POPSYour Bi-Lingual Kitty "It’s kind of nice to think your kitty has gone to the effort to learn a second language to communicate with you. Sure, she did it mostly out of necessity, but also out of affection. She wouldn’t meow just for your attention if she didn’t enjoy a relationship with you."

POPSCute With Chris WARNING: Contains Cat Nudity. I forgot to clip this one. Lotion Makes You Slippery

POPSThe Healing Power of Dogs Integrative Cancer Therapies reported how ordinary house dogs could identify breast and lung cancer patients by smelling their breath. A University of Maine study is testing whether dogs can sniff out ovarian cancer.. Via the breath too, I hope! *LOL* Dogs rock, cats rule. Get a pet. It's good for you. :)

POPSHow To Make A $5 Dollar Burglar Alarm Great idea! The pause button came in useful here, but it's a good cheap idea. My cats know how to get into their food cupboard, the little buggers. Heh, heh, heh... they will NOT be pleased. Cookie jars came to mind too.... and fridges ... and to stop sleepwalkers... and to stop pesky little kids escaping out the back door when your eyes are turned for just one second! Godammit, get back here, ya little rug rats!! ....

POPSDeclawing - What You Need To Know Of all the "well-intentioned" things people do to their pets, this has always been the worst IMO. I have seen cats suffer tremendous lifelong chronic pain, after this barbaric surgery. Some even having to be put down after botched surgery. Another side effect is, that if a cat is "a scratcher", amputating their toes often turns them into biters instead. (Please don't pull all their teeth either!! *LOL*) Anyway...the whole problem here lies not in that cats have claws, it lies in people not providing the appropriate environment for the cat . A simple scratching post and a bit of education is all you need, to have a happy healthy non-destructive cat WITH all it's toes (and teeth). Cats live 3-dimensional lives, as apposed to dogs, who live in two. Being able to climb is essential for the well-being of a cat. Cats have toes and claws for a reason!! Please don't mutilate your pet, but get smart instead. Your cat will thank you for it, and so will I. :)

POPSNo! I think, the youngest member of my cat family thinks his name is No.

POPSOperant Conditioning And A Funny Story... My cats are conditioned to come when they hear church bells. They get their dinner every night at 6 when the church near by rings the sun down. If I need them to come, all I have to do is play Pink Floyd - High Hopes. They're all here in a flash. Bells are a good sound for conditioning cats, coz it travels far. :) Pink Floyd - High Hopes

POPSPardon All of the Turkeys If not pardon them, then at least pity them. I don't expect everyone to want to give up their Thanksgiving turkey, but please buy conscientiously. Please don't support the inhumane producers who treat the animals with such a cruelty, you would not believe. (Videos at the site for those who can stomach it.) Get a bird that has lived a good life, so you can enjoy your dinner with a good conscience. Happy Thanksgiving, folks. :)

POPSImmunize Your Children Or Go To Jail
I am adamantly opposed to any sort of mandatory, forced or imposed vaccination programs. I do NOT trust the pharmaceutical companies. Last time I was vaccinated, I was deathly sick for three days and thought I was going to die! Despite this, blood tests showed that I still hadn't developed the necessary amount of antibodies for the vaccine to be effective and I was advised to have the vaccination again! Yeah right!! In your dreams Dr. Death! *LOL* One of my cats is also extremely sensitive to vaccinations and gets SO sick too. Vaccinations and medicine are NOT one size fits all. No-one should be forced to have anything injected into them or their children (or pets.) I'll take my chances against the bugs any day, rather than being bumped off by the vaccination itself! If this were imposed upon me or my kids (or pets), they would be home schooled instantly or we would leave the state. End of story. There's a little video at the site, but it wouldn't clip.

POPSThe Cat Diary Today's story is about "blogging". Go the site and read the rest. The Big Owner used to have another cat, Chance, but he died (*sniff*) and now he reads from his new cat Mars' diary. They're just silly little stories about life and the world, as seen through the eyes of a cat, but they brighten my day. Kind of like Garfield. Anyway... enjoy. :) http://www.catdiary.com

POPSSpanking The Cat *LOL* Watch the cat's paws. He's so cute! (Weird, but cute!) It's amazing he wants it for so long!

POPSAlone In Life, Alone In Death "She would tell me, 'Buddy, I don't know what I would do without you.' Or she'd say, 'Sit down, Buddy, and stay awhile.' Aww, such a sad story. I think I read somewhere that in the western world, one in three people lives alone. That leaves a lot of room for loneliness or isolation. I'm not a big people-person myself. (Who would have thunk it? *LOL*) Anyway, some people prefer solitude and like it that way. Some suffer tremendously. How will you know, if you don't reach out? Don't let this happen to your neighbour (or their cats!). Rest in peace Mrs Ballard. (Would somebody nearby; neighbours, police, rspca, please get those cats picked up! What is wrong with people!? Isn't one sad death enough? Geeez. )

POPSClintons Dumped Socks! This says a lot about one's character IMO, or lack thereof. Where I come from, pets are family . Pets are *people*. You do not abandon them. They are not "things" you just toss away on a whim. Pets are "adoptions, not aquisitions." Watch out Hillary, there are lots of voting animal lovers out there. Wouldn't it be a thrill, if a cat got to influence who became president... or not? Yay, go Socks!! . "No pet left behind" Hillary!!

POPSBeing An Animal Rescue Worker "I cannot believe that the purpose of life is (merely) to be happy. I think the purpose of life is to be useful, to be honourable, to be compassionate. I think it is above all to matter, to count, to stand for something. To have it make some difference that you lived at all." - Leo Rosten "If you want others to be happy, practice compassion. If you want to be happy, practice compassion." - The Dalai Lama

POPSWhat Cats Know About War Read the rest at the source. In a place where we could do little else... the tally became a measure of one small thing we could do to favour life over death. Animals are often forgotten victims of war and disasters. Hats off to all who will spare a thought for the poor animals who get caught up in the miseries of mankind too. Good luck Scooter and family! .:)

POPSAnimal Disasters Oh my goodness. *LOL* Ugly does not even begin to describe what I just saw here. What is that thing that looks like a brain? A puppy?? Haha! Poor things... awww.

POPSDo Animals Go To Heaven? Heaven just would not fit the definition of heaven if my dearly beloved departed pets were not there to greet me one day if and when I ever get there myself. If animals don't go to heaven, then you may just as well send me to hell, so I at least can party on with all my friends. *LOL* A man brings food to a dog and the dog thinks: "He must be a God!" A man brings food to a cat and the cat thinks: " I must be a God!"

POPSWhy Aren't Humans Furry? ALL my babies are very furry and I think they are the most beautiful kids in the whole wide world! (Should I mention, they are all cats?) ;)

POPSKids are Depressing I am one of the happy people! I have cats instead! *LOL* Just kidding! (not really) but I know there are some people, who can suffer tremendously from a lot of "child-related" illnesses, varying from post-partem depression to stress to empty nest syndrome. This study is not new, but it surprised me nonetheless to read. I would actually have guessed the opposite was the case.

POPSPennsylvania Court Finds Animal Abuse Is Legal You tell me, if you don't think this constitutes animal abuse?!? I'm shocked and horrified at the "not-guilty" verdict. It's simply horrendous! A sickening verdict. Grrrr..... # birds overcrowded in wire cages so small, they cannot spread their wings, # hens left to suffer from untreated illnesses or injuries, # birds with their wings, legs, or feet entangled in the wires of cages, unable to access food or water, # injured or dying birds removed from their cages and left in the aisles without access to food or water, # birds impaled on the wires of the cages with many found already dead as a result of the painful immobilization, and # hens living in cages amongst decomposing bodies of other birds. “If these animals had been dogs or cats, there’s little doubt this case would have resulted in a conviction. There is a clear double standard here, and that hypocrisy is troubling.”
