POPSChutzpah, With a Capital "CH" Can you believe the audacity of McCain? First he manipulates Obama into taking his trip to Iraq and Afghanistan, which also resulted in a successful European tour. When that worked out too well for Obama, McCain declared that his opponent was being presumptuous, and acting as if was already president of the United States. Now that Russia has stormed into Georgia, McCain decides to send Lieberman and Graham to Tblisi to try to work something out. On what authority will the traitor Lieberman, and Howdy Doody Graham discuss anything of substance, with any officials in Georgia? On top of which, Condie Rice, Madam Secretary herself, is on her way to Georgia to assess the situation. She, at the very least, speaks for the president. For whom do these two McCain puppets speak?

POPSA Verb Brief History of Mugabe This is a very brief article from Time Magazine, which I urge all of you to read. I found it difficult to clip because every word of this short article is relevant. It is hard to understand how the U.S. or any other country can stand to allow this monster to continue to hold onto power of these poor defenseless people. Oh yeah! I forgot. The people of Zimbabwe do not have oil under their feet, as do the people of Iraq.

POPSAverting our gaze from U.S. cruelty This article examines the depravity with which the Bush adminsitration has conducted itself since 9/11. It asks some very important questions. But the biggest question to me is why the hell is Bush and his henchmen not being tried for war crimes?

POPSPresident Bush's Clout in the Middle East is Going, Going, GONE! Georgie W. Bush, the lame, lame-duck guy temporarily occupying the Oval Office has no clout in the Middle East, or anywhere else in the world of foreign policy. His credibility is shot. His allies are few, and most of the world is counting the days until he shakes hands with his replacement at the new president's inauguration in January. The world is waiting to take its collective sigh of relief on the winter morning, when the war criminal in chief finally bid farewell, and hopefully gets dragged to the Hague where he will be tried for war crimes. Oh well, I can dream, can't I?

POPSPetraeus to Head Centcom This scares me a bit. Fallon is leaving because of his differences with Bush on his Iran policies. Bush and his neo-cons, including Republican candidate McCain are proponents of military action against Iran. Petraeus also agrees with a tough Iran policy. It is too convenient for my comfort to know that months before Bush is finally to leave office, he is ridding himself of a general who does not favour his Iran policy with one who does. To me this stinks of the probability of war with Iran before the end of the Bush administration, and passing it on to the next president to deal with.

POPSThe Story of the Bhutto Assassination Keeps A'changin' All al Qaeda all the time is what the new slogan is in Pakistan whenever some kind of untoward attack occurs. The Bushies actually encourage that kind of talk because they too like to make boogie men out of those bastards all too often. I have no love for them either, but let's face it, this one group does not commit every single attack in the world, as much as some people would have us believe. All that being said, even the U.S. is question the Musharraf government's every changing story of the circumstances surrounding Ms. Bhutto's murder. Something truly stinks there, and I do not trust nor believe Musharraf about much of anything he says. Too bad we propped him up when we did. But then again, we also propped up the Shah, and our biggest hero, Saddam Hussein. Need I say more? :-)

POPSWill Obama Make A Difference Where it Counts? I was reluctant to clip this piece because, in a sense, it is not really fair to pin this attitude squarely on the shoulders of Senator Obama, since every other candidate for president expresses a similar point-of-view. But I am concerned overall, that our basic policy towards Israel is unquestioning loyalty and support of a financial, political and military kind. While I do support Israel's right to exist in peace with its neighbours, I do not believe that everything Israel does is fine, and that their actions against the Palestinians are at times brutal and unfeeling. It does not seem to me that the U.S. can be considered a legitimate, unbiased participant in peace talks, if at the same time they are pouring millions of dollars into Israel's military as well as its ability to continue its occupation of the Palestinians. AIPAC has far too much influence on American politicians as does not speak for the majority of U.S. Jews.

POPSThe Bhutto Murder is Being Exploited by Bush....Surprise! "President" Bush is once again trying to blame to good vs evil forces in the name of Islamic and Muslim terrorists for the murder of Benazir Bhutto. He is so simplistic in his accusations in the hope that thinking people will not look beyond the rhetoric and investigate the situation within the Pakistani government and its leader Pervez Musharraf. I urge you to read this entire piece, it is not long, and see how Robert Fisk looks at the situation.

POPSRumsfeld Hit With Torture Suit..It's About Damn Time It's good to know that some people really do care that Rumsfeld has been getting away with murder, or at the very least, torture. No one in the U.S. has the guts to sue this man, or charge him with the crimes he openly committed. It has taken a group in France to launch this action. Let's hope it sticks, but I really have my doubts. In my opinion, it is the responsibility of the United States to charge and try this criminal on our own soil.

POPSTurkey is Not Having A Gay Ol' Time Turkey is not having a great time lately. The Armenian genocide declaration is pissing them off, their Parliament has given the okay for an invasion of Iraq, and now their EU membership application is being threatened because of their closing of a major gay organization's office. Who knows? If they keep this up, America might have to ban them from the Thanksgiving Day table.

POPSAustralian Government Believes Gay Gouples are Not Equal How a governing party whose leader claims that gay couples are not equal to heterosexual couples for the purpose of medical care, taxes, inheritance etc. can call itself Liberal, is totally beyond my comprehension. Stuff like this, and the attitudes of the government in my home country, the U.S. reinforces my pride of being a permanent resident of Canada. It isn't anywhere near perfect, but when it comes to social issues, such as equality and health care, it's the best.

POPSMugabe Claims He Is A Victim President Robert Mugabe has turned Zimbabwe into a hell hole for most of its inhabitants. He has run murderous rule over his minions and is considered by many to be a far worse dictator than Saddam Hussein could ever dream of being. Now, this guy is claiming to be a victim of Western and local opponents who are trying to end his rule. Poor guy. I think maybe the two presidents, Bush and Mugabe should get together and cry on each others shoulders over the fact that they are so misunderstood. I'll volunteer to hold the towel.

POPSI Watch Al Jazeera English....Do You? It is virtually impossible to subscribe to the new Al Jazeera in the U.S or Canada. Many people in these countries, when they hear the words Al Jazeera, they immediately think of an Arab news channel that takes the side of terrorists in their reporting, and support Osama Bin Laden. They believe it spews anti-American and anti-Israel rhetoric 24/7. But I subscribe to it via Jump TV online, and it is absolutely nothing at all like that. Al Jazeera has some of the best electronic and newspaper journalists in the world working for them. Their production values are A+ and the news, although presented from a different perspective, is in no way anti-American or anti-Israel, and treats all reports in a reasonable even-handed manner. I urge people to go to www.jumptv.com and give Al Jazeera English a try. I think you will find your horizons expanding just a bit more.

POPSRobert Fisk Tries To Come To Terms With Blair's New Job Robert Fisk apparently had the same reaction I had when first hearing the news of Tony Blair's new position as envoy to the middle east. The entire commentary speaks for itself and needs no further explanation from me. It is difficult to clip a commentary, so I urge all interested party to go to the original piece and read it in its entirety.

POPSThe Secret Prisons are Not Secret Any Longer After all the denials by Bush and his murderous cohorts, the truth is finally out. I really have nothing further to say about this, because the entire matter is way beneath the dignity and founding beliefs of our nation. Bush and company should hang their heads in disgrace.

POPSCanada's Government Learns From the Bushies The Harper government has long been referred to as Bush's shadow puppets, and now, once again, they are showing just how well they are learning from the neo-con's book of tricks. First they denied any documents or reports about potential prisoner abuse in Afghanistan did not exist. Then, when they were leaked out, they had them redacted for national security purposes. Now that the redactions have been seen through, it appears as if they were just trying to cover their lying asses. Such good students they have turned out to be.

POPSSo Much Promose Went Down the Iraq Drain Tony Blair began his career with tremendous promise, and for the most part, lived up to the hype and hope. But then came George Bush and his Iraq mis-adventure, which for some reason, he was able to convince the prime minister to support. Most of his country turned against Blair over Iraq and he has never been able to recover. Although his party won the last election, Mr. Blair's personal popularity sunk, and the public became obsessed with his need to go. Amazing how one's political fortunes can turn on one issue after so many years. I am sure he will thank Mr. Bush for the rest of his life, as he kicks his own ass for ever going along with his invasion of Iraq.

POPSSome Leaders Will Do Anything To Avoid Criticism It's time for the U.N. to move in the direction of getting rid of these laws that are incompatible with its own declarations. Political censorship never leads to good things. Imagine if we had these kinds of laws in effect in the U.S. or Canada. As it is, the media is too willing to censor itself.

POPSW.House slams planned Syria trip by House speaker Ms. Pelosi is going to Syria with a message from Israel's prime minister as well with the intention of "breaking the ice" with President Assad. The Iraq Study Group strongly recommended such outreach to Iraq's neighbours as a way of including them in the development of ideas and strategies to bring a permanent end to the civil war raging in Iraq since our invasion. There is no reason NOT to meet with Syria other than total stubbornness, which of course the Bush administration is noted for. No one expects Speaker Pelosi to broker deals or make promises to President Assad. This is simply a fact finding and outreach activity, which should be applauded. It takes no particular talent to talk with our friends, but it takes leadership to talk with those who disagree with us.

POPSHillary Has Convinced Me: I shall Look Elsewhere Hillary appears to be adopting a very Bush-like attitude towards potential voters. Rather than trying to convince voters why they should vote for her, she seems to be saying if you don't like what I say, well then, go look elsewhere. Such haughty arrogance! I am also very concerned that Senator Clinton is not stressing diplomacy towards fixing the Iran situation. Rather she is intimating a very militaristic attitude. I also get the impression she too, like so many others in congress, is cozying up to AIPAC and catering to their belief that military might against Israel's enemies is the only way to go. This is scary to me. All in all, I think the Senator has already convinced me to take her advice, and look elsewhere. Richardson anyone?

POPSAn Interesting Question of Values As this complete article points out, in general, people in the U.S. are far more concerned with images or discussions of sexual mattters as sources of indecent corruption. And yet, torture and killing is displayed, discussed and at times praised as being heroic and a sign of strength. When I first read this brief piece I thought it was a bit of a stretch, but after giving it a bit more thought, I realize it made an important observation about some of our screwed-up priorities.

POPSHillary Tells AIPAC-Iran Is A Threat Hillary Clinton is sounding more like a hawk catering to her audience at AIPAC will not take attacking Iran off the table. She really wants things every which way. When she speaks to liberal or centrist groups she condemns the Iraq war. But when she speaks to conservative and hawkish groups such as AIPAC, she spreads her hawk wings for all to see. I really wanted to support her for president, but she is making it very difficult for me. She has still not said she regrets her decision to vote to give Bush the OK to attack Iraq. She says she wants to end politics as usual, and then goes about doing the usual politics.

POPSOur Iraqi Friends Have No Trouble Killing Gays This is a very disturbing story about how gay people are treated under the law in Iraq, as well as how militias will simply just kill them. Families too, will kill gay children or siblings as "honour killings." It makes my blood run cold that we consider this a nascent democracy, that is already starting off with serious human rights problems. Why is the U.S. not making any noise about this issue. Are gays, once again, considered disposable and not really worth making an issue of? I realize a war is going on, but the U.S. should not simply ignore the cold blooded murder or torture of people based on the sexual orientation.

POPSBush Worse Than Nixon-Bernstein Bernstein rightfully expresses that Bush has done far more harm to the country and the world than Nixon. As the old bumper sticker says "Nobody died at Watergate." This administration has trampled over our constitution in the most dangerous and murderous way. His lies have cost hundreds of thousands of deaths, not the least being over 3,00, thus far, of our youngest and finest men and women. Of those who serve and did not die, many of them are without one or more limbs, lost their sight and hearing, or suffered permanent brain damage. All in the name of neo-Conservatism of the most militaristic kind. I am grateful that Jay Rockefeller is finally re-opening the hearings of how the White House manipulated the intelligence leading up to the Iraq invasion. Pat Roberts, the Republican chairman, first postponed the investigation until after the 2004 election and then dropped it altogether. This could be the equivalent of the Nixon tapes in revelations.
