POPSChevron: Will You Join Us? Don’t Be Stupid
It’s time to recognize Chevron for the hypocritical, phony, band-wagon-jumping, contemptible, lying, bastards they are. The con game they are manufacturing against America’s common sense to make us believe they care about what is happening to the environment and us while providing a lifeline for the oppressive and murderous Burmese regime is disgraceful. http://www.truthdig.com/report/item/20071002_chevrons_pipeline_is_the_burmese_regimes_lifeline/ They orchestrated a coup against the US House of Rep last year in the wake of the juntas crackdown on it’s citizens by arguing that if they didn’t maintain access to Burma’s rich gas fields then someone else will. And our fool reps, with dollar signs in their eyes instead of compassion in their hearts, bought it. This has only emboldened Chevron to pull that same wool over the publics eyes so they can stay in a business that enslaves indigents and props up a Fascist government all in the name of profit. Please, don't support the

POPSImpact of Factory Farms on Humans & Environment Many of the states with large numbers of factory farms have weak policies when it comes to pollution control and other issues. These factory farms have replaced the visions of what many people have of family farms taking their livestock to market. The treatment these animals receive is inhumane and it is adversely affecting humans and the environment. The author of the article wants us to start a petition or sign an existing one, and write to your government officials.

POPSDon’t Buy Our ‘dirty’ Crude It seems that developers of oilsands are still out of step with international efforts to curb greenhouse gas emissions and climate change. Developing the oilsands produces about three times as many emissions per barrel compared to conventional oil, while also gobbling up enormous amounts of natural gas and fresh water. Canada is clinging to the idea of making money from this ‘dirty oil’ just as the U.S. is clinging to the idea of making more money from ‘dirty coal’. Evidently they are not yet convinced that the continued pursuit of fossil fuels is a dead end and remains a grave danger to our environment. They are like junkies, they know they need to get off this ‘hard stuff’ and yet they are not convinced of the need for an alternative. They continue to spend millions on ads to ‘clean up’ the image of coal and oil instead of committing to the development of cleaner alternatives.

POPSAt Home with Nature I had to clip this because Amanda puts it into words so well. Perhaps more of us need to get into the back country and re-learn our appreciation of nature and what to offer and how our lives affect it.

POPSBush sneaks laws to undermine Obama Public health and safety be damned. Bush is paying back industry leaders for their support during his terms and he is still "leaving office with a clear conscience:. One rule will make it easier for coal companies to dump debris from strip mining into valleys and streams. Another will allow power companies to build coal-fired power stations nearer to national parks. Another will allow coal-fired stations to increase their emissions without installing new anti-pollution equipment. One lengthens the number of hours that truck drivers can drive without rest Another surrenders government control of rerouting the rail transport of hazardous materials around densely populated areas and gives it to the rail companies. A common theme is shifting regulation of industry from government to the industries themselves, essentially promoting self-regulation. And we have all seen how well that worked with the banking industry.

POPSFeel Like Getting In Touch with Your Feminine Side? I don’t know whether to take this seriously or not. It has a very SciFi feel to it. I can’t say that I have heard of stranger things happening but with all the chemicals we are exposed to every day of our lives I suppose a certain combination of them could trigger this. Still, I don’t know. I’d have to see a separate study come to the same conclusion before I believe it.

POPSProgress Toward Addressing Climate Change Fails Again
Are we really committed to combating climate change? We talk a great game. We seem to recognize that something must be done. But when it comes right down to it, there is very little action. The biggest polluters are of course industrialized nations, such as China, India, America, and Japan, who raise the loudest objections to pay more into the fund and consistently fail to reach agreements to make deeper emissions cuts. Understandably, developing nations are disappointed at their position and stubbornness. Everyone is paving a road of good intentions, but good intentions never get anything done. Cutting greenhouse gas emissions was never expected to be cheap or easy. It requires drastic changes in lifestyles for all of us, rich and poor alike. The time has come to actually commit to a plan. Industrialized nations, being the biggest polluters should bear the largest financial burden to ease the rest of world of their disproportionate suffering.

POPSBiogas offers benefit for transport & environment Unlike wind, solar or hydrogen, biogas capture has widely been seen as too small-scale for use in industrial-scale heat or electricity generation. As a transportation fuel, however, biogas has growing support. France, Sweden, Germany, Austria and India are all investing in methods of turning landfill gas into a useable alternative to fossil fuels. France has been running a biomethane-powered bus since 1994 and is planning an entirely clean public transportation system by 2011. 35% of food production in Japan and Britain, and 50% in the U.S. ends up as rotting garbage. This provides a plentiful supply of biogas and therefore a much better source than using food crops to power motor vehicles.

POPSCalendar of Climate Change 2009 banned from London Museum There's a link to the website in the post so you can see for yourself. It really is quite tame. It’s hard to imagine how either of these images could be considered offensive, especially compared to what children are exposed to on television, in movies, or even at the newsstand. While the museum argues that the calendar is not “on brand” because the naked bodies could be deemed offensive, its own human biology gallery contains a range of pictures of naked bodies and is widely visited by little English chaps. The purpose of the calendar is to bring awareness to out place in the environment not to prddle pornography.

POPSMarijuana could be the answer Would this be a sound ecological/financial answer to both questions? Of course, we would put a whole government bureacracy out of business and a lot of law enforcement types out of work, but hey, they could always become farmers. Talk about turning swords into plow shares.
