POPSYa'alon: Israel Must 'Consider Killing Ahmadinejad' "It is a misconception to think that the Arab-Israeli conflict is the most important in the Middle-East. The Shi'ite-Sunni schism is much bigger, the Persian-Arab divide is bigger, the struggle between national regimes and jihadism is much bigger," he was quoted as saying. "And I can't imagine the U.S. will want to share power in the Middle East with a nuclear-armed Iran." "I was chief of staff during Operation Iraqi Freedom and I was surprised the U.S. decided to go into Iraq instead of Iran," The Herald quoted him as saying. "Unfortunately, the American public didn't have the political stomach to go into Iran." A senior diplomatic official said it was "clear he didn't say this , because no one who aspires to a position of authority could say such a thing. People in positions of power do not threaten to kill others." http://www.jpost.com/servlet/Satellite?cid=1226404812179&pagename=JPost%2FJPArticle%2FShowFull

POPSRacists block charity event Click the link to the article and read the whole thing. This student association has turned the horrible concept of Political Correctness into the abominable concept of racism by cancelling a charity event on campus because they think it only affects white males. While they are incorrect about that assumption, it's atrocious that they would cancel an event based on the assumption that only white males suffer from it. This is flat-out racism, and they shouldn't get away with it, just because its racism against white males!

POPSSinister Plot To Bilk U.S. Taxpayers a $7.4 Trillion Success! It should be noted that the amount of money pledged is equivalent to $24,000 for every man, woman and child in the country. It’s nine times what the U.S. has spent so far on wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, according to Congressional Budget Office figures. It could pay off more than half the country’s mortgages.

POPSParalyzed Man Speaks Again Using Brain Implant So they knew his brain's speech centers were still functioning. They just needed a way to connect those speech centers to a speech synthesizer - an artificial mouth if you will. Researchers implanted a special kind of electrode in his brain, one that's "impregnated with neurotrophic factors" that encourage brain neurons to grow into and around the electrode. Essentially this electrode forms a very strong connection with brain neurons, which results in a strong signal that reliably comes from the same part of the patient's brain over time. Over a period of weeks, Guenther and his team worked to decode the signals coming from the man's brain. Eventually, he was able "to produce three vowel sounds with good accuracy," said Guenther. The man produces these sounds as quickly as he would normal speech, and Guenther added, "The long-term goal within five years is to have him use the speech brain–computer interface to produce words directly."

POPS10 Amazing clips from the life sciences 1. "Building Body Parts from Scratch Last week, regenerative medicine researchers announced that they have grown a new windpipe for a woman who was crippled by tuberculosis. Years ago, other scientists were able to make bladders, from scratch, and implant them in children with malformed urinary tracts. This video shows some amazing footage from two tissue engineering labs'.

POPSRare but Real: People Who Feel, Taste and Hear Color "If you ask synesthetes if they'd wish to be rid of it, they almost always say no. For them, it feels like that's what normal experience is like. To have that taken away would make them feel like they were being deprived of one sense." -- Simon Baron-Cohen, synesthesia researcher at the University of Cambridge

POPSEinstein's Relativity Theory Proven
So far so good, but here's where things get odd. Gluons have absolutely no mass, while the total mass of the quarks only represents 5% of the mass of the protons and neutrons. So, an explanation for the missing 95% of the mass had to be found. The experts discovered that the missing percentage of the mass derives from the energy resulting from the interactions and movements of the quarks and gluons. This basically states that mass and energy are equivalent, just like Einstein's theory indicated, and, even more: mass can be transmuted into energy and vice versa. Extrapolating on the basis of this equation, it can be calculated how much energy is obtained while converting specific amounts of mass. Sadly, this was also used as a ground for building the atomic bomb. "Until now, this has been a hypothesis," shared the National Center for Scientific Research (CNRS) in France in a press release, cited by Discovery. "It has now been corroborated for the first time."

POPSThe Boy With The Incredible Brain This is the breathtaking story of Daniel Tammet. A twenty-something with extraordinary mental abilities, Daniel is one of the world’s few savants. He can do calculations to 100 decimal places in his head, and learn a language in a week. This documentary follows Daniel as he travels to America to meet the scientists who are convinced he may hold the key to unlocking similar abilities in everyone.
