POPSFamed Geneticist Creating Life Form That Turns CO2 to Fuel Scientists put "suicide genes" into their living creations so that if they escape the lab, they can be triggered to kill themselves. Venter said he is also working on organisms that make vaccines for the flu and other illnesses. Suicide genes and vaccines mentioned in the same breath, sort of creeps me out a little.

POPSWill We Soon Be Extinct? The total for services provided to humanity by Mother Nature came to $2.9 trillion per year (another study concluded the total was $33 trillion) We are hopelessly indebted to and dependent on Mother Nature. Nothing in this world is free. The day will come, when we must pay the piper. Let's start reducing our "debt" now, before it's too late.

POPSGet Real in 2008 "We just can't take all this bad news, so to some degree you start to understand the 'let's fiddle while Rome is burning' attitude, which will only increase. "People will be eating more red meat, drinking, smoking. But the big repentance will come," she cautions. Just not now. "Look for that in 2009."

POPSAl Gore & The Blue Sky Theory I imagine the next piece of junk science propaganda nonsense this world class snake oil salesman will try peddling to a gullible public is that water is wet or war is bad. God help us all.

POPSMake Your Computer Carbon Neutral Click the "donate for free" button once a day to offset 1 lb of carbon daily. This estimate assumes you were on your computer for about 3-4 hours today. You can decrease your emissions by switching on “sleep” mode or turning your computer off if you plan to be away for any length of time. Okay, my computer is on way more than that, but a click a day is better than no click at all, I reckon. (PS) For those who give a sh**, errr... I mean click, below are a few of the other free "click-to-donate" sites. (Got appr. 30 more, so just ask.) I use a little app called DailyRotation (94 kb, no install) to do my daily rounds, so I don't forget anyone. The world need every bit of help it can get I reckon, so get to clickin' folks! .:) www.therainforestsite.com (6 buttons) www.ecologyfund.com (5 buttons) www.redjellyfish.com (2 buttons) www.tree4life.com/ingles/ingles.htm

POPSFuture Of War Will Go With The Flow "Water researchers, policymakers, negotiators, scientists and environmentalists on both sides of water conflict tend to be in agreement: Tension over water runs high but war on a global front is highly unlikely. These water experts are unique in the tendency to sidestep conflict in favor of compromise." I'm not so sure. Mankind doesn't seem to be too good on compromising when resources are limited (i.e. oil.) Why would we expect things be any different regarding water?

POPSClimate Change Plan Affordable If the extreme weather phenomena the world has been experiencing the last years is any indicator of what to expect in the future, then I think we're in for a rough road ahead, even if we do act now. Things aren't going to go back to "normal" anytime soon. Regardless of CO2 emissions, we no doubt still need to prepare ourselves for a very different future, than we had hoped.

POPSThinking Like Rats: Why Humans Fail To Act Tough words! I do think though, that Man's incredible ability to adapt to his surroundings is "enabling" him to be able to put up with an unfathomable amount of shit, before it really hits the fan...so to speak. (pollution, climate change, global hunger, overpopulation, war etc) Comfort zones are incredibly difficult to give up. I hope that changes...and soon!

POPSPartners in Crime I wonder if Afghanistan and Iraq consider themselves lucky countries too? As for climate change? It seems to me that Oz has been suffering quite a bit due to climate change with endless droughts and snow in Summer. Perhaps Oz should rethink it's butt-kissing attitude towards the US and think for itself for a change?

POPSRight Wing Americans are Getting What They Deserve Here's the last bit :) All I can say is that this is what you get for believing even for a moment what the US corporate media wants you to believe. The rest of us Bush haters are Bush haters for one reason and one reason only; we pay attention! So to my new former Bush supporting friends who seem to be suddenly surrounding me and telling me that I have been right all along: you can tell me I was right but after that shut the hell up because it is too late for forgiveness. From now on, just shut up and listen. Think about it! Yeah!! I just had to clip this. I just had to! .:D I'm just gonna have to take the s*** and excuses and apologetics the Bush supporters and neo-con clippers are gonna try to give me on this, but I don't care. It's most definitely worth it. This clip is for all my fellow "Bush-haters" Enjoy! I did!

POPSSnow? In Australia?!? More freakish weather...and not a snowflake in sight here where it should be. Here in the country where I live at the moment, we've only had below freezing temps two nights in ALL! Just read, that here it's been/is the hottest winter on record EVER! No global warming some say? Yeah right!! Tell it to the Easter Bunny!

POPSPolar Bears in Dire Straits Having to resort to cannibalism, polar bears may be becoming the first mammal to succume to climate change and loss of 100% loss of habitat.

POPSAustralian scientist's ideas to save the world And his ideas to reduce the population: The next most human way to reduce the population might be to put something in the water, a virus that would be specific to the human reproductive system and would make a substantial proportion of the population infertile. Perhaps a virus that would knock out the genes that produce certain hormones necessary for conception. The world's most affluent populations should be targeted first. According to the 2006 Living Planet Report, the six populations that have the biggest per capita ecological footprint live in the United Arab Emirates, the United States of America, Finland, Canada, Kuwait, and Australia.

POPS40-Foot Wall between US and Mexico Does anyone near the border have anymore info on this?!? Any truth to it? Sheesh... if it's true or even partially true, the whole article is probably one of the most frightening things I have read in a long time. Head for the hills everyone! :o)
