AP: Food industry bitten by its lobbying success
schreibe
by schreibe  7-25-2008    4
I guess this is what is meant by less government is good government. This administration has been on the side of big business every step of the way, and this is only one of the paybacks that we the citizens have had to endure. I wonder how many more "slaps in the face" we have been unknowingly receiving through the fact that our President and the present administration, and now including the Supreme Court are on the side of BIG BUSINESS! I kinda think that the 28% interest rate on credit card loans, or the inability to declare bankruptcy, or the lack of adequate health care...etc. etc. etc., might just be a result of the successful lobbying of Big Business to help them with the only thing they are really concerned with.....and that my friends is their BOTTOM LINE! Deregulation has bitten us upon the ass on many fronts....this is just one of them!

I Remember Molly
schreibe

Molly Ivins died a few days ago. CPAN rebroadcast of her 1998 interview with Brian Lamb was excellent. One of her observations that is especially memorable is that politics is not really LEFT/ RIGHT..... its more like UP/Down.....its like whose on top, and whose on the bottom. I can't recall what she said exactly....you need to watch the video. I haven't tried it but you should be able to stream the video from the CSPAN site.

This "Breaking News" is Broke!
zasel
by zasel  2-2-2007    7
When the hell with the U.S. public finally grow-up? Are there no more important situations going on in the world that who sleeps with whom? I was absolutely livid as I was watching CNN's "The Situation Room" when Wolf Blitzer interrupted a discussion he was having with a political journalist to announce that Gavin Newsom has admitted to having an affair with his former campaign manager's wife. Newsom himself is divorced. These are all adults capable of working out their own problems. Why in God's name should the public give a damn about their personal marital problems? With Iraq boiling over into Iran, and the world collapsing around us, we shouldn't even be the slightest bit concerned in this kind of tabloid journalism. I have written to CNN about this, and I hope others might do the same.

Meet The Press...a love affair to remember!
schreibe
by schreibe  1-30-2007    1
What is so aggravating about the constant noise about the "Liberal Press", is that this administration has gotten its way with the press and it certainly has not been a "liberal" love affair. The press and media should have been doing its job instead of pandering to this administration. If it has done its job (ie Watergate), then we might not right now be trying to figure out how the hell to get out of Iraq, and stop the maiming and killing of our sons and daughters ,not to mention all the Iraqi civilians...and their sons and daughters. This mess has been a "pipe dream" of a few old neo-conservative men who basically wanted to relive Vietnam, and force a different outcome. Google Neoconservative, Google PNAC (Project For The New American Century} , and then think about whether or not this war was a war of choice and the same old story about old men, and war.

Bite your enemies to death....a special thrill!

Rush is in the act again! "The show's connection to the Bush White House and the conservative establishment became explicit last June, when Homeland Security Chief Michael Chertoff appeared alongside the show's producers and three cast members at an event sponsored by the Heritage Foundation to discuss "The public image of US terrorism policy." The discussion was moderated by Rush Limbaugh. The C-SPAN store sells a DVD of the event--price reduced from $60 to $29.95. Sunday night's two-hour premiere again argued not just that torture is necessary but that it works -- and it's also really exciting to watch. The show as usual made the "ticking time bomb" case for torture: we need to torture a suspect, or else thousands, or millions, will die in the next hour.

Protesting Clippers could face Prison or Fines.

Well it's too late for me I reckon, so I might as well just keep on keepin' on peacefully protesting. Now more than ever, it seems so necessary. This is another "I dare you" clip. Are they trying to scare, intimidate or threaten people to the point, that they just don't dare comment or clip or pop or blog or speak out anymore? Should I just cave in and "turn myself in" quarterly and bow down to oppression? I think not. I will not be silenced. If I ever stop clipping about all this, you'll know why. See ya in Guantanamo! - The White House's own recently de-classified strategy for "winning the war on terror" targets Internet conspiracy theories as a recruiting ground for terrorists and threatens to "diminish" their influence. - Chertoff pledged to dispatch Homeland Security agents to local police departments in order to aid in the apprehension of domestic terrorists who use the Internet as a political tool.
