Sibling bonds in adoption: How important are they?
    ronhuxley
    by ronhuxley  11-16-2009
One of the most important and toughest issues in adoptive parenting is the sibling connection. Social workers have a huge responsibility to find adoptive home that will take siblings, especially if there are several children in a family unit. Adoptive parents struggle with maintaining an open relationship with adoptive children who are not in the home and with birth family member relationships. Adoptive children question why they were picked for adoption and their sibling(s) were not. Have you adopted siblings? Share your story by tweeting us or commenting below. The article states that in an equally stable home, single parent families were no different than married, two-parent families, when it came to the emotional wellness of the children. That should be good news for single parents. It is also challenging news because it is harder for single parents to find a stable balance. Many of the single parent families I have worked with struggle with finances, quality child care and emotional support. Just do the math: One parent is stretched much farther than two. What the study didn't mention was how many children were in each type of home. One child is much easier to manage, for a single parent or two-parent home, than several! So my sadness comes from the fact that the article/study didn't offer more suggestions on how single parent families need ongoin
