POPSIsrael's Gaza Blockade is "Collective Punishment" This situation is frustrating and insane. Collective punishment is illegal under all international law, and yet whenever anyone confronts the Israeli government with this fact, they are accused of being anti-Israel and/or an anti-Semite. As a Jew, I am very proud of all Israel has accomplished, and I yearn to see that tiny country live in peace with its neighbours. I do not fault Israel entirely for the situation that exists between them and the Palestinians. There is much fault and provocation to be found on both sides. While it is true that Hamas attacks Israeli towns with rockets, which must be stopped, there are constant attacks against Palestinians by Jewish settlers. And the story goes on and on. But collectively punishing an entire nation of people because of the actions of a few is quite simply, inhumane, and the world should condemn these actions by the Israeli government.

POPSWill Obama Make A Difference Where it Counts? I was reluctant to clip this piece because, in a sense, it is not really fair to pin this attitude squarely on the shoulders of Senator Obama, since every other candidate for president expresses a similar point-of-view. But I am concerned overall, that our basic policy towards Israel is unquestioning loyalty and support of a financial, political and military kind. While I do support Israel's right to exist in peace with its neighbours, I do not believe that everything Israel does is fine, and that their actions against the Palestinians are at times brutal and unfeeling. It does not seem to me that the U.S. can be considered a legitimate, unbiased participant in peace talks, if at the same time they are pouring millions of dollars into Israel's military as well as its ability to continue its occupation of the Palestinians. AIPAC has far too much influence on American politicians as does not speak for the majority of U.S. Jews.

POPSPeace Talks To Begin As Illegal Settlements Continue to Grow I personally do not understand how peace talks between Israel and the Palestinians can be fruitful as long as illegal settlements continue to expand, and new settlements are developed. Until Israel decides to stop construction and expansion on these settlements, there will no reason for the Palestinians to really trust the intent of the Israeli government.

POPSI Watch Al Jazeera English....Do You? It is virtually impossible to subscribe to the new Al Jazeera in the U.S or Canada. Many people in these countries, when they hear the words Al Jazeera, they immediately think of an Arab news channel that takes the side of terrorists in their reporting, and support Osama Bin Laden. They believe it spews anti-American and anti-Israel rhetoric 24/7. But I subscribe to it via Jump TV online, and it is absolutely nothing at all like that. Al Jazeera has some of the best electronic and newspaper journalists in the world working for them. Their production values are A+ and the news, although presented from a different perspective, is in no way anti-American or anti-Israel, and treats all reports in a reasonable even-handed manner. I urge people to go to www.jumptv.com and give Al Jazeera English a try. I think you will find your horizons expanding just a bit more.

POPSRobert Fisk Tries To Come To Terms With Blair's New Job Robert Fisk apparently had the same reaction I had when first hearing the news of Tony Blair's new position as envoy to the middle east. The entire commentary speaks for itself and needs no further explanation from me. It is difficult to clip a commentary, so I urge all interested party to go to the original piece and read it in its entirety.

POPSAn Economy Built on Fear and Occupation It seems that the occupation of Gaza and the West Bank over the years, especially since 9/11 have nurtured the boom of a new industry based on fear and occupation. Gaza and the West Bank are but mere laboratories for security measure and products that can and are being exported throughout the world. The client states know they work effectively, because Israel has proven so by submitting the Palestinians to the pre-market laboratory testing.

POPSAN Excellent Article Debunking the Muth of the "New Anti-Semitism As a Jewish man who spends a great deal of his time writing about and promoting Jewish culture, lifestyle and politics on the Web, I have become particularly incensed by the attempt of AIPAC and other right-wing lobbyist of branding anyone who criticizes Israel as being anti-Semitic and anti-Israel. It is a false allegation that is doing great harm to the Jewish community.

POPSGeneral Wesley Clark Joins Democrat anti-Semitic Wing
I clipped this article as an appalling example of the kind of extremist rhetoric that is being perpetuated by some right-wing political groups. Calling Carter an anti-Semite because of the title of his new book, and do not be fooled, the vitriol is based mostly on the use of the word "Apartheid" in the title, is totally dishonorable and disgusting. Now, trying to tag Wesley Clark as being anti-Semitic, and using his friendship with President Carter as a prime example of his anti-Semitism in a new low in all of this crap. As the editor of an online magazine promoting Jewish culture and lifestyle on the Web, I have no use for people who use criticism of Israel as a determining factor of a person's overall feelings about Jews. It is due to the efforts of AIPAC and other right-wing organizations that American Jews especially are being led to believe that only someone who is anti-Semitic would ever criticize Israel. I for one criticize Israel at times, and I am no anti-Semite.

POPSAn Honest Man Imagine a leader of Yad Vashem actually taking such a forthright and honest position on this matter. Of course, not all settlers treat their Palestinian neighbours with such cruel contempt, but enough of them do to prove his point. As a gay man who happens to be Jewish, I believe that Jews must have a special sensitivity towards our treatment of other minority or ethnic groups. We know full well how dangerous such behaviour can be. The Holocaust could never have happened if the people in the street were not encouraged to treat the Jews with this kind of contempt leading up to those dark days of history. I have been exposed to another brand of hateful conduct directed at me for being gay, which also adds to my extreme sensitivity to this subject.
