that the shit is gonna be hitting the fan long and hard in the administration over the next 6-12 months. Get ready!
6
POPSShades of Nixon's "I Am The President!" Back in the good ol' days of the 70s, comedian/impressionist David Frye released an album based on Richard Nixon entitled "I Am The President." I wonder if Georgie boy has ever heard of it. If so, perhaps Frye can sue him for plagiarism or something like that due to his latest outbursts.
4
POPSForever In Iraq Well, at least the administration is finally being honest. Tony Snow admitted today that Bush would like to see American troops remain in Iraq indefinitely. Perhaps longer than 50 years. I can't wait to hear what the Dems have to say about this.
2
POPSKyl is Gonna Hasten the Split Between Bush and the Republicans John Kyl's apparent change of heart on the immigration issue has strict conservatives up in arms. They look at his new stance as a betrayal to everything that is holy in the conservative play book on this particular subject. To say they were shocked would be to understate the general reaction. This could lead to a tremendous rift in the Republican party and stimulate even more of a desertion from Bush by his own party than originally predicted.
