POPSYahoo and freedom of speech in China An interesting story, which can lead to unpleasant outcome to Yahoo, and later to companies like Google. Indeed whoever work in China needs to comply with Chinese law, but Yahoo/Google and such are not just regular companies, they all know too much about us, and are successful because we give the information willingly, it gives them also responsibility, morally if not legal. Also "Internet rights" for users should be global.

POPSThe future of media at home Very good article, summarizing the two main obstacles, which are not the actual technology. Its the issue of copyright, no real device or solution will evolve before the issue of sharing content is resolved, and the other aspect is ease of use. I have PC behind my TV, I need all the time to transcode, the ultimate end user is the layman user, who just want to push the button, or scroll simple menus.

POPSA new venture for TV Is it new Hype? I wish not. The issue with TV is the fact that the real attractive content has IPR, and will never find itself to be freely available on the Internet. Ad revenue is not a proven method to finance the opertaion.

POPSSkype cool add-on A cool add-on, you can connect your Skype contacts or call any number, using your Skype, from your mobile phone or Web. It might be the solution for VOIP on mobile, as Skype and similar services found out that mobile devices and pocket PC, can hardly run VOIP clients efficiently

POPSSune's wirelss feature is actually worthless And I was planning to buy one. Why did they add wireless connectivity at first place? It looked so attractive, and better than IPOD, till it was clear it has no added value at all. They shoot their on foot

POPSRe-license Apple DRM - cool story The guy that hacked Apple DRM on ITUNE will offer it licensed to IPOD, threatening to eliminate the ITUNE. Will apple object or sue, as they obviously have patent on their DRM.

POPSCreate your own mashup maps I am sure I saw posts about this service, but I started using it only today, and I created easily mashup maps from my locations in Tagzania, Yahoo weather, reuter news, and tracks on triptracker. It is amzing, and the concept of georss feed is promising.

POPS3D desktop I am not sure its the new 'thing', I think we are limited as people in the way we can predict the future or other worlds, and that is why robots in movies look like human beings, we can't imagine anything else. But look at computers, how do we input data, mouse and keyboard, how much did it change during recent years? Where is the revolution there? What do you think will be the input methods of tomorrow?

POPSTorrent and RSS I do not encourage downloading and sharing copyright media, but this tool can be sued for legitimate stuff as well. I like the combination of RSS feeds and Torrent, which gains popularity on the web, for sharing legitimate content, and there is such concept of share and legitimate. You can tune the tool to video podcast which support torrent, and you will get the episodes to your computer when it is published. If then you tune Orb (me previous posting) to the download folder of Ted, you can watch later your downloaded episodes from every machine on the Web.

POPSThe importance of socialnetwork to its owner Interesting reading, I also read about complex network, and they claim we have today so much data, we can gather, we will never be abale to analyze properly Also funny, as from user point of view, I also feel that social networking still do not bring real benefit to a lot of people. I know about teens in Myspace and Myspace like, I also active in some, including here, but it is all at stage of experiment, before the real fight start. Will be interesting to watch in few years time, no wonder we will be all surprised

POPSGoogle released new version of Picasa with Web album and geotagging Google released new version (Beta) of Picasa to manage desktop pics, and features like upload to web album, share and geotag on Google Earth. Honestly,I start feeling uncomfortable with Google pushing so many new services, not compatible with what we already have and use. Flickr is very popular, so many pictures are geotagged there, why would I drop it and start uploading to Google? Would it not be great if the two services are integrated, but of course they compete (Goolge & Yahoo), so do we as users gain or lose? I used 30box as calendar, I enjoyed it, Google published their calendar, it looked promising, so I moved, and it seems they published the service just to stop all competitors. Starting to sounds like our good friend Microsoft

POPSPanoramio - great free service Greta new service. Upload your pictures and share by locating it on a map. Example http://www.panoramio.com/map/#lt=39.928889&ln=116.388333&z=5&k=2&a=1 It becomes more more exciting when looking at the results form Google earth, just add new network link and use this URL http://www.panoramio.com/panoramio.kml Now, when you enable it (check it), wherever you have your view point, you see pictures, which people uploaded and linked to that specific location I do not think it repayment for Flickr, its different service, and its nice. Also I see they have ads by Google, so everyone is happy, we get free service and they get their share, that is how it needs to be.

POPSThe theory of the long tail
Interesting article which explains the concept of the long tail. For me as for others, its obvious and relates to every daylife, actually even us here at clipmarks are part of this reality. I read stuff and comment on what others say, but these people are distributed around the globe, and if I look at my immediate surrounding, friends and family, only few if at all are interested in same stuff like me, so although the long tail theory relates directly to distribution and marketing, I think it relates also to more aspects of our life, even if only as analogy. One more comment, as the theory is for real, content from the glob find itself to us, and distribution channels are created all the time, there is demand and there is supply, but its not the case (not for the short term at least) for video, where the content provider guard it, and will prevent its distribution in alternative channles, as long as they can, but even if they will let go, the distribution lines are not there,
