Spitzer's parallax
tfarrow
by tfarrow  7-7-2007
Another NASA orbiting telescope, this one is in a larger orbit than the Hubble telescope. Using parallax , it gives astronomers "depth perception", making it easier to more accurately estimate the distance to far objects.

Astronomy Picture of the Day This short film is awesome. Truly an amazing vision. This really makes me regret not buying a telescope and all the accessories for photography when I could afford it. But observing vicariously is second best.

Games banned in UK for violence

It's about time some of these "games" that take violence to extremes are banned. The same thing needs to happen here in the US as well.

$54 Million Dollar Pants Law Suit Begins
tfarrow
by tfarrow  6-12-2007
This is not a "civil suit", this is criminal harassment and racketeering. This judge is obviously not capable of rational thought regarding his own actions; how then can he be trusted to sit as a judge? Disbarrment at a minimum is required in this case. Personally, I think that there must be a way to prosecute him for criminal mis-use of the US court system, harassment, or something else.

Conquer yourself. This is one of the most difficult tasks that I've ever attempted to take on. It is a continuing challenge. Someday I will succeed; I only hope that it is in this lifetime.

Paris Hilton out of prison for medical reasons
tfarrow
by tfarrow  6-7-2007    10
All that I can say is..... Unbelievable. If she really did have a VALID medical condition, it would have kept her out of jail in the first place. So much for ".. and justice for all" on an equal level. The perks of the "aristocracy"... If Paris were a young black male from the south side of Chicago, the jail sentence would have stood at the original sentence. disclaimer: I am not a young black male from the south side of Chicago, nor am I a communist, marxist, or any other political "-ist". I'm just a "regular guy".

Take a look in the mirror
tfarrow
by tfarrow  6-7-2007
I have to admit that this (looking in the mirror) can be difficult sometimes; at least it can be for me. Like many others, I've got some unpleasant "skeletons in my closet", but I am struggling to exorcise those demons. Recognizing our own past can make this short poem rather poignant.

Personal data found hidden in iTunes tracks - is this really a problem?
tfarrow
by tfarrow  6-5-2007
Some personal data is added to the music tracks that I purchase from iTunes. Yes, hearing about it like this is upsetting, but ultimately I don't really see a problem. After all, I'm not a "pirate", and won't be sharing my purchases. Not intentionally anyway.

Dam Threatens Ancient Buddhist Stone Carvings

Another case of modernism destroying history. I know nothing of politics, science, economy, etc., and I'm sure that this dam will be a major boon to the country of Pakistan and it's citizens, but the country's (and the world's) history needs to be saved, rather than destroyed.

84,000 reasons to visit Malaysia's biggest Buddhist show

If only I could travel. If only. This show looks to be a wonderful event. Jointly organized by 50 Buddhist societies nationwide, the festival will be the largest undertaking in the history of Malaysian Buddhism. A big electric Padal, a 40 foot mandala (an amazing amount of work!), a giant Buddha footprint, etc.
