Just because creationists need to misrepresent to get people to accept their opinion, doesn't mean scientists need to. When will they get that science is not a religion?

The Evolution of Evolution: how culture changes genes
    abailart

Not, as stated, a new idea: been around a long time in complexity theory, and quantum consciousness theory, for instance. This is a short, pithy statement of the claim, read it in a couple of minutes.

Creationism, the New Virus of Education
    AtlLiberal
    by AtlLiberal  11-14-2007    12
Look for new lies from Creationism/ID as it adapts to criticism and unveiling of its distortions and frauds. Make no mistake, these people at the Discovery Institute are ruthless in their quest to insinuate religion into the curriculum. They will use any method to accomplish this goal. These are not simply people gathered together to "give another perspective". They are organized to force their agenda to teach religious myths to our children. The last sentence of the clip is chilling considering High Priest Bush has used the same language. No one considers Bush to be versed in science, given his record. The dangerous part is that he does hold the power to cause real harm to education and that is a problem that will last long past his failed administration.

World "Nut" Daily - Usual Tripe
    AtlLiberal
    by AtlLiberal  11-13-2007    9
I literally laughed out loud after reading the above statement stating how D'Souza used "science" to refute Hitchens. The WND lives up to its reputation of dogma over intelligence by printing this drivel. The tired argument that D'Souza puts forth relies of the argument of improbability, the stock in trade of the ID/Creationist crowd. Although I expect some mouth breathers might find this so startlingly "scientific" cause it refers to numbers and other sciencey stuff that it'll go over big in the church pews. As far as people with even a rudimentary knowledge of science will discover that this is merely another pseudoscience attempt to refute evolution. It's been discredited in too many sources to list. But hey, it's the World Nut Daily. Enough said...

This clip refers directly with criticism of a global warming denier but, as PZ points out, is equally valid for Creationists. I think it could also apply to Fundamentalists who lack even a rudimentary understanding of science and the scientific method.

Navigate to the website and watch the video if you've got the stomach for it. I found it to be revolting. If this isn't child abuse, I don't know what is. How could rational people be so ignorant? Religion is how!

    One universe, under God
    seaj11
    by seaj11  10-4-2007    4
It's still so hard for me to believe that there are science teachers whose brains are so blown by the complexity of nature that they automatically ascribe it to God. It's completely illogical. And it's certainly not appropriate for this science teacher to divide scientists from religious people. They're not mutually exclusive, and putting it in terms of a choice for students strips them of the ability to look at it from a broader perspective. It's like a multiple choice test versus an essay assignment. Which encourages free thinking? The latter, of course. But do read the whole article. It's quite interesting.
