Why I use Clipmarks
When I discover anything that may be of benefit I am moved to share it. My interest are quite varied and Clipmarks allows me the opportunity to share my many views, as culled from my readings, in an efficient, orderly and precise manner. The ability to take the best of what I read and weed out the extraneous.

This is also a lot of fun. I love reading, seeing what so many other people are entertained, amused and enlightened by. A great way to get to know how people are feeling and what they really care about.

"Each friend represents a world in us, a world not possibly born until they arrive, and it is only by this meeting that a new world is born."~ Anais Nin

November 12th Charter for Compassion
zalisan
by zalisan  11-7-2009
The Charter will proclaim a principle embraced by every faith, and by every moral code. It is often referred to as The Golden Rule. The Golden Rule requires that we use empathy -- moral imagination -- to put ourselves in others' shoes. We should act toward them as we would want them to act toward us. We should refuse, under any circumstance, to carry out actions which would cause them harm.

To get you started, here are some ideas from the “Peace One Day” website:- • Make peace with someone you have fallen out with. • Swim or cycle for your own peace of mind. • Bring your family and friends together for a meal. • Send peace cards and emails. • Organise some lunch boxes for homeless people. • Make peace with yourself. • Create or visit a peace garden. • Light a candle for peace. • Hold a few minutes of silence. • Write a prayer for world peace.

After a while you learn The subtle difference Between holding a hand And chaining a soul. And you learn That love doesn’t mean leaning And company doesn’t mean security. And you begin to learn That kisses aren’t compromise And presents aren’t promises. And you begin to accept your defeats With your head up and your eyes ahead With the grace of a woman or a man Not the grief of a child. And you learn to build all your loads on today Because tomorrow’s ground is too uncertain for plans And futures have a way of falling down in midflight. And after a while you learn That even sunshine burns if you ask too much. So you plant your own garden And decorate your own soul Instead of waiting for someone to buy you flowers. And you learn That you really can endure That you really are strong And you really do have worth. And you learn. And you learn. With every failure you learn. Anonymous

Legislation to Overhaul Rockefeller Drug Laws Moves Ahead Swiftly
zalisan
by zalisan  3-1-2009
“Returning discretion to judges is really the heart of where we want to go,” said Jeffrion L. Aubry, an assemblyman who represents Queens and has led efforts to overturn the statutes, known as the Rockefeller drug laws because Gov. Nelson A. Rockefeller made them a centerpiece of his agenda...“When we take away those mandatory minimums and restore judicial discretion, that’s when you can say Rockefeller is no longer there,...” Mr. Aubry said...But now Democratic leaders see an opportunity to take aim at the judicial underpinnings of the laws by untying the hands of judges, who are often bound to mandatory minimum sentences even for less serious drug crimes.

The World March for Peace and Nonviolence
zalisan
by zalisan  2-26-2009    2
Why? Because we can end world hunger with 10% of what is spent on arms. Because eliminating wars and violence means leaving human pre-history behind and taking a giant step forward in the evolution of our species. Because we are accompanied by the voices of all the war-torn generations that came before us. The echo of their voices still resounds throughout the world, wherever armed conflict leaves its sinister memorial to the dead, disappeared, disabled and displaced. Because a “world without wars” is an image that opens the future and seeks to become reality in every corner of the planet, as violence gives way to dialog. The moment has come for the voiceless to be heard! Out of agonizing and urgent need, millions of human beings are crying out for an end to wars and violence. We can make that happen by uniting all the forces of pacifism and active non-violence worldwide.

Consider all of those who have nothing compared to our least something. And if you should be moved to please blog, post videos, write letters, share with your friends and family the joy and freedom of peace in your life. Because in that moment you will have done a great deal more than some to help make peace a reality. HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Micro-Giving: A New Era in Fundraising

"...we're entering a new era in fundraising and perhaps other social/political causes. What's new? Virtual tribes -- networks of caring people with more commitment than cash. And that's what excites us about micro-giving: It takes so little. You might not have much to spare, but you've got a penny jar -- and we all know that if you reach in and remove a handful of change, you'll feel no pain. What's great about the new, frictionless online giving we're testing here is that, if you've got a good cause, you no longer need to spend a fortune on real-world marketing. Online, with word of mouth and simple technology, pennies can become serious money..."

YES WE CAN! YES WE MUST!
zalisan
by zalisan  11-5-2008
The new motto "YES WE CAN" now is followed by "YES WE MUST" I have seen this future present. I knew it was coming. But even that knowing paled to the reality that is. Hopes are high as are expectations. And usually with that comes a sense of trepidation, "What if...?" But to any who may, once the elation has subsided to just an overwhelming sense of joy, experience hesitation at the task at hand, I say to you one foot in front of the other, one breath at a time, good things came to those who waited. Keep that hope alive. Know that our future is in our capable hands as we demonstrated this past Tuesday. Stand together, hold each other up and continue being the wonderful you that you are. Yes, the challenges are many and difficult, but just look at what we have done. When the call came we rose to the occasion. We always have, we always will because... ..."YES WE CAN, YES WE MUST" ~peace, love, flan

Ongoing personal growth is the most important thing in life. Because we are born with a huge reservoir of potential.  From the film maker: “I chose the title, ‘Call + Response,’ because when an issue comes your way, you’re going to respond. Even if it’s inaction, it’s still a response. I think one of our greatest downfalls, as a people, is that we make excuses, particularly that we’re ‘too busy.' Well, I wanted to respond immediately; this issue just hit me." “A New York Times article first brought human slavery to my attention in 2003, just before I went on tour in Russia. When I was over there, I met several girls who were acting as translators. They told me how were getting the same kinds of offers that I’d read about. It was like 'Wow, now I’m seeing it, how do I find a way to connect immediately?'" “I realized that two things were needed: re-learning the meaning of slavery was one. We’ve relegated it to history, as though it no longer exists but when people are sold against their will it’s the same thing and alive now more than ever. The second thing is...

End poverty by 2015. This is the historic promise 189 world leaders made at the United Nations Millennium Summit in 2000 when they signed onto the Millennium Declaration and agreed to meet the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs). The MDGs are an eight-point road map with measurable targets and clear deadlines for improving the lives of the world’s poorest people. World leaders have agreed to achieve the MDGs by 2015.
