POPSRacist jokes may have lasting impact on S.C. GOP When will the GOP, especially in the South, begin to realize that this kind of racist crap is losing them support across the country? Probably not in the foreseeable future, because this kind of racism seems to be in their DNA.

POPSKiddie Bigots It never fails to amaze me when parents decide it is proper to exploit their children for their own, adult, political purposes. These kids no nothing about the issue, but are being taught, by their own parents, that it is OK to be prejudiced against a particular minority group. This is even more pathetic since these kids are obviously members of a minority, themselves.

POPSMcDonald’s Caves In To Anti-Gay Group Demands Sadly, Mickey D has decided to permit a homophobic hate group dictate their corporate policies. Giving into these boycotts does nothing but encourage groups, such as this one, to continue to strong-arm major businesses to discriminate against gays and lesbians. I am hoping my GLBT friends will refuse to do any business with McDonalds.

POPSFormer Republican Senator Cafee Blasts a "two-faced" Bush Lincoln Chafee was a rare breed in the senate. A very Liberal Republican. The words Liberal, and Republican are just not thought of together. But this man put his belief in fairness for all, above political party ideology. He is one Republican I was sorry to see go in 2006.

POPSFormer Speaker Hastert's Congressional Seat is Lost to a Newbie Democrat! If this is any indication of things to come, and it is, the Republicans have a lot to worry about come November. This seat has been reliably Republican for decades. The Democrats didn't even contest a couple of elections in Hastert's area. Just two weeks ago it appeared the Democrat didn't stand a chance. I really believe the country has finally awakened to the facts that the Bush administration, and their supporters in Congress has taken the country in a terribly wrong and deadly direction.

POPSTroy's Poision Pill Please read this entire article in Mother Jones. It explains how a Bush appointee made it next to impossible for a person to sue a drug or pharmaceutical company, or medical device manufacturer for injuries sustained from use of their product. The claim goes that if the FDA approves a drug or device, that that should be the end of the line. As long as the product meets FDA approval, not judge or jury should be able to determine that said product could be responsible for someones injury. This is another example of how the Bush administration has put big business over human lives. Is it any wonder he demands preemptive immunity for communications companies, when he already had the FDA preempt medical liability lawsuits? This just gets disgustinger and disgustinger.

POPSAlec & baby brother Steve have differing views on samd-sex marriage Normally, celebrity opinions don't register with me. But in this case I find it interesting that two close brothers could be at such political odds. Alec, totally favours same-sex marriage while Steve quotes the bible. Oh well, at least the fundies can't talk about the incredible lack of morality in Hollywood. All they have to do is look towards little Stevie Baldwin.

POPSStupid Matthews Coded Comments Dov Levy is a well reputed writer who happens to be Jewish. Dov explains that he is disgusted by the coded language Chris Matthews has used on his show concerning the "Jewish vote." I know Chris is a big mouth, but I never noticed him sinking to this level of discourse and I am very disappointed.

POPSThe Political Filth Just Keeps On Coming Why is it that the U.S. seems to need to indulge in filthy, vicious and personally destructive political elections. I know that election campaigns are not necessarily the friendliest of circumstances, but why is it necessary for opponents to destroy each other while trying to prove that either one is the best person for the job? As an American I am disgusted by the vile crap that is propagated by opposing campaigns. And the public, although they keep saying they do not approve of these kinds of campaign tactics, continue to respond to them thus encouraging the campaigns to maintain this vicious style.

POPSAre The Iowa Caucuses a Fraud? This article from Truthdig kinda, sorta, explains how the caucuses work. The author insists the entire process is a promotional and marketing fraud. Read the entire article and then decide. Or, forget the whole thing and just go along for the ride.

POPSAll Hillary - All the Time With only two months until the Iowa caucuses, and Hillary still very much the formidable front runner, it will be a rare occurrence when her name is not mentioned or highlighted in all things relating to American politics. Can she stand the heat she has been expecting through many years of preparation for this contest?. The contest of her life? This is gonna be a fascinating race to watch, and as the song goes, "It's Only Just Begun."

POPSThe Lowest of the Low Every time I believe the right-wing nutters have reached their bottom when it comes to smear tactics, I find myself being shocked back into reality. Now we have Rush Limbaugh, Michellle Malkin, Mark Styne and Senator Mitch McConnell attacking a 12-year-old boy whose family made use of the schip program to help pay for the medical needs he and his sister incurred in a serious automobile accident. They accuse this child of lying for political reasons. This is the same kind of thing Limbaugh and his cronies did to Michael J. Fox when he campaigned for stem cell research, when Limbaugh claimed Mr. Fox was faking his symptoms in order to gain sympathy. Do these people have no feelings whatsoever? To smear a sick child for their own even sicker political purposes is beneath contempt.

POPSFailing Upward in the Bush Administration This article from Mother Jones lists a sampling of people who were unqualified for the positions they were given in the Bush administration, and who when failing at their jobs found themselves falling up into even better positions. I could only clip one, but I urge you to read the entire list.

POPSWar Drums Beating Towards Iran Some people think that Bush having named the IRGC as a terrorist organization is just a way of assuaging the hawks in the administration, but does not indicate any particular action is being planned against Iran. Others believe that this is an ill-conceived, reactionary action by Bush that now enables his reasoning for attacking Iran. I happen to personally believe the latter is true, but I hope I am wrong.

POPSElzabeth Edwards Gently Slams Coulter Elizabeth Edwards called into Chris Matthews' Hardball political talk show on MSNBC last night and politely asked her to stop using such personal attacks against her husband and other individuals she happens to disagree with. All Coulter could come up with is accusing Mrs. Edwards of telling Ann she should no longer write books and not talk at all. Even Chris Matthews jumped in and told Coulter that is not at all what Mrs. Edwards was suggesting. Coulter is a mean-spirited shrew who adds nothing positive to the ongoing political debate and discussion. She is purely a hatemongerer who, sadly, makes a lot of money off a public that pays good money to read her books due to the sensationalism involved. What an indictment about the priorities and values of some of our citizens.

POPSCould Bush Be Going Full CIrcle on Ira? This report from the Guardian appears to suggest that Mr. Bush is coming full circle on Iraq. He began with a sham attempt to get U.N. cooperation for his illegal war. He stymied the successful efforts of the U.N. arms inspectors and ordered them out because he was not happy that they were reporting that Saddam had been cooperating with them, and that there, thus far, was no indication there were the stores of weapons the U.S. was insisting were there. Now that Bush has been proven entirely wrong, and his lies have come back to haunt him as well as be responsible for the deaths of almost 3,500 of our youngest and finest young people, and the maiming of many thousands more, he is planning to go back to the U.N. to finagle a way to get them to take over his horrible and tragic mess. Oh how I long to see this man and his pals Cheney and Rumsfeld et al dragged in front of the Hague and tried for being the war criminals they are.

POPSIs It Possible That Bush is Sociopathic?
I am beginning to believe that George W. Bush is sociopathic. After knowing that the story of the Gonzalez bed side harassment of former Attorney General Ashcroft, and all the other evidence piling up against this man, Bush can actually stand there and say that Gonzalez has done nothing wrong and that the Democrats are engaged in political Theatre. This is a truly disturbing situation that goes way beyond politics as usual. I can understand if Bush tried to spin the bedside visit to Ashcroft, but to just ignore it as if it had never happened, and to say he did absolutely nothing wrong demonstrates a complete lack of comprehension between right and wrong. But then again, why am I surprised. This is a man who claims to always be on the side of life and yet officiated over the largest number of executions in any state, including that of a retarded man and a teenager. He also is capable of discussion the carnage in Iraq with a sickening smirk on his face. This man is terribly sick.

POPSHillary's Hands Are In The Same Deep Corporate Pockets This is a fairly lengthy article from The Nation, but it is a very worthwhile need. It, sadly, confirms my suspicion that there really is not major difference between the two political parties, because essentially, they are beholden to the same, deep, corporate politics as each other. As long as big business has the ability to influence election campaign with big bucks, it will never be a totally honest system. I believe the U.S. should do what Canada did several years ago. Ban ALL political contributions by big business. Without the constant chasing for corporate bucks, the people actually have a chance for their voice to be seriously listened to.

POPSBarack Hates Walmart. It Almost Makes Me Wanna Vote For Him Senator Obama supports unions and will not shop in Walmart. These are the kinds of things we have not heard from the Democratic party in a very long time. It is refreshing to see a candidate who is espousing some of the essential, core beliefs of the party. It is not enough to get me to vote for him yet, but I am not supporting anyone in particular at this time. However, I really enjoyed learning that he had made such statements.

POPSThe Bushies Pre-emptively attack Michael Moore
Once again the Bushies have decided to preemptively attack Michael Moore over his new documentary, SICKO. This is a film about the lack of adequate health care in the richest country in the world; the United States of America. Understand, that there are certain things Michael Moore does and says that do not meet with my applause, but when he is right he is right. The U.S. should be embarrassed by its lack of health care for every citizen of the country, no matter what their financial situation. Health care is not a privilege, it is a right. This is especially true in a country as vastly wealthy as the U.S. It is criminal for tens of millions of people to be out of the loop for proper medical care. The Bushies and the conservative Republicans will say or do anything to scare the citizenry away from national health care. But just ask the people of Canada what they think of their system, even with the problems it faces. It is not perfect. But no one is left uncared for.

POPSSo Much Promose Went Down the Iraq Drain Tony Blair began his career with tremendous promise, and for the most part, lived up to the hype and hope. But then came George Bush and his Iraq mis-adventure, which for some reason, he was able to convince the prime minister to support. Most of his country turned against Blair over Iraq and he has never been able to recover. Although his party won the last election, Mr. Blair's personal popularity sunk, and the public became obsessed with his need to go. Amazing how one's political fortunes can turn on one issue after so many years. I am sure he will thank Mr. Bush for the rest of his life, as he kicks his own ass for ever going along with his invasion of Iraq.

POPSWolfowitz Wants the World Bank to Drop Their Accusations So He Can Quit. This ego trip in a suit insists that he will not resign as head of the World Bank unless he is cleared of all charges against him. Of course, he then always has the choice to say, "Hey, no charges against me? Why should I quit?" This guy supported the Indonesian government before it collapsed in on itself because of corruption. He lied us into the Iraq War and he misused his political pay back job Bush gave him at the World Bank. Why doesn't this creep just crawl under the wood work with the rest of the roaches?

POPSMaliki Wants Us To Butt Out, As Long As We Are Willing to Bleed. I understand Prime Minister Malaki's desire to have his government make their own political decisions and take their own actions without outside interference. But, up 'til now his government has done precious little in moving forward with what they need to do politically. To say he will not tolerate U.S. influence is a bit rich, considering that he is perfectly willing to have our soldiers monitor HIS civil war, and to have them bleed, and die to assist his government in achieving their goals. He has to remember that as long as our men and women are being gravely injured and dying for his country, we do have the right to interfere to a certain point, if in fact, he is unable to bring his government to agreement.

POPSOh John, What Have Ye Done? This article was very difficult to clip effectively. It truly spells out the tragedy of John McCain's fall from grace. A man who sold his integrity and core beliefs when he smelled, up close, the strong, aroma of power. He betrayed his own family after they were slandered by the vicious Bush team in 2000 and literally wound up kissing his enemies cheeks in order to fall into the good graces of the Evangelical base. He further ensured this by snuggling up to all the Evangelical leaders who smeared and libeled him during the campaign because the taste of power was so strong. Once a man even I as a Liberal could proudly support, he is now just a shadow of a man who at one time exemplified political greatness. A tragedy, indeed. Please take the time to read the complete article.

POPSAre We Really Running A Terrific Training Camp for Al Qaeda? This little blurb makes sense to me. The experience the terrorists are getting fighting our incredibly strong military machine can't be bought with all the money in the world. It seems to be we cannot actually win this war in Iraq. Even the majority of our political leaders believe that much. But just think about all the training and experience we are affording our enemies so they can face it even more effectively elsewhere, such as Afghanistan, where we should have stayed to begin with. At least there we could possibly have done them real damage to their numbers and determination.

POPSHillary Cannot Decide if Being Gay is Immoral? Why can't Hillary repeat something she has already said? She tells the crowd at the Human Rights Campaign that she stands with "us" and that the door to her Senate office and eventually the White House is always open to the gay community. But when asked if she agrees with General Pace that homosexuality is immoral, she cannot see her way to stating a simple....NO! I get the feeling she wakes up in the morning, holds her index finger up in the air to see which way the political wind is blowing that day, and directs her statement likewise. This is not an honest candidate, but just more of the same.

POPSAre People Finally Starting to Smarten Up When It Comes to Coulter? Three papers so far are dropping her, and I understand she is beginning to lose invitations to speak to certain groups. Could this be the beginning of the end for this sick-o? This is the same thing that happened to "Dr." Laura. She went from being the be all and end all of conservative talk on hundreds of radio stations, and was given her own TV show. Then, because of her gay slander and hate-speech, her column was dropped from many papers, her TV show canceled, and her radio show is heard on only a fraction of the stations it used to be on in her hey day. As the old saying goes....every do has his/her day.

POPSHarry Belafonte, the Lion at 80 This article by Amy Goodman of Democracy Now sums up Mr. Belafonte's political agenda beautifully. I could only highlight a couple of paragraphs, but I urge you to read the entire piece about this outstanding gentleman.

POPSCoulter Thinks Gay Slurs are Funny I hate giving Anne Coulter any additional attention via this clip, but I just cannot fathom how some of these so-called Conservatives can actually support her mean-spirited, immaturely vile comments. It seems to me that these same Conservatives have no problem blasting Michael Moore for example when they feel he is speaking irresponsibly, but with Coulter, they think she walks on water no matter how disgusting and personally insulting her comments. Is this just another example of political hypocrisy? If so, when does the voting public finally say they've had enough? In Canada, Coulter would be convicted of hate-speech.

POPSIt's That F-Word Again So the Conservatives don't like name-calling or slander. They want to raise the campaign to a higher level.....oops, that's the Liberal's line. It seems like some Conservatives really like to roll around in the mud where they are most comfortable.

POPSWe Deserve to Be Robbed Matt Taibbi's article is absolutely right on the mark. Unfortunately I found it impossible to clip in a way that would bring out the important points he makes to their fullest extent. Please read the entire piece at the link above. It certainly will have you thinking about where the priorities of country are leading us, and make you wonder if we really do not deserve to be ripped off as Matt says.

POPSAn Interesting Question of Values As this complete article points out, in general, people in the U.S. are far more concerned with images or discussions of sexual mattters as sources of indecent corruption. And yet, torture and killing is displayed, discussed and at times praised as being heroic and a sign of strength. When I first read this brief piece I thought it was a bit of a stretch, but after giving it a bit more thought, I realize it made an important observation about some of our screwed-up priorities.

POPSMcCain Spins Again I used to have great respect for John McCain, but sadly that respect has been greatly diminished at this point. Instead of continuing to be a man of integrity, and perpetuating his "straight talk express" he has done complete reversals on his stands and comments. After blasting the ads and disgusting accusations the media people for the Bush campaign were guilty of, he now says they are good people, and hires them for his own presidential campaign. It says to me that Mr. Straight Talk is willing to get into the same disgusting sewer he complained the other side was in previously. He was the guy who wouldn't say or do just anything to get elected. Guess again.

POPSAnother Tribute to the Late Great, Molly I loved Molly, and I will miss her greatly. Tributes are pouring into the media of all kinds, and every word, whether spoken, printed or heard is absolutely necessary. Her words brought us great insight, humour, understanding and courage. She deserves as many words of praises and appreciation as she wrote for us.
