    An Example of Incredible Mistrust

Just because creationists need to misrepresent to get people to accept their opinion, doesn't mean scientists need to. When will they get that science is not a religion?

    Thinking the way animals do
    pokkets
    by pokkets  12-25-2007    9
Temple Grandin Ph.D. is an assistant professor of animal behaviour at Colorado State Uni. She suffers from a form of autism, and describes the way she thinks as thinking in pictures. This has helped her understand the way Animals think, with direct association, rather than a logical process. A significant statement which can apply to most people, is the fact that originally as far as she was aware everybody thought the same way. Until she asked people and found this was not the case. She describes a radio station person who said she had no pictures, in her mind, but thought in terms of emotions or words. I'm sure I can understand my dogs. They seem to think in a manner that is simple, and straightforward, it can just be a matter of associating cues with behavior, and remembering Pavlov. I think in Pictures and sounds. There is music I can 'hear' in my mind that not only has the same 'quality' as the original, but there is a remarkable capacity to edit. Perhaps something like Auti

Can theists be educated? That is the question. In the US over 50% believe Creationism over evolution. No other industrialized country is this backward.

Creationism, the New Virus of Education
    AtlLiberal
    by AtlLiberal  11-14-2007    12
Look for new lies from Creationism/ID as it adapts to criticism and unveiling of its distortions and frauds. Make no mistake, these people at the Discovery Institute are ruthless in their quest to insinuate religion into the curriculum. They will use any method to accomplish this goal. These are not simply people gathered together to "give another perspective". They are organized to force their agenda to teach religious myths to our children. The last sentence of the clip is chilling considering High Priest Bush has used the same language. No one considers Bush to be versed in science, given his record. The dangerous part is that he does hold the power to cause real harm to education and that is a problem that will last long past his failed administration.

Religionists Rely on Faulty Logic and Lies
    AtlLiberal
    by AtlLiberal  11-14-2007    8
This propaganda from the NCR is a prime example of religion's use of misdirection coupled with failed logic to try to prove to their "customers" that their spiel is legitimate. It has worked for roughly 2,000 years so they stick with the old methods because they are successful. One difference today is that we no longer have to accept this ruse as being grounded in reality but see it for what it is. A naked attempt to dupe a gullible populace that is willing to be lulled into a false sense of childish dependency. The entire screed is brought to you because the NCR feels threatened by a movie! Two thousand years of history and they become unhinged because another piece of fiction challenges their piece of fiction. Of course the stakes are big. Make no mistake, the Church is big business and wants to protect its assets.

World "Nut" Daily - Usual Tripe
    AtlLiberal
    by AtlLiberal  11-13-2007    9
I literally laughed out loud after reading the above statement stating how D'Souza used "science" to refute Hitchens. The WND lives up to its reputation of dogma over intelligence by printing this drivel. The tired argument that D'Souza puts forth relies of the argument of improbability, the stock in trade of the ID/Creationist crowd. Although I expect some mouth breathers might find this so startlingly "scientific" cause it refers to numbers and other sciencey stuff that it'll go over big in the church pews. As far as people with even a rudimentary knowledge of science will discover that this is merely another pseudoscience attempt to refute evolution. It's been discredited in too many sources to list. But hey, it's the World Nut Daily. Enough said...

This clip refers directly with criticism of a global warming denier but, as PZ points out, is equally valid for Creationists. I think it could also apply to Fundamentalists who lack even a rudimentary understanding of science and the scientific method.

    One universe, under God
    seaj11
    by seaj11  10-4-2007    4
It's still so hard for me to believe that there are science teachers whose brains are so blown by the complexity of nature that they automatically ascribe it to God. It's completely illogical. And it's certainly not appropriate for this science teacher to divide scientists from religious people. They're not mutually exclusive, and putting it in terms of a choice for students strips them of the ability to look at it from a broader perspective. It's like a multiple choice test versus an essay assignment. Which encourages free thinking? The latter, of course. But do read the whole article. It's quite interesting.
