POPSAn Album of Indian Gods The picture of the Goddess Kali was the inspiration for the famous Rolling Stones logo, designed by John Pasche in 1971. It was shown to the artist by Mick Jagger because he was looking for something similar. Of course the result was pretty different, but also wonderful. Thanks again to knslyr , for introducing this awesome blog to us months ago. Since then, it has become one of my favourites.

POPSThe World According To Monsanto continues: Robin, a farmer’s daughter who has spent twenty-five years as an investigative journalist, uses the film to channel her outrage, resulting in the most comprehensive film about Monsanto’s crimes to date. She takes us from Anniston, Alabama, where Monsanto dumped one million pounds of PCBs into local waterways, to rural Paraguay, where Round-Up herbicide has caused illness and physical deformation in the children, and to India, where suicide is seen as a farmer’s only retreat from Monsanto.

POPSVandana Shiva - Third World Traveler Vandana Shiva (Hindi: वन्दना शिवा; b. November 5, 1952, Dehra Dun, Uttarakhand, India), is a physicist, environmental activist and author. Shiva, currently based in Delhi, is author of over 300 papers in leading scientific and technical journals. Shiva participated in the nonviolent Chipko movement during the 1970s. The movement, whose main participants were women, adopted the tactic of hugging trees to prevent their felling. She is one of the leaders of the International Forum on Globalization, (along with Jerry Mander, Edward Goldsmith, Ralph Nader, Jeremy Rifkin, et al.), and a figure of the global solidarity movement known as the alter-globalization movement. She has argued for the wisdom of many traditional practices, as is evident from her interview in the book Vedic Ecology (by Ranchor Prime) that draws upon India's Vedic heritage. - Wiki

POPSKailash Cave Temple In the 8th and 9th centuries CE, the Kailash Cave Temple was carved out of the volcanic rock which formed countless plateaus in the western ghats (small mountain range), part of the geological formation known as the Deccan Plateau. Part of a group of 34 caves built into the side of this plateau, Kailash, cave number 16, is monumental by any standards. The Kailash rock-cut temple stands 30 metres (99 feet) high, 52 metres (170 feet) in length, and 33 metres (108 feet) wide. The other 33 caves, Hindu, Buddhist, and Jain, were dug into the side of the plateau much like other cave dwellings, but Kailash appears to have been literally excavated from the top in order to create a free-standing temple encircled by smaller cave shrines, the entire complex carved out of the same black rock.

POPSTraditional Holi Hindu Beverage Made with Cannabis Some say cannabis is used to numb one out of reality. I say Western Society has a very poor understanding of enlightenment and how to achieve inner peace. Either way, there is a strong historical precedent towards cannabis as a pathway to enlightened thought, aka "spiritual ecstasy." sounds good to me.

POPS106 mpg "Air Car" Creates Buzz.. & questions
The concept is similar to how a locomotive works, except compressed air -- not steam -- moves the engine's pistons, said Shiva Vencat, vice president of MDI and CEO of Zero Pollution Motors. Gas still plays a role The six-seater planned for the U.S. market would be able to reach speeds of more than 90 mph and have a range of more than 800 miles thanks to a dual energy engine, Vencat said.. The design calls for one or more tanks of compressed air under the car's floor, as well as a tank holding at least 8 gallons of fuel. Whether the engine uses just air or both air and fuel would depend on how fast the car is going. It would run purely on compressed air at speeds less than 35 mph, Vencat said. Since the car could only go a short distance when using just air, fuel is needed to get the full range, he explained. "Above 35 mph, there is an external combustion system, which is basically a heater that uses a little bit of gasoline or biofuel or ethanol or vegetable oil that wil

POPSGlobalization And Its Fall Out It has helped some corporations increase their profits and markets, but many corporations like AOL/Time Warner and Enron whose non-sustainable growth was based on deregulation accompanying globalization have themselves either gone bankrupt or lost their value. Following the globalization path is proving to be a recipe for non-sustainability for the rich and impoverishment and destitution for the poor.

POPSIdolatry Today "We see that at the moment when man puts God aside, the temptations of idolatry are very great. At present we are in great danger of seeing God as almost superfluous. He is so far away, people say, and worshiping him doesn't seem to bring any results. We pay less attention to the fact that, if we pull away the main supports on which the framework of human life is constructed, then man will gradually disintegrate."

POPS Books On Alternative Medicine ABC News has an article today on "The Mystery Behind Alternative Cancer Treatment" .... a discussion on how cancer patients from Actress Farrah Fawcett and the late Coretta Scott King are now among the thousands of people who have turned to alternative approaches to cancer treatment when conventional medicine has failed. At the same time while browsing through an Indian book site (hat tip to analog and other stuff) I came across a section that he has dedicated to books on alternative medicine. Without hesitation, here is the list:
