POPSRacist jokes may have lasting impact on S.C. GOP When will the GOP, especially in the South, begin to realize that this kind of racist crap is losing them support across the country? Probably not in the foreseeable future, because this kind of racism seems to be in their DNA.

POPSOutcry on Federal Same-Sex Benefits Mixed feelings on this one kids. Obama has been very reluctant to keep his promises to the LGBT community. He has kicked DADT to the back burner, and there is no indication of when he will begin the process of repealing DOMA. The natives are restless. I am still taking a wait and see attitude, and I do have fairly high hopes.......for now.

POPSAn Inaugural Dream? ‘Pinch Me,’ She Says What a wonderful treat for people who often feel so left-out of celebrations, festivities and being part of the general public. As a person who uses a wheelchair, and know how difficult it can be to participate in some of life's more enjoyable events. It makes me feel very good to know these women will have the opportunity of witnessing history in the making.

POPSMarriage bill to be filed in Maine Another Eastern state is trying to legalize same-sex marriage. Naturally the bigots in the area are threatening all kinds of legal action including a Constitutional amendment to enshrine discrimination as part of their state's bedrock.

POPSGay bishop to kick off Inauguration events It doesn't totally erase the fact that Rick Warren will be doing the invocation and the actual inauguration, but this is at least an important acknowledgment of the new president's support of the LGBT community.

POPSWelcome to the World, Baby Palin (Oops, I Mean Johnston) I don't generally take any pleasure in the misfortune of others, but these people seem to revel in their trashiness. Somehow, Sarah wants to convince America that her family is the quintessential American family, and everyone else is just plain un-American. Thank you John McCain for putting "Country First" and losing this last presidential election and sparing the country such illustrious role models of how not to live our lives.

POPSAdd Up the Damage Bob Herbert, in this most excellent OP-ED summarizes why we must not permit George W. Bush to silently slip out of town. Read his entire commentary and see if you do not agree.

POPSJudge Removes Child From Lesbian Parents This is disgusting, through and through. These women were good enough to be the adopted parents of a 12-year-old child, and good enough to be responsible for this drug addicted infant when relatives could not be found, but now, for purely discriminatory and prejudiced reasons, this judge wants to take this child out of a loving home. Shame!

POPSThinking About Fags A wonderful tongue-in-cheek article about a child's and young adults mis-perceptions of homosexual men. I wish commentaries such as this were around when I was growing up in the 50s and 60s.

POPSTV Guide Hits the Skids As a child born around the same time as television, I grew up with TV Guide as being my daily bible of all kinds of magic stuff on the tube. Every Sept, I would rush to the store to pick-up the Fall Preview Issue to research the brand new shows that would be premiering for the new season. Who'da thunk that 55 years later, the entire enterprise would be sold for a buck, with only a prayer that it will remain in print much longer? I found this article interesting and in a sense, nostalgic and decided to share it with my ClipMarks friends.

POPSTexas Time Warp? State Criticized for Mental Care Another shameful example of incompetence when it comes to treating the less advantaged in the state of Texas. The state hospital system has been reviled for decades, and more and more of them are closing their doors or being retrofitted for other purposes. It is amazing to me that Texas is still nurturing this archaic and inhuman method of warehousing the mentally ill.

POPSRosie O'Donnell Attempts to Bring Back Variety TV It's about time. Variety has been missing from our TVs for decades, and I for one have missed it. I wish Rosie lots of luck with her "audition" show Wednesday, with hopes that she will return on a weekly basis, along with other artists who are waiting in the wings for shows of their own.

POPSSean Hannity Losing Colmes After 12 years of having some kind of counterbalance to his ranting, Sean Hannity will be working along when Alan Colmes leaves the program at the end of December. I never watch the program since I consider Colmes to be kinda soft and squishy when it comes to defending Liberal values, but just thinking of giving Hannity free rein for an hour every night, causes a spasm in my colon.

POPSSpanish queen breaks silence - and upsets gay groups Although Spain has legalized same-sex marriage a few years ago, their aging monarch has decided she doesn't consider what gays do as marriage. She says it should be called differently. She also says being gay is nothing to celebrate or to be proud of. As one might guess, the gay rights organizations in her country are pissed-off royally.

POPSIn the Land of Queen Esther This is part one of a two part video about Sarah Palin and her sincere yet, in my view, scary religious beliefs. For anyone considering voting for the McCain/Palin ticket, watching this video might give you a bit more food for thought.

POPSObama's Aunt Found A little snippet I found in the Daily Beast, that I thought I would share with y'all. So much heavy stuff this week, that a little light and cheer can't hurt any of us.

POPSVatican calls for psych tests to weed out gays The Vatican is so deep into denial about their own problems, that once again they have decided to continue slandering gays in order to exonerate themselves of responsibility for their own unnatural beliefs.

POPSFrancis Fukuyama A notable strict Conservative explains why he is voting for Barack Obama as the next president of the United States.

POPSAn Actual McCain-Palin Robocall We have all heard about the mean-spirited and vicious robocalls the McCain-Palin campaign are inundating potential with in battleground states. But in case you have not actually heard one of these calls, here is your chance. And believe me, this is far from the worst of them.

POPSKiddie Bigots It never fails to amaze me when parents decide it is proper to exploit their children for their own, adult, political purposes. These kids no nothing about the issue, but are being taught, by their own parents, that it is OK to be prejudiced against a particular minority group. This is even more pathetic since these kids are obviously members of a minority, themselves.

POPSMore Antigay Remarks From Jerry Lewis Jerry Lewis has always been known to be a rather mean-spirited individual. He has made many misogynistic remarks, as well as anti-gay comments over the years, as well as other socially offensive actions and statements which are too numerous to go into right now. The problem is, that the older he gets, the more cantankerous he becomes. He was once largely panned by the press in Montreal when he insulted vilely a female journalist who did not post a particularly favourable review of his performance.

POPSWar Hero or War Criminal?
This article is written by Robert Richter, who was the CBS political director during the 1960's. He writes compellingly about a controversial issue that is rarely spoken about. Whether or not fighter bombers in the Viet Nam war should be charged as war criminals, due to their flagrant disregard of the Geneva Conventions that prohibit bombing of civilian areas. As it turns out, a documentary on the subject was done by a general back in the day, and CBS refused to show it, because they felt it was too hot. Now that Mr. McCain is running for president, he is holding up his position as a bombing pilot as heroic duty for which he should be honoured. But the facts have shown, that he and his colleagues, have killed many millions of Vietnamese civilians by their incessant bombing of civilian enclaves. If the tables were turned, and Vietnamese pilots were bombing civilian enclaves in the United States, when they were captured, as McCain was, they would have been tried as war criminals.

POPSMcCain Goes After Michelle ... This is just too much to be believed. I have nothing more to say. Just read the clip and weep or laugh. The choice is yours. Personally, I am weeping.

POPSMcDonald’s Caves In To Anti-Gay Group Demands Sadly, Mickey D has decided to permit a homophobic hate group dictate their corporate policies. Giving into these boycotts does nothing but encourage groups, such as this one, to continue to strong-arm major businesses to discriminate against gays and lesbians. I am hoping my GLBT friends will refuse to do any business with McDonalds.

POPSConnecticut Legalizes Same-Sex Marriage This is such great news. Little by little, the U.S. is beginning to catch up with Canada, and other countries who are finally realizing that in a democracy ALL men and women and equal. This should never be subject to social interpretation.

POPSElderly gays forging new alliances There are over 2.5 million gay seniors in the U.S. All of them have lived through the days when being gay meant facing discrimination, job loss, familial animosity, alienation of friends etc. But times have changed, and gay seniors have new recognition as important members of society. Sage, is a new organization, supported by AARP that helps gay seniors live the kind of lives to which they are entitled. Finally, elders who happen to be gay, can join us younger gays in taking our place in the new freedoms, being granted us in the ever expanding acceptance and tolerance of society. Things are far from perfect, but we are definitely getting there.

POPSFierce fight over Arizona anti-gay amendment Arizona failed to ban same-sex marriage in 2006, so now they are trying again. The religious right is out full-time trying to rev up the hatred of gays and lesbians in order to make sure we do not acquire the same civil rights every other citizen possesses. There is good reason to believe this vote will fail again, but just for the record, Senator McCain is fully in favour of this ban on gays having equal rights. Any gays out there planning to vote for McCain, puhleeze think again.

POPSPalin Is Ready? Please. Fareed Zakaria has written a terrific article in this week's Newsweek Magazine that, in my opinion is a must read. I really have nothing to add to Mr. Zakaria's comments, other than to say, that John McCain has proven himself to be a cynical, misogynistic, and narcissistic personality, that has no business being president. I question at this point, whether he even has the chops to be a senator any longer. He has twisted his positions into pretzel shape since be began running for president. He has sold his own beliefs down the river, and embraced policies and people that were anathema to him prior to his candidacy. Naming Mrs. Palin as his running mate however, is the ultimate cynical act, and I pray the country will see this man for what he has become, and resoundingly reject him at the polls on November 4th.

POPSCould Palin possibly leave the ticket? Joan Walsh, editor of Salon Magazine online, makes some very wisely observant points about the Palin candidacy, and what a sickeningly cynical choice it was for McCain to pick her as his running-mate.

POPSAhmadinejad accepts Israel's right to exist Iran's president finally opens himself to the possibility of recognizing Israel's right to exist, and no one reports on it. I am no fan of this bastard, but when he makes threatening statements about Israel, his words make headlines. But when he starts to soften his stance, his words are ignored. Is this because the media is afraid to report anything positive about this man? And who are they afraid of upsetting?

POPSChurch Gives Sanctuary to Gay Man and His Family Even down south.......waaaay down south, one can find bastions of welcome and support in Christian congregations. It both warmed my heart, and angered me, to read of the struggles this family had to endure, and yet showed the motivation, love, fortified and determination, to bring their children up in the religion they both cherished along with teaching them about understanding, compassion and the sanctity of true love.

POPSIn Conservative Nepal, a Tribune for the ‘Third Gender’ Speaks Out This is a terrific story about a youngish man, who has decided to buck the ultra-Conservative views of his country, Nepal, and its politics, and fight, ever so gently, for equal recognition of gays, lesbians, transgendered and other sexual minorities. I love stories like these. It gives me a much more positive outlook and the inherent fairness of the human race.
