POPSWhy I Believe Bush Must Go At 85 years old, I guess there is a need to tell the truth, and try to make this world a better place...... Thanks George!......McGovern that is!

POPSA Sobering Census Report: Americans’ Meager Income Gains more: The fortunes of middle-class, working Americans also appear less upbeat on closer consideration of the data. Indeed, earnings of men and women working full time actually fell more than 1 percent last year. This suggests that when household incomes rose, it was because more members of the household went to work, not because anybody got a bigger paycheck. The median income of working-age households, those headed by somebody younger than 65, remained more than 2 percent lower than in 2001, the year of the recession. Over all, the new data on incomes and poverty mesh consistently with the pattern of the last five years, in which the spoils of the nation’s economic growth have flowed almost exclusively to the wealthy and the extremely wealthy, leaving little for everybody else.

POPSSettlement in anti-Bush T-shirt case I always thought that the right to protest was not challenged in this country. I guess I was a little naive on this point. Amazing how you can just assume that you have rights in a free America......then, something comes along that makes you realize not to let your guard down, or you might find yourself in an America that you don't recognize anymore. Good thing we got the ACLU to counteract the bullies who want control over the masses....at any cost......including the degradation of the U.S. Constitution. Bush and the boys have been doing this sort of thing for the past seven years.

POPSBuilding a Coalition, Forgetting to Rule This administration was watching the polls very carefully. Not the polls of the majority of the people, but the polls of their base. They governed for the vote and to stay in power. They did not govern for the good of the people or of the nation.

POPSAmerica Loses Its Stature as Tallest Country Maybe if we thought more about our children's well-being than about wealth and power, we would grow up a little. The future and our future as a nation is our children. Neglect them and we ultimately do harm to our country. Were is the concern for them. I don't see it. Bush recently vetoed a bill that would have given our kids more health care. He vetoed it on "ideological" grounds......afraid that this bill might lead to some kind of socialized medicine, instead of the current "un-socialized" medicine,....I guess!

POPSThe NAFTA Superhighway When I first heard about this, I found it hard to believe....... looks like its true. Multinationals are our new country.... Kiss America goodby. Money talks....us patriots walk, or ride that super-duper-highway.

POPSYet again, the Democrats roll over
More: The Orwellian measure allows the federal government -- without a court order or oversight -- to intercept electronic communications between people in the U.S. and people outside the U.S. The old rule required that a special court give its approval for that kind of surveillance. The new law bypasses the court and empowers the director of national intelligence and the attorney general to authorize the surveillance. McConnell -- who is pushing for more spy power -- and Attorney General Alberto Gonzales -- who has huge credibility problems -- will decide on the targets. Both will also have charge of oversight of the program. Figure that! In recent weeks, administration officials have warned that the United States is under a heightened terrorist threat. Senate Democratic leader Harry Reid denounced the new legislation, saying it authorizes warrantless searches and surveillance of American phone calls, e-mails, homes, offices and personal records. POPSFear and Loathing in Middle America
More: Lucky for us, Bageant didn't hop on the next plane back west, and didn't chalk it all up to a terrible, misconstrued nostalgia. Instead, he stuck to his guns -- literally -- and tried to understand why people in his part of the country, people he genuinely loves despite his utter detestation of their politics, are so dyed-in-the-wool conservative that it'd take the Apocalypse to prize them away from supporting George W. Bush. "In the days before the spine of the labor movement was crushed, back when you could be a gun owner and a liberal without any conflict, members of the political left supported these workers, stood on the lines taking beatings at the plant gates alongside them," he argues. "Now there is practically no labor movement, and large numbers on the left are comfortably ensconced in the true middle class... From that vantage point, liberals currently view working whites as angry, warmongering bigots, happy pawns of the American empire -- which begs the questions

POPSAn Immoral Philosophy
More: It must be about philosophy, because it surely isn't about cost. One of the plans Mr. Bush opposes, the one approved by an overwhelming bipartisan majority in the Senate Finance Committee, would cost less over the next five years than we'll spend in Iraq in the next four months. And it would be fully paid for by an increase in tobacco taxes. So what kind of philosophy says that it's O.K. to subsidize insurance companies, but not to provide health care to children? So his philosophy says that the government must be prevented from solving problems, even if it can. In fact, the more good a proposed government program would do, the more fiercely it must be opposed. denying basic health care to children whose parents lack the means to pay for it, simply because you're afraid that success in insuring children might put big government in a good light, is just morally wrong. it seems, more basic decency in the hearts of Americans than is dreamt of in Mr. Bush's philosophy.

POPSA War Best Served Cold The essence of this discussion is the proper use of diplomacy, and intelligent strategy. Staying by our principles and not adding to the ranks of our enemy is a pretty good idea. Butter not bombs's sometimes a smart way to fight the fight.

POPSCredit Card Buyer Beware Amazing how some people don't understand that one very good, and much needed job of the government is to establish laws that protect us from this sort of greedy corporate practice. Too many people just keep repeating that same old Reagan quote.....the best government is a small government, or something like that..... as if all these corporate entities are going to do what is best for us. They think that when it comes to money, the banks are going to do something that will lessen their profits. How stupid!

POPSGonzales Helped Bush Hide His Drunk Driving Conviction Gonzales and Bush have quite a history together. Is there anyone out there who could have survived a drunk driving charge and go on to be President of the United States of America. Bush didn't stop drinking until he was 40 years old. It was not just a youth oriented mis-conduct event!

POPSGonzales is telling the thruth! HA HA .... fooled you!..... click on the link for the entire "clarification" by the NYTimes of the debacle at our number one law enforcement agency! What a joke! The joke is on us! This President, and his buddy Gonzales could care less about the rule of law, and hence about this country! It is disgusting how they continue to get away with this stuff.

POPSHow to beat Iraq's insurgents? Ask the British. More: Bound by intense regimental loyalties, they've seemed steadier, more experienced, and more approachable than their US counterparts. Whenever possible, they've dispensed with their Warrior armored vehicles and traveled light and on foot. US troops, by contrast, can appear sinister in helmets, dark glasses, and body armor. Forever watching their backs, they can often seem brash and trigger-happy. Indeed, in their Humvees, Bradleys, and Strykers, guns trained on likely targets, they've become the occupying army they desperately didn't want to be. While the British focus on winning Iraqi hearts and minds, US troops, imbued with a fierce warrior ethic, have been more reluctant to take up the task.

POPSFive Ways Bush's Era of Repression Has Stolen Your Liberties Since 9/11
More: The government can hold you in preventive detention for months on end as a "material witness." If you're not a citizen the government can deport you on a technicality or for mere political association. If you're not a citizen the government can label you an "enemy combatant" and send you to secret prisons around the world, where you may never see the light of day again -- much less a lawyer or a judge. And even if you are a citizen, the government can label you an enemy combatant and hold you in solitary confinement here in the United States. Under George W. Bush's interpretation of the president's powers during the so-called war on terror he can do just about whatever he wants. He cites the Authorization for Use of Military Force bill, which Congress passed on September 18, 2001, as the justification for this enormous leeway. "Congress gave me the authority to use necessary force to protect the American people, but it didn't prescribe the tactics,"Bush said in a s

POPSWait, There Actually Is a Bridge in Brooklyn You Can Sell Me? The common good is flying out the window in this new world of privatization. POPSUnchecked and Unbalanced From the book review: "George W. Bush "commuted" Scooter Libby's conviction to keep himself and Cheney from being impeached and possibly imprisoned. If Congress continues to avoid holding authoritarian, law-breaking, monarchal Republicans accountable, our Constitution and existence as a democracy may pass the point of no return. It may have passed that point already."
