For a while every time I saw my Senator, I would greet him with the same comment, "Hey Bernie, when are you going to do something about Monsanto?" Senator Bernie would shake his head and raise his hands in frustration. I often heard him say that no matter how bad you think things are in Washington, they are really much worse. While the Congress is distracted with growth hormones taken by sports figures, our farm animals are being abused with other hormones. Baseball players have a free choice. Cows don't. None of us have a choice. Not if Monsanto has anything to say about it and they do. Money talks.

POPSTens Of Millions Of Birds Disappearing Across North America I think this is happening all over the world, with all different kinds of animals and at an alarming rate. Where I live, there used to be flocks of thousands of sparrows every year. Not any more. Now, I'm lucky to see flocks of a hundred, usually the groups are in their tens only. POPSThe Star Of Muletide Spare a thought for the animals at Christmas time too. (And better yet, send a few bucks to an animal sanctuary.) Don't overfeed them with Christmas goodies. Don't give pets as gifts. Pets and people have to "fit" to each other. Go as a family to the sanctuary to pick the right pet that suits the lifestyle of your family (or let the pet pick you.) If your family wants a pet, wait till after Xmas, when things calm down. The stress of Christmas is not what a new pet needs. There will be many unwanted Christmas gift pets filling the sanctuaries after Xmas. Please think three times, before getting a cat or dog. They live a LONG time. Merry Christmas to all the clipper pets out there too. :)

POPSTaking Action For Animals. Farm animals often 'live' under such cruel and inhumane conditions, that it boggles the mind. For all those who care about their plight, here's a way to get smart on the issues. Unfortunately, farm animals are not *cute and cuddly* or good PR material like the koala, the tiger or the chimpanzee, so they are often forgotten and they suffer by the millions. If nothing else, think conscientiously when you shop. Where did those eggs come from? Does the chicken you bought have bruises or broken bones? How was the life of that veal steak, before it became a veal steak? Think and act and shop accordingly. This is about compassion. Please don't forget about these poor animals. And don't buy fur either!! (please) .;)

POPSPennsylvania Court Finds Animal Abuse Is Legal You tell me, if you don't think this constitutes animal abuse?!? I'm shocked and horrified at the "not-guilty" verdict. It's simply horrendous! A sickening verdict. Grrrr..... # birds overcrowded in wire cages so small, they cannot spread their wings, # hens left to suffer from untreated illnesses or injuries, # birds with their wings, legs, or feet entangled in the wires of cages, unable to access food or water, # injured or dying birds removed from their cages and left in the aisles without access to food or water, # birds impaled on the wires of the cages with many found already dead as a result of the painful immobilization, and # hens living in cages amongst decomposing bodies of other birds. “If these animals had been dogs or cats, there’s little doubt this case would have resulted in a conviction. There is a clear double standard here, and that hypocrisy is troubling.”
