POPSDid you have a controlling mother? If you did, two new studies show that this lowers one ability to be empathic to others. I know, I know, blame it all on the mom's right? Well to be fair, I assume this research would point blame at dad's too. The underlying issue is that empathy can be taught to children. More specifically, it can be modeled. Parents that show a high degree of responsiveness have children with higher levels of concern for others. What has been your experience with your parents or your parenting? No one grieves in the same way at the same speed or arrives at the same end destination (if there is one). This is why "a journey" is so useful when understanding our losses. What metaphors do you use to manage the losses in life? What general metaphors do you live by? Comment or tweet us a reply @thirstyfishinfo
