What struck me as the best commentary on the Bosnia story came from a poster called GI Joe ... : "Actually Mrs. Clinton was too modest. I was there and saw it all. She found that he had suffered terribly as a result of policies of George Bush. She defused the bomb vest herself." Then she turned to his wounds. "She stopped my bleeding and saved my life. Chelsea donated the blood." It was like the voice of the people answering back. This guy knows that what Mrs. Clinton said is sort of crazy. He seems to know her reputation for untruths. He seemed to be saying, "I get it."[/quot

POPSVeterans’ Groups Pushs For More Predictable VA Funding “It is a lot cheaper to provide veteran care through the VA than it is to provide it by Medicare or Medicaid,” said Violante. “If we put the resources into the VA it would certainly be fiscally responsible.” Congress now appropriates VA medical care funds on an annual basis. Political squabbling has delayed VA funding in 13 of the past 14 years — something that has severely hampered the department’s ability to plan and manage its healthcare system, according to DAV’s talking points. Veterans’ groups say the change would ensure the agency can better handle the growing number of veterans dependent on it for medical care. An added benefit would be that advance appropriations would not fall under pay-as-you-go budgetary rules, which do cover mandatory funding. This means the advance appropriations would not have to be offset by spending cuts or revenue raisers, requirements that make it harder to move legislation.

POPS US superhero GI Joe gets image makeover While the character has traditionally battled America's neo-Nazi enemies, Cobra, the evil terrorist organisation, will now be an arms-dealing syndicate headed by a Scot. Critics of the project have been following the film's development with growing dismay. Some have suggested that the producers may as well have put a blue United Nations peacekeeper's helmet on its star's crewcut head. Under pressure, Paramount appears to have substituted Brussels for New York, but hasn't otherwise budged from its stance that naked displays of American military muscle will no longer play well at the international box office. The film, which has yet to be cast, is not due to open until 2009. Hasbro, whose GI Joe action figures were the precursor of Britain's Action Man, toned down the figure's army credentials after the Vietnam War but sales soared again amid the patriotic fervour of the first Gulf War.
