An Embarrassed Canadian/American
zasel
by zasel  12-12-2007    3
As an American living in Canada, I am embarrassed by both of my countries for working in such an obstructionist fashion to sabotage the climate change conferences they attend. While it is true the former Liberal government made a lot of promises it did not keep, nor was it able to meet its Kyoto commitments, at least they recognized the problem. Finally, when Stephane Dion was made the minister of the environment, he started to do some marvelous work, but the government fell soon thereafter, not really giving him the time to make a difference and to get his plans in place. All that time, the Conservatives in opposition voted down every environmental bill, and referred to the Kyoto protocol as a "Socialist plot." Of course, now that the Canadian public has caught on to this issue, they are pretending to care while the constantly point to the Liberal's inaction rather than actually taking action to work with other countries to get plans moving. What a shame and a fraud.

Pouring Your Money Down Your Throat

Pepsi has been forced to finally admit it uses the same tap water you and I can get virtually for free, and charges $1.49 a bottle for it. Let's not even mention what all those plastic bottles due to the environment, but we are simply drinking our own money. I have to wonder if it should even be legal for a company to take something that is essentially public property, and label it as their own, and make a humongous profit doing so.

Rachel Carson Declared a Hysteric by a Republican Nut Case

What small minded, myopic and mean-spirited gall to block an honour for a person such as Rachel Carson for what are purely his own political beliefs. This woman's work went beyond politics and opened the eyes of the world to the danger of ignoring our environment. Shame on Senator Coburn.

The Hero Mayor of 9/11 is Slowly Being Unmasked
zasel
by zasel  5-22-2007    4
Mr. Giuliani is always willing to take bows for being the great hero of 9/11, but as time passes and certainly in the full light of the upcoming presidential election campaign, the truth about "America's Mayor" will come to the fore and the country will see what a card carrying phony this guy really is. Just look at the people with whom he is associated. Just one example; Bernie Kerick. Need I say more?

Giuliani's Heroic Shine is Going to Pale Very Soon
zasel
by zasel  5-14-2007    2
My bet is that Mr. Giuliani's 9/11/ hero status is going to go down very quickly in the rest of the county once the full details of his mismanagement of the entire crisis is exposed. He has been shamelessly taking bows and blowing kisses to the crowds as SuperMayor, but when the facts are actually known, he will sink like a stone. He ran New York City like a fascist dictator during his 8 years in office, and was reviled by most New Yorkers for the way he treated minorities and allowed the police to have a free hand even when abuse was alleged and then proven. He actually excused acts of brutality in the name of law and order. My friend, before you consider voting for Mr. Giuliani, please learn as much as you can about him. You might change your mind.

It Seems the Schools in England Are A Bit More Open-Minded

After hearing how some schools in the U.S. have refused to show Gore's important film because of its "political statement" it's refreshing and reassuring to know that in other parts of the world this issue is being taken more seriously.

Canada's Prime Minister Plays Dirty With Clean Air
zasel
by zasel  1-31-2007
Prime Minister Harper has laughed at the environment as an important issue for years. As this letter shows, he considers Kyoto as well as any real concern for environmental problems as some sort of socialist plot. Now, Canadians have decided the environment is their number one concern, and the new leader of the Liberal Party is a certified environmentalist. Harper is running TV ads, outside of any political election campaign, trying to smear the Liberal leader, Stephane Dion as a phony to the cause. He is using dirty tricks out of desperation, and it is my sincere expectation that the Canadian voters will see right through his shenanigans and throw these bums out in the next election. We won't even talk about Harper's social conservatism for the moment.
